  1. Yes I think that. They got a lot of prospects but there were hidden costs.
  2. Pitchers have been batting this whole series. Let Hader strike out and come out to pitch the sixth. That's what I expected to happen. ..Or another way to do it is give the 3-5 innings to Woodruff, who is better with the bat, in case the pitcher spot comes up.
  3. You say you would have left Hader in -- it was the inning after Hader was taken out that Puig took Jeffress deep. So maybe Hader stays in another inning and the score stays 2-1. That is hardly "would not have mattered."
  4. Yes, trusting Jeffress in that spot. I wouldn’t call pitching a scoreless inning with a 3-run lead “coming through” considering his disastrous post-season, but fine. Then having Hader already in and out of the game by the end of the fifth inning is regrettable, if you ask me.
  5. ... Well it was fun bantering with you about this ...
  6. Have you been watching the series? Help me understand.
  7. inexplicable pitching change decisions Maybe Counsell will be interviewing for the Twins manager opening tomorrow Hosken out
  8. Game 7 NLCS Circus Boy update: Dodgers 2-1, end 5th Highlights: Dodgers 2nd baseman Taylor just made an outstanding catch in left field to rob the Brewers of a run; In the 1st, Machado bunts for a hit on 3-2 count, followed by Bellinger HR; Hader pitches 3rd to 5th innings, removed for pinch hitter in bottoms of fifth. I guess I’m on the record saying Hader should have had the opportunity to pitch a couple more innings (prep post) Not an instant classic, but a pretty good game so far.
  9. My guess: Hader pitches till his arm fall off tonight
  10. Interesting call already in the bottom 2nd
  11. Good news for Brewers fans: The Brewers front office said that if Chacin has a short start tonight, he will be available tomorrow night to start Game 8
  12. Scores standing on a bang-bang play from first on a double. He's a stud and I don't care what the haters say.
  13. maybe so, but it might be nice to have that granular data I was mentioning before we decide we can dismiss it. Otherwise it's just a hunch, as hunchy as my hunch or anyone else's This scoop thing came to light right away in April 2018 in Yankee Stadium when Morrison missed a not too difficult short hop throw by Sano in the 9th, which eventually led to the Yankees winning the game. That one helped move the needle the wrong direction.
  14. And I'm not arguing Mauer is irreplaceable at first base, or that a lot of offense at first base can't make up for subpar fielding there. My belief is that first base defense matters. As far as scoop data, I think it would be interesting to see the speed of throws, spin of bounce, distance from bag, that sort of thing, and then be able to compare similar throws with how other first baseman picked those, before having all that scoop data interpreted or rolled into another stat category. I think Mauer was one of the best, but maybe most good first baseman are pretty close. Don't know. I think moving Sano to first base is now under real consideration; he had throwing problems in the minors and to correct that I think he was instructed to throw low. And he throws hard. Mauer could pick his throws better than Morrison could. I think scooping throws is both an underappreciated skill but also something a first baseman is never charged an error for failing to do.
  15. Data on bounced throws to first base. We just don't have that data (we the public) other than that "scoops" column, which doesn't tell us much. Absent the stat cast data, maybe a "scoops missed" column is the next step.
  16. Because they don't exist. At least not readily or publicly.
  17. I don't like the call, either. Looks like Betts is reaching into the stands moreso than the spectators are reaching into the field. That said, I think Betts catches it if no ones there. Rule 6.01(e) comment: No interference shall be allowed when a fielder reaches over a fence, railing, rope or into a stand to catch a ball. He does so at his own risk. However, should a spectator reach out on the playing field side of such fence, railing or rope, and plainly prevent the fielder from catching the ball, then the batsman should be called out for the spectator’s interference.
  18. I love that bit. I was a regular listener a few years ago and heard the day he first accidentally dropped that (could have been longer ago, I could be wrong of course) and made it a regular thing.
  19. So do you have a second interview two days from now?
  20. Good question, has He interviewed yet?
  21. That's just it--it feels underhanded somehow. Also, coming off a 13 inning game last night where just about everyone pitched. Seems like a waste of a resource.
  22. I guess I just gotta get on board with the "new way", or get the hell out! Anybody know who the Twins Opening Day primary is next year?
  23. I don't know if it's the manager, the GM, or some combination. I don't know if the starter knew this was going to happen. I hope we find all of that out and I hope the Brewers get destroyed today. I just can't get on board with it.
  24. Miley, a lefty, is starting pitcher for Brewers. He pitches to one batter, walks him, and is replaced with a right hander. Presumably to take advantage of the Dodgers lineup that was drawn up to face the lefty. Dear baseball smart guys, Please just stop with this. That includes you, FalVine. Yours, Hosken.
