  1. Yes that is strange. I recall a couple of 174 game seasons, but those ended rather well Maybe that writer had Games behind first place in his head. There have probably been some seasons where we finished with a better Win% but further back out of first.
  2. So the good news is, turns out Klobuchar is indeed barnstorming rural Minnesota as we speak. Good to see. Keep it up.
  3. How did we get to a point in national politics where the only good measure of a Republican candidate is how much they piss off liberals? Does anyone disagree that that's where we are at? Anyway, not trying to make this personal, so I will back off for a bit. I'd like to see the discussion continue though.
  4. of course it's a caricature but all it takes is one slip ("deplorables") and Democrats are back to square one. Democrats and Republicans are held to different standards. I don't know how we got here, but here we are. If Democrats commit themselves to working their butts off and offering solutions they will win voters back. If now is not an opportunity to do this, there never will be one.
  5. I don't recall saying Democrats don't hold town halls or attend parades.
  6. Sorry to temporarily hijack the thread, but I think it's important. Yeah I will admit there's a little bit of emotion speaking. However, I am still waiting to see a sustained effort by Democrats to go talk with their constituents and take action. That is the only way I feel "our side" will get anything meaningful done or re-earn anyone's respect. Should I hold my breath? That is what I am wondering.
  7. Agree completely, though I attribute it more to snobbery that vitriol. If your concerns have never been smugly dismissed by a Democratic officeholder*, you are truly missing out on a life changing experience. *not all Democrats Also, being portrayed for years by Republicans as weak and pretentious, without fighting back against that, has made their task even more difficult.
  8. Tell us what the video is - pay it forward
  9. I'm just spitballing. And there's no campaign right now, so no better time. I bet someone like Klobuchar has a ton of personal goodwill banked with the other side. Time to start spending it down. Actually the time was the last four years. Seeing that Klobuchar went on a Sunday show and called Trump a bad president does nothing for me. Seeing Warren being censored by Republicans trying to read a letter doesn't tell me anything I don't already know about Warren or Republicans.
  10. That's pretty damning stuff. Park seems like a great guy but it's no wonder no other team wanted anything to do with him. If the wrist injury was related to trying to adjust to high velocity fastballs, then I think Park is pretty much done in MLB, unfortunately. If not, time is not on his side in learning to hit that thing. If there are more fireballers in AA than AAA, he might even have to be sent there. Dunno. He also had that bad practice of backing into the basepath to catch tough hops, instead of stretching forward.
  11. Signing any of those guys is lighting a pile of money on fire.
  12. I don't think Buxton steals 30, but I think he hits for a higher average and scores a lot of runs.
  13. I have 101 reasons to vote against Republicans, but give me one good reason to vote for a Democrat. The recent Warren thing was nice, but I'd like to start seeing her with one of her colleagues out in rural America, talking to voters. Let the alt-media do all the grandstanding against him.
  14. Usually the IBB is part of a strategic moment in the game, so I don't mind the extra bit of time to run through game possibilities. Also, not all IBB come at the start of the plate appearance. How about instead of 0 or 4, the pitcher throws one pitch to signal the walk?
  15. It was good, nothing blows your theory apart. The closest thing would be the Twins announcement that they believe in Sano at third. For the record I do, too. Sano could just as likely get better as get worse. Plouffe was terrible his first season there. First base for Sano would be learning a new position again, and it took Mauer more than a full season to play it adequately. Mauer is very good there at first now. But do the Twins have a plan B at third? Not that I can see. This particular season I think there are more important issues to address than having a plan B at third when they can just plug Polanco or Escobar there.
  16. I don't care enough anymore to look into it but that is absolutely ****ing brutal, not to mention pointless, counterproductive, near certain political death, etc. I'm wondering if this was misreporting, or he would have revised or explained it, or whatever.
  17. I'm not sure what Clinton's message was...."everyone better together" or something like that. A message like that is not going to get it done. Or as Bush senior might say: "naat gaana doit" I don't know what actual proposals Sanders was planning for taxes but I doubt "tax the middle class!" was among them. If for some unknown reason it was, I agree he get crushed.
  18. I think you got it backwards. It's the Sanders voters who flipped for Trump (yes they exist), not Trump voters who might have reluctantly settled for Sanders, though that too. Sanders had the better economic message. Clinton not only didn't have a message, it wouldn't have been heard if she did due to people's irrational feelings against her. Lots of people despised Trump but voted for him anyway. Trump by far has the worse character issues - sexual predator, bankruptcies, life of luxury while stiffing workers, anti-veteran, sexual predator, did I mention sexual predator? Actually, if Sanders once chanted "die Yankee" it might have picked him up a southern state or two.
  19. I agree with your second paragraph. The last paragraph is just opinion and guessing, and in my opinion and guessing I disagree strongly.
  20. Another choice quote from his article: "A certain kind of liberal makes me sick." Here's an immensely talented guy who took the election as hard as anyone, apparently. He simply has the platform to be widely read. Of course he is going to paint Sanders in the worst possible light in such an article so close after the election.
  21. I agree he has the credentials. I read two of his big books. But consider the first sentence in that article: "On Friday, I almost assaulted a fan of my work." He was nakedly bitter about the election and did not hide it. I can't take that article seriously. Sure, that opposition research against Sanders would have come out, but I think you are overestimating the impact it would have had, especially coming from someone who actually, you know, assaults women, and proudly. Unfortunately Clinton was the worst possible candidate and having her in the race shut off the discussion for many, many people.
  22. Spent some time out in the sticks this holiday season. People had had it with Clinton. The very mention of the word "Clinton" would have ended all conversation and forced you to get up and get your own dessert (gladly I didn't test the theory). The race was decided back when she announced her candidacy, whenever that was. And yet she still almost won. At least people wouldn't have known who Sanders was. Any smears thrown at him would have sounded like politics and he would have been able to respond anyway. He wouldn't have been able to run up the popular vote but he also wouldn't have sent countless thousands automatically to the other candidate by mere mention of his existence. Considering where the race was lost who turned out, I think it more likely than not that Sanders would have beaten Trump. Anyway, that's just my point of view. Others surely have seen it from their own POV whether it was similar or different.
  23. I think I know what article you are referring to, and you sure are putting a lot of faith in it. It was an extremely raw and bitter article blasting Sanders and liberals in general for losing Clinton's election. Send me a link to this oppo research and I will look at it and consider whether or not to concede a point to you.
  24. Did that. What's the next step in your process?
