  1. I can't say he is untouchable talent wise, so much can change from now until 5 years later when he's likely mlb ready. I just dont like the idea of trading guys that young before you have any semblence of what they can really be when they show. Im not opposed to trading Thorpe period. However in 2 years he very likely could be a top 20 prospect in all of baseball and could fetch 2-3 times what he would now. Guys that young with that much upside I just want to get up to high A or AA before trading them away.
  2. It's not going to happen without giving up 1 of Buxton, Meyer, or Sano. They just arent close enough to contend to justify it. Honestly I think the Rays should trade Price straight up to the Orioles for Chris Davis. Orioles need a ace, Rays need a power hitter. Both players have 2 years control left & will get them an 1st round comp pick atleast if not resigned. I know its the rays strategy to hoard prospects & picks but they can win it all with more offense & already have issues with having almost too many prospects.
  3. Yeah, Thorpe I would keep out of it.
  4. They have plenty of power hitting corner OF/1B/DH types. There isnt much value in Willingham for them.
  5. If Liriano had been on the trade block going into the 2010 season, which is a very similar scenario that Anderson is in right now. You would say its ridiculous to give him up for anything but another teams top 10-20 prospect. It's funny how some people only want it to work one way. I would give up Berrios & Goodrum easily.
  6. I like that the player has a choice between hghest bids although MLB really just needs to get to an overall international draft thats seperate from the amateur draft that doesnt just rely on slot money assigned by amateur draft order. I think the favorites are 1) Dodgers 2) Mariners 3) Yankees 4) Red Sox . . . #)Twins I think Ryan makes a $20mill bid and tries to lure him but don't think he will choose MN to negotiate with. Also, I think Ryan signs Garza right after the Tanaka domino drops.
  7. Doumit had a pretty good season prior to being resigned & filled a role this team needed very nicely. The contract isnt that bad and has not held them back from making any moves. Far from a foolish decision. Mistakes are selling so low on players like Delmon & Liriano etc... I meant to quoute the other post too, agreeing with your sentiments on it...
  8. I suspected Fryer staying on the 40 man says they knew about this long ago already.
  9. Im not a big fan but they are looking for 3B help, if they are willing to roll with Sano at 3B I'd def swap Plouffe for him. Can't say I'd give any more than that for him.
  10. My only untouchables due to either talent level or lack of orgizational depth prospect wise would be Buxton, Sano, Meyer, Stewart, Rosario, Thorpe, Kepler, & maybe Polanco. Anyone else lets talk.
  11. The key to identifying the right prospects to move in a deal like this is positional depth. Right now the Twins have a great deal of RHSP depth in the lower minors, 1B, middle infield & college drafted relievers in the mid minors. Not in a particular order: OF/1B --- Inf ----- SP ------ RP Kepler - Rosario - Meyer - Tonkin Walker - Escobar - May - Pressley Vargas - Polanco - Stewart - Bard --------- Santana - Berrios - Jones --------- Goodrum - Thorpe - Chargois --------- Minier - Eades - Melotakis --------- Micheal - Gonsalves - Williams -------------------- Boyd Its clear there is a lot of high end talent depth in the middle infield & pitching. I'd be hesitant to move a corner OF/1B with the lack of depth in prospect talent. I'd be hesitant to move a guy as high as Berrios but if it takes a package of Berrios, Goodrum, & Bard I would pull the trigger given the depth of talent at those positions. IF you like what you see out of Anderson after this year, with his prior injury history I could definitely see him signng an extension prior to his walk year.
  12. I dont think it will happen opening day but Escobar will eventually unseat Florimon this year. He's continued hitting very well with some pop with his countries home team in the winter leagues.
  13. The best way to improve the offense in 2014 is to make Willingham the full time DH to stay healthy. Use a Plouffe/Parmelee platoon in RF, start Sano at 3B to start the year. Hermann can be a solid backup C, Pinto needs to be allowed to work & grow with the staff. I don't think they are putting Doumit back behind the plate because of his concussion issues as well. Maybe he asked not to too play it or just the combo of wretched D & fears about the concussions idk. He's not playing Catcher except in an emergency, that has to be the only reason Fryer is still around on the 40 man. Buston will not be a September callup in 2014, he will play in the AFL again to gain experience. No point in starting his service clock & losing an option for a September callup when he can return to the AFL. I do think he will be given every oppertunity to win the CF spot to start 2015 in ST if he continues to rake the way he has at every level this year. A 2015 OF of Rosario/Buxton/Hicks is nearly locked in with Arcia rotating LF/RF/DH. Sano, Pinto, & Dozier are all expected to be more than capable offensively. With Mauer at 1B, SS is really the only position that doesnt have a true elite prospect. Someone from the group of Polanco, Santana, Goodrum, & even a late charging Eduardo Escobar will need to step up.
  14. Its something to factor in but its way to early to even go there. Even if he was projected for a releif role the Twins like to have those guys start a few years to improve their stanima & work on secondary pitches more.
  15. Ehh I don't think he's much of an upgrade over Pressly or Mastrioanni. Certainly no enough to be worth giving up a legitimate prospect. Phil Hughes will have an ERA of 6 with an OF of Willingham, Pressley, & Arcia. Willingham needs to be a full time DH period.
  16. This is very suprising especially considering he had an option left. He would have been much easier to sneak off the 40 man roster after the rule 5 draft when teams already have filled their open spots on the 40 man roster. While he struggled quite a bit starting how do they not move him off into a bullpen role & follow a path like Swarzak. Possible back end of the rotation guy with very good minor league numbers who struggles. Move him to the bullpen he gains 2-3 mph on his fastball all of a sudden you have a valuable guy out of the pen to give you innings. Fryer should have been moved, this is ridiculous. If he doesnt get claimed there must be a big injury red flag that popped up last year still lingering.
  17. Oakland has money for a change, they just took in Jim Johnson as a closer at $10mill. They are where the Twins hopefully will be in 2015-2018. Loaded with talented pre arbitration players stacking a cheap roster. They wont just dump him for marbles. I get the injury history but most of it is realted to TJ issues with the elbow. He has "Ace stuff" and can dominate games when he is healthy.
  18. I wouldnt give up any top 10 prospects for sure, probably not top 15 either. I would try & push Levi Michael packaged with someone like Worley & Burton but dont think that would do it. I would probably pull the trigger on a counter offer with Niko Goodrum, Worley, & Ryan Pressley. You still have Danny Santana, Jorge Polanco, & Eddie Rosario so you can afford to give up on a promising middle infielder.
  19. Levi Micheal & Vance Worley anyone hahaha
  20. It would be really nice to see if Alex Wimmers & Angel Morales could put themselves back on the prospect map.
  21. Agreed & well stated. I like the idea of these guys who are fast movers starting in AAA and getting their timing & confidence going before being promoted to the majors mid season. That where the Rosario suspension really hurts, it pushes him back to 2015 almost guaranteed. Also Rosario has been putting up strong hitting numbers at every level while being very young compared to the average age of players in those leagues. He isn't a Sano/Buxton level prospect but pretty close to Arcia. Rosario put up fairly similar #'s to Arcia at the same levels/ages with a little less power.
  22. Too bad we can't trade with Bill Smith & get power hitters for 27 year old AAAA relievers
  23. With the lack of offense defense will be even more crucial. Willingham needs to be the full time DH with Pressly & Mastrioanni in LF/CF & Arica in RF. I was hopeful of catching lighning in a bottle with Calabello but he looked very over matched at the MLB level. I don't expect Hicks to be up unless he is really doing well at AAA to start with. Dozier Pressley Mauer Willingham Arcia Plouffe Pinto Mastrioanni Florimon
  24. Toronto will outbid those offers of Fien, Burton etc... all day long. Teams would pay Anderson 2/20 on the free agent market easily.
  25. It's going to take Perkins & a Worley type to get him & I'm completely ok with that.
