  1. Also, the comments are much better on this site. Yikes.
  2. Seems like he just picked three people to write about because it was convenient to run with the "organizational roots" thing.
  3. Hunter is looking Kubel-esque from last year on both sides of the ball, except they're paying him 10 mil to do it.
  4. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/jaws_C.shtml All the more amazing when you consider he could play for another 10 years!
  5. Joe Mauer is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime type talent. He gets so much undeserved garbage thrown his way I'm glad stuff like this still gets written from time to time.
  6. Syndergaard was still available when they picked Wimmers..... I'd have been pretty ok with Zach Lee too. Obviously, they'd do it over if they could.
  7. I've never even heard of Heiker Meneses.
  8. I know of somebody else who had a "pretty great year for the Pirates" and who has "been erratic and inconsistent throughout his career" and will "turn 32 next year." I think we should just assume the Pirates are better at this than the Twins are and look for less of a project.
  9. From Gleeman on Twitter today: Nick Markakis, 2012-2014: .279 AVG, .342 OBP, .396 SLG Norichika Aoki, 2012-2014: .287 AVG, .353 OBP, .387 SLG https://twitter.com/AaronGleeman/status/539845959581454336
  10. If he keeps it up, you could be looking at double that to lock him up to something similar in a year, but I agree - I don't care about the Twins' money and I think they'll keep him one way or another - if he can prove himself again next year.
  11. He's since updated it with a mention of him in the 'others' section.
  12. Baltimore is gonna give up Bundy for Suzuki/Duensing? You must be high.
  13. He didn't have a choice this time.....
  14. Market inefficiency: Salvageable twins pitching castoffs.
  15. "I don’t think anyone expects guys like Colabello and Kubel to keep hitting, after all, and Kurt Suzuki has a long track record of not being able to hit, so expecting him to have figured something out at age-30 is unrealistic. The Twins offense is performing way over its head, and is basically guaranteed to regress over the next five months." Cruel reality!
  16. He was already off the Twins' 40 man after clearing waivers. They could have stashed him in the minors without any consequences to the major league roster.
  17. There was an article discussing this up at Fangraphs the other day: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-myth-of-six-years-of-team-control/ If the players union could somehow prove the team acted in bad faith by reassigning Springer to the minors in retaliation for refusing the contract, they would certainly have a valid reason to file a grievance. They won't be able to make that case though, because as people already mentioned, he hasn't done anything that would convince a neutral arbitrator that the team isn't sending him down for performance reasons. A rebuilding team with limited resources like the Astros has every incentive to buy up the arbitration years of its most talented players as a cost-control measure, and in cases where players aren't interested, has an equal incentive to leave those players in the minors to develop as much as possible before starting the service clock. That's not the team "screwing over" the players, it's the team acting in its best interest within the current rules of the CBA, and it certainly doesn't make them a "stupid franchise," it makes them a smart one. Did I mention how absolutely stacked with statistically-savvy, sabermetric types the Astros front office is? Maybe the Twins should try that.
  18. Any chance Deolis Guerra makes the team? He's had a near perfect spring so far, albeit over a small sample (7 Ks in 4 IP w/ 0 RA).
  19. Thinkin' like 72, but an over nonetheless.
  20. 21. Worst thing about this is it's one less reason (out of very few total) to care about watching the Twins THIS season. That said, they weren't going to be any good regardless so it doesn't hurt the team much long term (and maybe helps if he ends up being very good in his late 20's and they get an extra year of control out of him) IMO assuming he comes back from the procedure without any complications. I think it's encouraging the medical staff pulled the trigger rather than delaying the inevitable as they've done numerous times in the past. I was excited to watch him this year, but I'll be even more excited to watch him next year when they have a realistic chance of being decent.
  22. What's "FA?" It wasn't listed in the key he had up, but it was the only list that didn't have Buxton number 1 (apparently went Bogaerts/Sano/Buxton, which, fine split hairs if you want, but somebody's always gotta be different for different's sake, don't they?) At any rate, nice to see the Twins with 4 consensus top 40 guys. The average is ~1 and a number of teams don't have any.
  23. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-top-100-prospects/ Marc Hulet of Fangraphs just posted his 2014 top prospects: #1 Byron Buxton (OF) #10 Miguel Sano (3B) #23 Alex Meyer (P) #32 Kohl Stewart (P) #76 Eddie Rosario (2B/OF) #93 Jose Berrios (P) Sano is ranked behind Bryant as the second best 3b prospect. Looks like he considers Meyer and Stewart second tier pitching prospects with Meyer coming in at #11 behind the overall top 10. He notes that Stewart is among those with the best chance of shooting up the rankings next year.
  24. Wouldn't mind knowing how the prospect points break down based on BP's top 100 (Twins have 8 in theirs that were generally ranked higher as well, so I'm assuming the system would be ranked higher than 5th), and which has a better track record for graduating MLB talent over the last several years. This may be out there somewhere already, if not, somebody probably has some down time at work tomorrow, right?
  25. "Then the baseball gods said to Terry Ryan, "I will rain down talent from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and marvel at him enough for that day." And Ryan said to all the Twins fans, "In the evening you will know it was the baseball gods who brought you out of last place, and in the morning you will see the glory of the baseball gods, because they have heard your grumbling against them. And they have given you Byron Buxton." And everybody said amen."
