  1. I think it's wrong to say nothing has been done. For starters, the Twins hired a new GM and director of baseball Falvey has done the obvious things: replaced Suzuki, dumped Centeno and Plouffe like dirty dishrags (however you feel about how that was handled), and replaced the hitting coach, which also needed to be done IMO. Also they brought Torii Hunter back into the fold and whatever magic he possesses. I'd be disappointed if a few other smaller moves aren't done before the season, but overall I am fine. It would be harder to see a bad trade. Guys like Gibson or May traded for cents on the dollar and have success elsewhere, before Falvey could give them some new ideas on how to improve. I also predict Ervin Santana will have some suitors as the trade deadline approaches.

  3. True, but we have a good idea of who was *not* on the table. The big guys. None of them were on the table. Berardino even reported that Stewart was not on the table in any offer involving De Leon.
  4. The Rays would have probably taken De Leon for Forsythe on Day 1, leads me to believe the Dodgers were dealing exclusively with the Twins and waiting for us to blink and finally realized we weren't going to blink.
  5. I really liked Yordano Ventura. He made MLB better and fun to watch. I often think of the song "Shooting Star" by Bad Company after things like this. Hoping his loved ones find peace!
  6. Member note: Moderators please take the Mauer conversation to an appropriate thread
  7. I'm just looking at his stats, though I'm sure you are watching him in person at least a little bit, so I will defer to you. I have not watched as much as a highlight yet. He was charged with one error last season. (yah, yah, don't go by errors... ) but one error for a full season is a pretty low total for an outfielder. What did the scorers miss? How are his throws? What does Granite do so poorly that he is *at best* average in the field? What does he do well? Thanks!
  8. You put a lot of work into this. Thank you. Seems to me too that Granite should be higher. He just logged a pretty solid season at AA, in fact his best pro season. Revere's better minor league seasons were before AA, though Revere's worst offensive season is still as good as Granite's best season. Is there any reason or measures available to think Granite won't continue to improve, however? I also like how Granite sees himself as a base stealer, whereas a guy like Buxton doesn't see himself as a base stealer, just an incredibly fast guy who might try to steal bases. The rough rule of thumb is to be successful at a 75% rate, and Granite now appears able to do that. We will find out soon how much Falvey & Co. value the stolen base. If they do value steals, maybe we see Granite in MLB for a cup of coffee sooner rather than later?
  9. I will guess the Twins have even backed off that. I am hoping/guessing there is a De Leon and Stewart offer the Dodgers will eventually accept. Maybe the Dodgers would be interested in a Duffey or Rogers in a trade like that in exchange for adding Calhoun (not likely) or Mitch White. However I could understand if the Twins don't want to part with any arms before they get a look at them, no matter how mediocre they seem.
  10. Again, though, neither does DeLeon + Sheffield or other throwins. DeLeon with a guy like Stripling is close, but still no thanks. I do agree with you the Dodgers have the advantage, but I think their system is too deep and they are being too stingy with a De Leo and Stewart offer. That might get it done.
  11. It's really warm in Minnesota this week, the snow is melting, it feels like spring, and I am also on board the Twins happy train
  12. Well I looked at that 13 game losing streak in August which I think you are talking about, and those starting lineups included Plouffe at 1B (Mauer soreness), Escobar at 3B (Sano elbow), Suzuki and Centeno splitting catching duties about 50/50, and a (un)healthy dose of Grossman and Santana in the outfield. In fact in four of those games, Grossman and Santana both started in the outfield in the same game. So, no, not 'nearly identical' to what we will see Opening Day in 2017.
  13. I have to disagree with this. Sano's errors are certainly of the "in-your-face" variety, but Plouffe's weak fielding was much more subtle and easy to miss. He has no range anymore. Fangraphs was not kind to Plouffe last season. Plouffe has better hands than Sano I will give you that, but that's not the whole story.
  14. I am freely looking, as opposed to a pay site. But help me out. The last two months we had Plouffe and Sano splitting time (I think Sano is better), then Molitor had either Grossman or Santana still starting in the outfield almost every game, and according to Fangraphs, Castro was a much better catcher last season than Suzuki. What do you see that I don't?
  15. In contrast to last season's opener, no more than 4 or 5 of the same 8 players will be taking the field in this year's opener. What is your definition of nearly identical?
  16. Perfectly valid answer. It's not my answer, but it's fair
  17. So then I will pose a similar question to some of you: How deep into the season will the Twins maintain a .500 record? (i.e., roughly an 80-win pace)?
  18. I agree Calhoun has value. But beyond Bellinger we just haven't heard much about guys like Calhoun or Verdugo, suggesting the Twins aren't interested perhaps.
  19. I don't know what the Twins think of Calhoun, but if the Twins are not high on him, they shouldn't feel obliged to accept him as the second piece just because the Dodgers tell us he is the next best available piece they will offer us. I feel the Twins are right to hold out for pitching.
  20. Dozier for De Leon and Stewart Dozier for De Leon and Calhoun Dozier for De Leon and Sheffield These strike me as three different offers. As far as Dozier for De Leon and Stewart, I am inferring from Berardino's report on the 11th that the Dodgers would not offer Stewart in a deal with De Leon, so saying "the Twins should take that" is besides the point. Dozier for De Leon and Calhoun is something, but the Twins aren't really shopping for a guy like Calhoun any more than the Dodgers are asking the Twins to kick in an outfield or third base prospect. They only want Dozier. Dozier for De Leon and Sheffield is surely something the Dodgers would agree to, and I'm glad the Twins do not consider that an acceptable offer.
  21. However I have really taken to your idea of rebooting Gibson without his sinker. I'd make him a slider/fastball guy with a couple change ups per night thrown in for good measure.
  22. I'm all for Garver getting decent playing time in MLB this season.
  23. According to Dave's tweet, it seems that the Dodgers pinged the Twins today. So if true, my best uninformed guess is that the Dodgers either capitulated and met a Twins offer and news will break this evening, or forget it because the Dodgers contacted the Twins about something unrelated to Dozier. The Twins were pretty clear that they're not negotiating this right now. Does that sound about right?
