  1. I didn't compare them to other teams at all.....I clearly stated which MLB players they have to show for their international signings. I don't know if it is better or worse, and I never made any statement in this thread about that at all.
  2. I knew that, but I think he was a FA, i was trying to give them credit ......
  3. The agreement doesn't say you can't do it......it clearly states you can do it, but then you can't sign more players for 2 years. That was the agreement. There is nothing unethical about doing what the agreement allows, is there? "You can go over, but if you do, then you can't sign expensive players for 2 years" .........that is very different than, "you can't go over, if you do, you are breaking the rules". Either way, they have almost nothing to show for their international work other than Sano, Polanco, and Kepler (all signed the one year they spent big) and Vargas and Danny Santana.
  4. So, everything going wrong.......you actually believe, since the odds of that are so small that they are hard to calculate....you think bad luck had nothing to do with that? I'm struggling why this is even debatable, frankly. Even a terrible plan can have some good outcomes.....this has had almost none.
  5. I hate the blackout rules....and I really hate them when they are stupid bad, like Iowa and blacking out an opposing feed when the game isn't shown locally. I am amazed there are any young baseball fans at all, given how hard they make the product to see.
  6. I am prepared to be disappointed, frankly. They've done pretty much nothing the way the Astros or Cubs have in the last few years, and appear to be on the Pittsburgh/KC approaches instead. I expect that to continue.
  7. Patience and trust seem to be sorely lacking in this management, yes.
  8. Easiest way to attract fans and keep them interested.....don't make your product available!
  9. at 22? he's supposed to be emotionally mature? But yes, some of the blame goes to the players, is anyone saying it doesn't?
  10. How does "everything has gone wrong" differ from "there has been totally bad luck", other than semantics?
  11. I agree with Seth that almost everything has gone wrong. I disagree with Seth* in that I feel some of this was self-inflicted, and it isn't bad luck. Murphy was a buy low, low risk low reward move. Once again, they went small. Park? They have admitted (Molitor) that they didn't expect to win the bid, and it is clear they didn't know what to do when they did. Sano had NEVER played the OF in the minors (though some here had suggested he do that, in case they wanted to keep Plouffe.....like, 2 years ago). Poor planning, imo. Relying on Perkins? After this many years of injuries? Bad idea. Saying the bullpen was the number 1 spot to address, then doing what they did? Uh, that wasn't bad luck, that was predicted to be bad by nearly everyone here. *assuming that is what he is saying
  12. Actually working today.....not that this post is evidence of that....
  13. Except he has that money....and I'd want to golf in my 50s.......I agree on guys that don't have that money (sort of), but I think, like most of us, they don't think about the long term consequences and impact on their happiness/health enough.
  14. Dave Cameron of FG just put his up.....he thanked Dozier for getting hot so it didn't have to be Nunez....I know some don't like the mild snark on that site, but it cracks me up.
  15. Agree with this. And, I'll add, I am always amazed when a guy this age comes back from this kind of thing. Hoping he turns out to be able to use his arm fully in the many coming years....
  16. heh, totally different discussion.....but I can't argue with any of this.
  17. Well, I tweeted David Cameron (no, the other one, the one that still has a job), we'll see what he says, if anything useful....
  18. Great post...... I agree, there would be a TON of noise in looking at individual games. What about a simulation where every player hits .280, on a consistent basis, game over game, vs a series of simulations where every player hits .280, but one month it is 240, and the other month it is 320? You'd need to run thousands of simulations to account for some times when all the players hit well the same month, vs not........ to me, I'm just curious if consistent performance, game after game, is more or less valuable than a series of games where a player is o fer vs 2-4 fer.....
  19. I've tried to find a study on this......is it better to have guys hit 1 for 4 every game.....or 2 games with three hits and 4 games with no hits (or something like that)? Which one leads to more wins over 162 games? I can't find one, but I'll ask on a FG chat or tweet one of them, and see....
  20. Right, if this was new, I would not be worried, but it reminds me too much of the last two years to feel like it is an aberration. I used to love watching mauer hit, now it makes me sad to recall what he was.
  21. I love reading these reports every day, thanks everyone. I also love reading that Berrios has pitched well again!
  22. The one year I coached t ball..... My youngest would run in from right field and field grounders hit too third.
  23. Thanks, it is great to get these scouting views, since none of us get to see them live. Appreciate it.
  24. I think the Twins win tonight. By a lot.
