  1. Like i said, had ryan been able to properly evaluate Ortiz' talent, they could have offered him a contract similar (likely less) to Hunter's and locked him up another 4-5 years. What kind of stats did he put up from 2003-2007? Who were the Twin's designated hitters those years? Ortiz would have been affordable atleast another four years, so that argument holds no water.
  2. I'm no expert on defenses, but i would love a 3-4 type defense. Complex blitzing schemes. Aggressive man coverage. Of course, it takes talented personel. But yes, this tampa 2 is ridiculous. I swear the only two rules in this defense are dont get beat deep, and tackle your guy right away after you let him catch it.
  3. Ortiz would have been jumping for joy had Ryan offered him a four year deal after the 2002 season. And they could have signed him for less than the 4/$32m they gave Hunter.
  4. I remember Mientkiewicz openly stated he thought the Twins kept Ortiz in AAA almost the entire 1999 season to punish him.
  5. I dont think he's a leader.
  6. Santana probably burned bridges in 2007 when he was publicly angry when they traded Castillo. I dont think ryan will consider him.
  7. I agree, he's only professing his love for the Twins because he knows the offers will be scarce. Liked him as a gap hitter. Hated him as a wannabe HR hitter.
  8. Worse yet, in those five playoff series, they've won TWO games. Its our curse of the Bambino.
  9. They gave long term contracts to hunter, santana, cuddyer, mauer, and morneau.
  10. Saying "He would have left anyway" or "Nobody else wanted him" is a bad argument. First of all, the Twins having developed him, should have been the ones to properly evaluate his potential. Secondly, they could have afforded him another 4-5 years. Seems to me the Twins gave long term deals to Hunter, Santana, Cuddyer, Mauer, and Morneau in the mid 2000's. Ortiz could have gotten a similar deal.
  11. Wasnt kubel one of the biggest complainers about Target Field dimensions? Now he wants back after he struggled in a hitters park? No thanks, Jason.
  12. The thing with kelly was weird. He didnt start out that way. It was as if he woke up one day and decided he was gonna completely change the organizations approach to hitting. As much as I love TK for the World Championships, he's pretty much the one who started this mess. It affected the way they drafted. It affected everything. Between opposite field hitting and pitch to contact, I'm not sure which is more embarrassing.
  13. It would be a completely different story if they had a solid starter at 1st base and DH and there wasnt anuwhere else for mauer to play. Thats not the case. As it stands, their most major league ready prospect is Pinto. He hit at every level last season, and appears to be a very promising player. Its ridiculous for Pinto to be held back when there's a glaring opening at 1st base.
  14. Thats solid reasoning that any clear thinking person not caught up in "positional value" should see.
  15. Three words: Small sample size. So lets put that to rest. Remind me what his numbers are when he's not playing. I want him in the lineup for 162 games. 1st base is the least physically demanding position. He needs to play EVERYDAY. This team needs offense.
  16. So you're saying its best for the team having a banged up Mauer behind the plate? His offense suffers when he catches. It wears him down. Not to mention the whole concussion thing. Not to mention Pinto deserves a shot and looks very promising. Not to mention I don't want Chris Colabello at 1B.
  17. Could not agree more. The entire 2000's they economically constructed teams just strong enough to win the crummy Central, but too flawed for playoff success. Signing Phil Hughes is just going in the same direction. Can we aspire for more?
  18. Im still puzzled why he elected rehab over surgery when the injury occurred during the 2005 season. Could have used a healthy radke in the playoffs.
  19. Radke's the one who started this whole pitch-to-contact disaster. I propose a Radke jersey burning ceremony to lift the curse.
  20. Well he's exactly what this team needs. He embodies toughness and a winner's mentality. This team has neither. I would be ecstatic having AJ and Pinto split the catching duties 50/50.
  21. What I respect about the Cardinals is they were willing to let their franchise player walk rather than sign him to a franchise crippling contract. Now Pujols is in a Mauer-like decline and the Cardinals look like geniuses.
  22. Im all for trading him for the right return, but exactly what would you expect to get for him right now after struggling and being publicly humiliated by gardenhire.
  23. I was really looking forward to an outfield of Kepler/Buxton/Hicks someday.
  24. I always thought having a view like that was weak. People didn't want Jordan to come back because they wanted to remember him how he was. I just wanted to see Jordan again, and could have cared less if he was past his prime. Same with people who complain about movie sequels. Never understood why. None of the Rocky sequels made the original any less of a movie.
