  1. Agreed The Twins will not get value for Span. There would be a huge hole at the top of the order. What is needed is starting pitching. That will not come for Span. That will have to be bought If the Twins can get 2 legitimate starters they will win the division next year. Keep Liriano, Diamond, Hendriks add Greinke and one more they will win 90 games minimum
  2. Seth great respect and admiration for all you do I love following the minors with your help. Rare that you make a mistake, which is why I laughed reading the stats on Felix Jorge giving up 119 hits in 27 innings. That would be something wouldn't it? As a math teacher, I chuckle when that stuff happens. But like I said .. your work is amazing and much appreciated.
  3. How many of these guys would make the Twins top 50 list. Here is Seth's 50th ranked prospect How many are better than Trent? #50 – Trent Higginbotham, RHP Higginbotham was the Twins 26th round draft pick in 2011 out of high school in Alabama. He signed on the last possible day for a well-above-slot $195,000. The right-hander is 6-2 and 195 and has a very projectable frame with room to grow. He turned 20 years old last week and already boasts a fastball that touches 94 mph. He also throws a curveball and a changeup. I would guess that he will pitch in Elizabethton starting in June, but it is possible that he will start in the GCL.
  4. no Boras and Appel
  5. wow now what??????
  6. Can the Twins afford to have another top pitching prospect on rehab? Gibson, Wimmer and Giolito would be the 3 best guys and all have injury issues. But I guess with Giolito, he would not be looking to hit the majors for 4 years or so anyway....If he is that good the injury would not matter so much. The college guys are expected to contribute sooner
  7. And I do not think a finished product catcher is necessary. There are a couple of those in the pipeline. What the Twins need is PITCHING
  8. As far as need goes, don't the Twins now have a pack of good high draft choice SS in the system? Dozier, Santana, Levi, and Goodrum all come to mind. Where would Correa fit?
  9. Brown is in the top 30 pitchers group yes so he should be there at #42 unless only pitchers get drafted.....and probably will be there later at 63 or 72. That is still very high in the draft. The Twins need to take the best players, not just the best local players.
  10. The Puckett Pond study is well done but still essentially meaningless. Its the old small survey size syndrome. Over 18 years, there is about 100 guys per category. If a few college pitchers make it out of this class, or don't make it, as seems more likely given the reports of the strength of the class, the whole percentage ranking could change. They still have to draft based on the tools and makeup of each guy. I don't know anything about the personalities and talents of Buxton, Corea, Gausman et al.. I hope the actual draft guys do.
  11. This has become my favorite part of Twins Daily Thanks Seth!
  12. Too funny. But too true as well. I don't think you can win with that kind of defense over the whole season. It's just too hard on everybody when you keep giving the other team extra outs. Maybe Willingham has to DH? @ runs with his bat and -3 with his glove is not gonna work
  13. Hope you guys are finally making some coin
  14. Maybe they get more games from Mauer if he catches less but 90 for him means 70 for the backup. If they go only 2 catchers, that might be a high number for Doumit behind the plate. I predict 100 catching, 30 at 1st and 15 or so at DH
  15. Works fine Then Tuesday off, Pavano on Wed, Liriano on Thursday, Hendriks or Marquis on Friday in Texas , Blackburn on Saturday and Baker on Sunday April 15 It works And Baker could slide in a couple days earlier if ready since he can come off DL on the 12th. Marquis could be back by then as well and they just need one start from Hendriks
  16. Going with two catchers...... so who does that leave? 16 non-pitchers .... 3 more to go Towles is one... so then its Dinkelman, Burroughs, Dozier Parmelee left for the last 2 spots I think Parmelee is in and Dinkelman is out so it is between Dozier and Burroughs like people have been saying
  17. Agree with the useless spring stats comments. That being said, what exactly is the reason that everyone has decided Parmelee is having such a great spring? It definitely isn't the stats....
  18. If the Twins pitch .. they will contend. If they do not get starting pitching... it will be a long summer. But they will score some runs
  19. Senior baseball writer at Foxsports just submitted a video preview of the AL Central and only mentioned "prohibitive" favorite Detroit, the Chicago White Sox and the KC Royals. Guess it's wait til next year time already.....
  20. Towles catching and on the bench versatility! jk who do you think that other bench guy might be?
  21. yes everything you are saying is spot on. I am a fan, not a blogger. And I am checking Twins Daily at least as often as the Star Tribune. I think the old model does not have to go away, they just need to do better with the access they have. Rhett is doing great new stuff with video and pics....I was intrigued by the pic of the lineup card today for example. And the vids that he and Mackey are posting is good use of the new technology. But these guys are working full time down there with complete access and they are producing less than Seth Strohs. Although to be fair, when you include Twitter Mackey and Bollinger are very active. But they need to respond to the new competition. We want more. As for the other point that there is no accountability, again you are too right. If its bad and wrong, I don't read it. There are far more Twins blogs I skip than read. That's just business. If its good it "sells" . I read Gleeman cause I know it will be good, based on years of experience. Same with Geek and although he IS too positive for me sometimes, you just can't ignore the sheer volume of good information Seth brings EVERY DAY.
  22. Hicks though already repeated A ball at Beloit. He can't take 2 years at every stop. I think this is more about it being put up or shut up time. Even if he would shine at Ft.Meyers, it would be a 4th year at single A and mean nothing. He needs to break out NOW
  23. Sure is hard to judge these pitchers like Fein who only pitch in the late innings of ST games where everybody swings at the first pitch to get it over with.....
