  1. We have such a weak bench that with Buxton and Sano down we have Escobar hitting fourth against the Dodgers. Can't someone figure this out. We have minor league options for those spots.
  2. I am a little confused by the continuing hate on Molitor. I agree this switch was a mess, but I am not sure that MLB and its umpires handled it professionally and I agree that MLB needs to start announcing to the crowd what is going on in these prolonged interruptions - remember this is the year they are addressing length of game - how about length of interruptions? Molitor has been given a lot of young and therefore inconsistent players from the FO. The rotation help that this FO has thrown at the team this year is a joke. If they wanted a Garcia type pitcher they should have gone after him in the off season and skipped the Tepesch, Wilf, and all the others I refuse to continue to remember. Dozier had not value last year according to reports, with this years performance he has less. Molitor played Sano in RF last year, but was that his decision or was he following orders? The Twins called up Polanco for ridiculous reasons and we lost the ability to send him back down to get himself right - winter ball ahead? The only other FO effort was getting a better catcher. We did, but the raves stop here. How many more runs have we surrendered than our opposition have given us (72)? How big would that be if didn't have a great pitch framer? We are currently 24th place among teams on run differential. I do not care if Molitor stays or goes, but I also feel that there are very few managers who really impact the W-L records dramatically. How many more games would we have won with a different manager? I am harder on coaches. I wanted the pitching coach to go last year and I am just as adamant this year. I think pitching coaches actually have a greater impact on the team than the managers.
  3. Glad to see Santiago continuing his brilliance in AAA, let's leave him there. Rucinski is a player that I really do not know much about but he looks brilliant in AAA, but was terrible in MLB. What is his back story. Does he have a future? I know AAA is usually not as rich in true prospects as AA, is that true this year too?
  4. The minor leaguers are the hope of the future, and if the FO does not get caught up in its own stubborn sense of significance they will come up and be part of this years success.
  5. I do not mind Haley being outrighted, but based on the way we have treated him and the impact he has had on prior decisions it is a shocking move.
  6. If Garcia does well I can see the extension talks starting in August. This FO is not adverse to DFA and demotions so I see Santiago out of here if Garcia and Colon hold the spots, Mejia has won his place and I do not see them messing with him this year. Colon is the wild card, the place holder for Gibson or Santiago. I wish I could say for Gonsalves or Romero.
  7. What did they tell Gibson who seemed to be at his best lately - don't worry it is just until Bartolo falls apart we should see you in a couple weeks?
  8. Call me confused. This seems like a no-brainer. Why did it take so long? Who cares about the catcher, he will not be wearing a Twins uniform. Of course if the team folds and Garcia leaves we will have a 33 year old minor league catcher.
  9. I understand what you are saying, but you are picking one thing out of the context that I am tired of Ks and 4 is terrible. Yes one could have been a DP, but I would take in exchange for four contact swings. The DP is a potential, but so is a hit, an error, a fielder's choice...Do you remember the misplay of a DP ball in yesterday's game - we ended up scoring a run.
  10. I am a believer, although I prefer to think that they will outperform Garcia over the next two years.
  11. WOW - this game brought out the worst of the Twins and the worst of us commentators. Sano striking out four times really stinks. Sorry Miguel but not touching the ball is horrible, much worse than grounding out, even much worse than a DP - did you see Kinsler butcher a DP and allow us a run - that is what happens when balls are in play. A K does nothing, allows for nothing positive - it just stinks. The BP did a masterful job and this is not a winning team, not a team in contention. It is the kind of team we are supposed to beat. Who gets the Twins player of the day - I guess it must be Kepler for a wonderful bunt, but how sad that that is our highlight. Now in third place. Come on Twins - get some inspiration from the 87 Team. They were not good either, they just refused to lose
  12. I was not excited about Garcia, but I do think that we have a number of good pitchers who are not going to make a splash with the Twins - we write about them every year - so why not give them a choice to pick from and get it done?
  13. Why aren't we trying Romero on one of those debut starts - he and Gonsalves deserve the chance and not the excuse at the end of the season that they reached their inning limits. With Garcia out we have to look down and that is what I would have preferred to begin with.
  14. That was a wonderful video and I really enjoyed bringing back those memories. One thing that fascinated me was my inability to remember the bullpen. Senor Smoke and Reardon were easy, but the rest disappeared. Les Straker was such a story, it was fun to be reminded of him. Sorry Bruno could not be there, but I wonder if his dismissal played into his decision. After that presentation, the Twins did not dare lose the game.
  15. I am having trouble with this comparison. I enjoy it and I am a big catcher stat skeptic, but here are the weaknesses that need some explanation. Both Santana a good pitcher and Hughes, a bad pitcher, have better BABIP when throwing to Giminez. That is a telling stat, more than ERA where the bullpen can add to the numbers. The opposite is true for the other pitchers. but why? Who were the opponents? When did Mejia pitch to Giminez - was it before or after his seemingly significant turn around? I too, want Garver called up, but the real question is who is better between Giminez and Garver?
  16. Every good starter is going to have a bad game, lets hope tonight a bad starter will have a good game. Adrianza is doing so well both in the field and at bat that it is hard to see Polanco getting more than a couple starts per week for now. I am impressed with Sanos hitting. I know he can get HRs, but the fact that he is also getting his share of singles and doubles is really impressive and makes him a much more dangerous hitter.
  17. I continue to be fascinated with the Castro compliments. Besides the fact that he cannot hit, Baseball Prospectus has him 9th http://www.baseballprospectus.com/sortable/index.php?cid=1899425. Now if I give him credit for Santana, Berrios, Rogers, and Kinzler, who gets the blame for the other 24 pitchers - yes we have had 28 pitchers this year if we include Giminez and why not include him, he has been better than some. Yes there is value in catcher abilities, but I believe we are in an age where that is being overrated. I would like to see us get Garver or someone with a little more offense as the second catcher. Ultimately great pitchers pitch great and lousy pitchers are just lousy. Steal a strike once in a while, fine, but we also have to score some more runs.
  18. First Colon, now Garcia, maybe we can really negotiate with the Braves and bring in the retired three old HOFs, we choose the wrong Braves team to be our pitching source.
  19. Buy only if we get a front line piece like Gray, Sell only if we have the plan to replace and the talent level is too good to walk away from. Do not deal in mediocrity, we have seen that moving van come through too often this season. Stand pat rather than making a worthless splash. So I am for all three it just depends...
  20. I have been fascinated by the love for Samardzija that I have seen the last few years. In 10 years he has averaged 6 wins, 8 losses and a 4.12 Era and 1.25 WHIP. Baseball reference shows his 162 game record as 9 - 12. I know that the new thing is to discount wins and losses, but he is a starter and they have the best opportunity to accumulate wins/losses of any pitcher and someone has to do it. He shows the potential to do well, somehow does not get over the hurdle. I would not go after him with any of our assets of value.
  21. What a nice contrast from old, big and done to young and talented. Forget my ticket to the Big Sexy event, I prefer to see ball players.
  22. Romero and Gonsalves - that is all I have to say. It is something I have been saying since the all star game. Why not?
  23. I really like it. The information shared when he was drafted made him seem like he was ready for a fast track and it is good to see that the team is willing to let him rise as his talent dictates. I do not like the unwritten rules that are so often applied to time and promotion for minor leaguers. This is not aggressive, in my mind it is smart. Thanks for the article.
  24. Right now we have two options - trade ( and I have no idea when that would be) and keep trying out the minor leaguers and let those who have already failed move out of the way. I want to see the minor league arms filling out the pen for now.
  25. The only thing we proved it the adage that AL will add at least 1/2 run to the NL ERA. Colon came in with a NL 8.13 and left with an AL 9.00. Not excited, but reading Seth's comment I agree that we can let him start against the Yankees and Dodgers then bring up Gonsalves and Romero and start looking at the potential for the future rotation. I am really tired of scrap heap vets. Then we can also bring up minor league relievers and jettisons the old batch. Yesterday on the game the radio announcers said we were next to last in relief pitcher Ks. That says a lot and Pressly who does strike out players alternates Ks with hits and that is not good either. Granite is fine, number 2 hole could be right once he is established but once again the Twins have a difficulty getting so many of their minor league players to transition to the majors.
