  1. Kyle Gibson has just been sent back to AAA.
  2. I would put the struggles on this franchise much more on Ryan than on Gardy, as he is just trying to field the best lineup he can and win every night. He cannot be focused on the future, because that is the mentality that leads to managers being fired. Righting this ship is on Ryan to start spending more (although I think the Pohlads love his spending habits, and may be a big part of it) and for us to keep building our farm system, while trading away veterans who are not part of our future. It is the same thing as Philadelphia, Manuel should not have been blamed or fired, and neither should Gardenhire. This is on Ryan and the regime before him. And if anyone gets punished for the on going struggles from the last three years, it is the FO. I like Ryan a lot don't get me wrong, but this is all much more on him than Gardy and his staff. You can't win games with an outfield like the one that was thrown out there today. I would not be surprised if Gardy resigns at some point.. but I hope that the Twins have the decency to realize he is not the problem. And DO NOT fire him in midseason like Philadelphia just unmercifully did to Manuel.
  3. Absolutely not. I agree, Buxton, Sano and Meyer should be part of the future, not traded to help it. Trading them would just further delay our chances to ever be successful again.
  4. What is his ceiling as a starter? Is it likely that he stays one up until the time (if) he becomes a major leaguer? We would all love it if he did and it'll be interesting to see.. But he is already 22 years old with a reliever-history who has not exactly been great this year with a 6.4 K/9, 1.33 WHIP, and 3.74 FIP. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems he's better suited as a dominant reliever than average (?) starter. Granted, if the Twins don't improve the rest of the rotation, he'd be an ace
  5. Baffled is a good word for this scenario. I like TR and want to give him the benefit of the doubt.. But doing nothing is not going to help this organization.
  6. It appears most likely that Meyer and May both start next year in the AAA rotation, with both getting a legitimate chance at cracking the majors as early as opening day. I think this is the best option for both of them, with the best scenario being they both prove they are ready and make it to the Twins ASAP. I don't think Meyer pitches past AA this year.
  7. You have caught me not looking at the advanced statistics of Sano's production.. Well played Mauer. But I feel that the stats and your points prove that Sano is ready to move a level then, but preferably only to AAA. I'd like to see him join AAA soon actually and (as mentioned before in this thread I believe) help Rochester get a playoff berth and experience a playoff push all this fall, then start in Rochester next spring and move up to the big leagues at some point next year when the Twins feel his all around game is ready. I want to see him up here as soon as possible too don't get me wrong, I just don't want to experience another Hicks fiasco (who had also been doing pretty well at AA). And I'm not worried about his attitude, I'm saying that in regards to the Twins and how they seem to be dealing with it.. I think we'd all like to see more emotion and intensity and enthusiasm from this slower than molasses group of players.. But the main question is what do the Twins want? And how will they handle a personality such as Sano when they get a chance to witness it everyday?
  8. With his recent over-reliance on his fastball and harder stuff as a whole, do you think Gibson may be overthrowing due to the heightened expectations we put on this young man so soon after having a major surgery? It seems the state of the Twins starting rotation knows no bounds to how bad it can make anyones day Great article though, and here's hoping that Gibson's last 3 starts or so go much better than his previous major league starts have, and that we can have somewhat of a bright spot to look forward to for next year.
  9. Arcia is an important part of the Twins present and future, for until guys like Sano, Buxton, Walker, etc. come up we really do not have a threat in the lineup that can give Mauer the protection he deserves and needs. He has already been sent down once and has proven that he can crush minor league pitchers, so from this point forward, he has to be a future corner outfielder for the Twins. An outfield with him in left (and batting clean up or 5th in the lineup) with Buxton in center and Hicks in right (I am assuming Kepler moves to first and possibly Vargas or a FA as DH?) would suffice just fine in my book. He will have his miscues in the outfield, sure, but his bat and the defense of his "fellow associates" should more than make up for that. Add in the fact that he just turned 22 in May and seems to have the work ethic to improve all parts of his game, quickly I might add, I think sitting back and watching this kid grow into the hitter we all know he can be will be quite fun.. something I can't say for most of the team these days....
  10. Great article and information, but here is a question for you guys, what do you think the bullpen looks like next year? Do you keep guys like Roenicke and Fien as they become "less inexpensive" or do you let them go and continue to bottom feed for the bargains that Terry Ryan, as pointed out earlier, is very good at. Obviously Perkins will be the closer (and should be for a long time), and Burton will likely stay on if not traded via waivers over the next few weeks, but who else? Do guys like Swarzak and Duensing get a chance to be starters; do they stay if they don't? What of Ryan Pressly? Can he be a starter based on his performance this year out of the pen, or should he stay there based on his moderate success? Obviously this question is best answered after discussing who the Twins STARTERS will be.. which is another whole debacle
  11. I know he is a top prospect, but he is just a 20 year old kid hitting .243. While his OPS shows that he is not being over matched at AA, he really is not exactly "tearing the cover off the ball". Is it really worthwhile for the Twins to call him up this September to get him acclimated with being in the big leagues, which he may not be prepared for until 2015 (when he will only just be turning 22 years old by the way)? I say let him finish out the year in AA, then start him next year in AAA and unless he is playing horrible, he will debut by the time 2014 September call-ups come around, and possibly stay up for good. The Twins have already had problems with this player's attitude, would promoting him from AA to the big leagues and then proceeding to send him back down next spring just cause more issues?
