  1. There's lots of organizational arrogance surrounding the "Twins way". I think the Twins are a little to giddy over winning mediocre Central Divisions when they should be embarassed and apologizing for their woeful, and I mean woeful playoff performances.
  2. Great post, but the lack of responses tell me your post is a little too controversial for this forum.
  3. Total common sense and im amazed more people dont understand this.
  4. Where they screwed up was: 1. Batting him leadoff 2. Not having a backup plan 3. Not calling him up in Sept 2012 to get his feet wet. 4. Not learning their lesson and making the same mistake with Sano this year.
  5. Bringing Hicks north was the right thing to do. It just didnt work. I still think he'll be a great player.
  6. June 22, 1988 I went to a Twins vs Angels game with Frankie sweet music Viola pitching. The game was just over two hours. Viola pitched a complete game three hitter. Moses was 3-3 with an rbi and a run. Oh, the memories!
  7. He's jason tyner. He's a low ceiling 4th outfielder. Mediocrity. The type of player gardy seems to love.
  8. Makes no sense to sign position players. Pitching is the word.
  9. For starters, hicks needs to scrap switch hitting.
  10. Didnt gardy recently make a snyde comment about hicks that ended up on twitter? Maybe the biggest change hicks needs is a manager who wont throw him under the bus. This kid is crazy talented, and I'd much sooner watch him take his lumps rather than watch a no talent bum like Pressley. But he's scrappy and he gets after it. Blah blah blah.
  11. Meaningless rubbish and lies from another pohlad. To think I used to defend that family.....
  12. The disturbing thing is that if he's replaced it will just be someone in the gardenhire mold. I wouldnt be a bit sueprised if it was ullger. In that case they'd be better off sticking with gardy.
  13. Because the division was such a juggernaut all those years, right? Because his teams have been so competitive in the playoffs, right?
  14. Im an old school baseball guy and I love the unwritten rules. Why? For one thing, the game was better in the 70's and 80's than it is now.
  15. [quote name=Shane Wahl]Pelfrey? Pelfrey? He has been merely ok for the past month after being TERRIBLE for much of the season. I am flabbergasted every time someone mentions resigning complete mediocrity or worse for millions of bucks. The Twins can toss that out there for the league minimum and also hope that one or two of them turns the corner (Gibson and Worley or Hendriks). He's done OK first year back from TJ surgery. Finally got his era under 5. I think he's been much better the 2nd half. I think he could be a solid middle of the rotation guy, but undoubtedly will be too expensive for "bargain shopper" Terry Ryan. I'd love to see Pelfrey back.
  16. Its naive to say the allstar game doesnt factor in. And like I said, I dont blame him. That said, I dont care what his WAR is catching. He's up there in years for a catcher, and he suffered a brain injury. Once you suffer one, others will come easily and more frequently. Ask Morneau.
  17. Lets face it. Mauer is catching in 2014 for one reason. Because we're hosting the allstar game and he wants to be the starting catcher. I guess I dont blame him.
  18. [quote name=Brock Beauchamp]Pudge Rodriguez averaged 126 games a season over his first ten seasons. Joe Mauer is at, what, 119 games a season? Mauer's "injury history" is being blown waaaaaaaay out of proportion. Catchers get dinged up and miss games. When they're healthy, they miss games just to rest. Expecting anything more than 130 games a season from a catcher is asking too much. Whether you want to argue that Joe's bat will improve at first and that the 10-15 additional games he'll play at the position will outweigh the lineup strength he provides at catcher, so be it. But his injury history is being overstated. He has missed several partial seasons, two of which were as much due to the Twins being awful as Joe being "injured". He's at an age where catchers historically flame out, AND now he has a brain injury. Morneau hasnt been the same since his last brain injury. Why take the chance with mauer?
  19. If losing will ensure change, I'm all about losing. This organization needs change.
  20. 2015: 1. CF Buxton 2. LF Rosario 3. 1B Mauer 4. 3B Sano 5. DH Arcia 6. RF Hicks 7. 2B Dozier 8. SS Santana 9. C Pinto That has the potential to be an imposing lineup.
  21. Amen. Dozier has excelled at 2nd base. He's a great 2nd baseman and he'd be a mediocre SS. For goodness sake he's had a great season, dont mess with him. Rosario probably would prefer going back to the outfield anyway. If Kepler ever pans out then we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Florimon can hold down the fort at SS until Santana's ready.
  22. Another thing that should be factored in are his defensive skills are declining, and I honestly think pitchers prefer Herrmann. Didnt Deduno say something to the effect he wasnt afraid to bounce a 2 strike breaking ball with Herrmann on the mound? I'd call that a pot shot at Mauer. I know pitchers have made similar hints in the past.
  23. So often common sense goes out the window replaced by over-analysis.
  24. Detroit's getting old and fat. Their window is rapidly closing. The Indians and Royals dont have high ceiling talent like we have coming up.
