  1. This comment reminds me of when everyone always gushed about the numbers Delmon Young put up, for his age, in the minors. Yes, he may have been 20 or 21 when putting up monster numbers, but for his body, he was probably closer to 25. Most players reach their physical peak around 27, but it's clear Delmon's physical peak was probably 4 or 5 years early. That's not to say Greene will be like Young in any regard, but yeah he's developmentally advanced for his age. We wouldn't be talking about him if he wasn't.
  2. I really like them on Dodger blue and Texas Rangers red, but not so much on the Sox helmets for some reason.
  3. They can play them in a pinch, but that's not really the same as carrying an actual backup CF. But that's a luxury you can't afford when you carry 18 pitchers or whatever we have.
  4. Something about that redhead chick on the ExxonMobil commercials... I think she has a very dark soul. #commercialthoughts
  5. I don't know about that. His average is effectively zero, Mauer is a near .300 career hitter. Go for the runs, hope you don't need another greate play in CF. Also, it wouldn't hurt to actually carry a 4th OF on this team who could play CF.
  6. That... was a <expletive'n> curveball.
  7. Yeah leaving Sano in at 1B, not pinch hitting for Buxton with two runners in scoring position... it's almost like Moliter isn't paying attention.
  8. Nice play Eddie! That's a big start to a late inning in a close game.
  9. They can trade us Nate Jones if they want to keep rebuilding.
  10. I remember that, I only wonder if he's reciting Playboy Playmate profiles when he does it.
  11. Gawd, the ChiSox catcher is good entertainment. Between falling down everytime he throws back to the pitcher and nearly going down on that last backswing... good stuff.
  12. I thought that commercial about confidence might be about ED, but nope cars! Thankfully they followed with a boner commercial. Was starting to feel cheated.
  13. Geesus, you were saying Bert? Someone give this guy a clue at the plate!
  14. We'd better see Mauer for Buxton if there's runners on and less than 2 outs.
  15. Pretty sure Hughes called him out there last inning to tell him to stop treating him like a rook. "I know breaking balls should be down, you don't have to drag the signs in the dirt."
  16. Hughes is really pitching well tonight. Not overpowering stuff, but he is hitting spots and mixing it up! I like it! Doesn't hurt to have Buxton to bail you out on some long outs too - those were huge!
  17. Admittedly, I love playing the what-if-we'd-drafted-X game, but this is not a case where there's much blame for the Twins. We NEEDED pitching, preferably high-upside college pitching in the 2015 draft. People say they always take the best available player, but given our young OF logjam there was no way we were passing on the best lefty reliever in college who could reach 98 mph. Jay hasn't shown enough in the minors to be in the conversation with the best relievers in the major leagues, but that is not to say he might not get there. We'll have to see, these things are impossible to predict. But even that misses the larger point about constructing bullpens. Most bullpens feature several resurrection projects. Guys who started and failed, or just plain failed but were able to bounce back and find success in the bullpen. We need a plan for developing young pitchers, but we also should have a plan for resurrecting potential diamonds in the rough. The things that Craig Breslow did to reinvent himself are technically impressive. Why not employ those tactics as an organization with other pitchers? Could it be a selling point for attracting minor league FA's or 1-year prove-it type players?
  18. This is fantastic. Interesting about the sleeve that measures elbow stress, hadn't heard about that before.
  19. Great job on these write ups, I really enjoyed them. I'm sold on Romero being #1... sounds fantastic. I hope they aren't too patient with him. No sense overworking him this year, but he needs to face challenging competition in order to become the best he can be. So if he's dealing, promote him.
  20. The Twins have not been a good team for many years now, which finally resulted in a front office change this year signaling a new direction. I am convinced that one of the primary contributing factors to the Twins futility is their lack of STRATEGIC preparation and review. I hardly ever recall a player or coaching saying something to the effect of "well, we know Sale likes to throw back door sliders when he's behind in the count so I was sitting on that" or "we went back to the video and figured out I needed to be closer to the plate." Ironically, that last one applies to a situation with Chris Colabello where it took a phone call from a heartsick Rod Carew to tell him to move closer to the plate after a several-week long disasterous stretch of play. After he made the adjustment, he was one of the hottest hitters in the league for a month or so. Why did that advice have to come from a 70-something year old watching a game from 2,000 miles away? After the last couple seasons this organization should be poring over every minute of video, every mistake and every success and creating a customized plan for how to address it. Every team/player/coach should do that, but I always got the feeling that the Twins players and coaches were content to leave the losses in the past. Well, if you don't learn from the past, you're doomed to repeat it. I hope the team is doing this in a cohesive manner. I hope the new execs were hired because they have a specific plan for turning this team around, meaning specific fixes/tweaks for players and a specific strategy for addressing flaws/mistakes. I hope Molitor and his staff have some answers after reviewing the tape from last year. But I don't get that sense. It seems as though players and coaches are doing the same things they did before. I hope I'm wrong, maybe it's just not being reported (in which case, can we please get into some specifics about what is being done to right the many wrongs). Anybody else see it this way? Sorry to start a new thread, but this is a great place to discuss why this is/isn't true - AND to store examples of the team preparing/reviewing or not. In doing so, we can create a true record of accountability as opposed to being disappointed yet baffled by results... (crap we lost, well tomorrow is a new day, I don't know why player X isn't performing, he did well before)
