  1. Nick Nelson - I was finally able to make a payment and order the handbook. Thanks for you offer - I am happy to pay for the book.
  2. Nice article, but falling short on Harper and Machado is not being cheap. Only two teams over spent enough to get them and I believe the results of those two teams shows how much real value there is in such stud players. If it were worth throwing that kind of money at players San Diego and Philadelphia would not be hiring new managers. Mike Trout is the acknowledged superdooper surefire HOF player and he cannot get his team to the playoffs. I have issues with all the FA discussions - would we have really been better if we had broken the bank for Yu Darvish the year before? Ask the Cubs fans. I agree that they have not acquired the prospects that the Twins did, but I do believe they are still on the rise and pitchers sometimes take a year or two to get over the rookie blues - see the career of J O Berrios.
  3. Budget should not be the consideration - we have underspent the last two years. The question is the team quality not the budget. There are enough dollars to go around if the team wants to acquire someone. The QO is too high, make a decent offer and then if he walks it is his decision.
  4. Gordon is a miss, a player who I doubt will ever match his initial potential. One of many, but certainly I would move him. With Lewis and then Wander coming up and a young lineup in MLB it is better to find a place for him to develop at MLB.
  5. Risk Error 10626 Transaction refused due to risk model I could not get a screen shot - it is a pop up that disappears. Can I send a check?
  6. As much as I love defense, the stat that is important to me is "In the two years since, Buxton has only had five at-bats after July 31". If this next year repeats what we have seen I think we have to look at how we fill out a full year of OF play. Jake Cave is not going to do it and I suspect the FO is looking at Lewis as a possible solution. Trade Buxton if it fixes pitching, otherwise lets get to a point with four quality OF players so that Buxton can be part of a mix and match.
  7. I was not able to complete my order - I got a risk message and it did not go through. I am in Vicksburg and will try when I get home. Any suggestions?
  8. Versions of the shift have been around since baseball began, but overuse of anything is dangerous. Good players adjust, good teams adjust. Selective use is the best way to be effective. In the past fields slid around depending upon the pitcher and how batters would hit them, now we go to arbitrary use and it just makes be delighted to see Arraez come to bat. One of my favorite plays in the ALCS was catcher Maldonado laying down a bunt for a hit!
  9. He could play in every era. I loved watching him play. He reminded me of both Carew and Red Schoendienst.
  10. I like the idea of a new bullpen strategy. The Yankees BP was shot by the time they were in game four. If starters have to have 5 days between starts how can relievers be expected to go every day?
  11. You need to look at his clutch performance stats. This is an area where young players usually fail. Eddie is much better than Kepler in clutch situations. I like players who come through when there are men on base
  12. https://theathletic.com/1306107/2019/10/20/carig-everyone-was-running-on-fumes-bullpen-plan-falls-short-for-yankees/?source=dailyemail This is an article related to my post and your comments. "Said Britton, “I still think starting pitching is what’s going to get you a World Series championship at the end of the day.”"
  13. Gleeman was the one who got me started with Rosario and then the new essays pushed me to write. Thanks. It has been really fun to have all those responses.
  14. Too be fair I need to post on your site what I wrote on my Blog https://twinsdaily.com/blogs/entry/11683-%7B%3F%7D/ I quoted your choice for Eddie because it illustrated what I am talking about and then I added this "I would have chosen his HR total, His RBI total, or more important his clutch hitting - How about the OBP of 344 or the slugging 518 when there are two outs and runners in scoring position?" Eddie is getting a lot of bad press and I guess I have become his defender even though he is not my favorite player (Arraez is). I hope you do not mind, I really like your approach and overall essay.
  15. In a new Blog on this site Matthew Taylor illustrated what this blog is about - he chose numbers for all players - one number to illustrate that player - Rosario comes up and this is what he wrote - "3. Eddie Rosario Number: 3.51 PITCHES PER PLATE APPEARANCE. This is the first number on this list that should be taken negatively. While Eddie Rosario posted a career high in R, HR and RBI this season, what I will remember most from Rosario’s 2019 season is his impatience at the plate. A huge gripe among Twins’ faithful this season was Baldelli’s stubbornness with keeping Rosario in the cleanup spot all season. It was maddening to have Kepler, Polanco and Cruz work the opposing pitcher into 7 or 8 pitch ABs and mount a rally only to have Rosie bail the pitcher out with a pop out on the first pitch of the at bat. The 3.51 P/PA illustrates this feeling perfectly as he finished dead last on the club in this statistic." I would have chosen his HR total, His RBI total, or more important his clutch hitting - How about the OBP of 344 or the slugging 518 when there are two outs and runners in scoring position? Matthew wrote a very good and thoughtful blog and I am just reaching into the Rosario section because it fits what I am talking about - http://twinsdaily.com/blog/1299/entry-11681-twins-hitters-2019-by-the-numbers/
  16. We have enough catchers in the minors to cover any needs for a third catcher - Jeffers, Rortvedt, Tellis, and Sawyer - to cover any injury time or use issues for Astudillo and Garver
  17. The use of pitchers for 2 or more innings reduces the number of relievers used and therefore you have more fresh arms for the next game. I would start to use a little more starter mentality and start stretching out the pitchers to 2 - 3 innings and pitch every three days if possible. Most of these guys were starters at one time. Let them go through a lineup once before changing. There has to be a different strategy and I appreciate this essay and the beginning of a new thought process for the BP. By the way, I think the season over use of BP arms and then the nightly reliance on them is what doomed the Yankees.
  18. I am frustrated about our use of September call ups. It is a place where I want debuts of players who are close. We should use it to prepare for the next year.
  19. The problem is - we do not know if Larnach is MLB ready, nor do we know with Kiriloff who has already had a lot of injury related time off in his MiLB career. One will be on first, one in the OF. But if they are not ready I do not want the Twins to slip backward.
  20. In this conversation I would say that the salary in this era does not mean anything. He is cheap unless you have a rookie to take his place. when the game is on the line I see Eddies step up with more enthusiasm and energy. Maybe he gets bored at times, but his bat is a weapon I would not want to lose.
  21. I know hate is a strong word, and perhaps the wrong one, but in the vernacular when someone is dumped on hate is often used. However, the key to the choice of words is to get a reaction and it has worked, so many good posts is really important. It is not just on this site, but common in others places too. The trade Eddie, Eddie is overrated, often the text makes a case for no team actually wanting him. Like I said, I never thought I would be writing an essay on Rosario like this, but the trade Eddie, Eddie is no longer valuable sentiment just got to me. I wish I could quote from the Gleeman and the Geek podcast.
  22. Of course that might not be the case either if Lewis is taking Buxton's place in center.
  23. Maybe I have listed to Gleeman and the Geek too much. I think Lewis is our insurance package for Buxton who has demonstrated too many injuries - which in the long run take a toll, as does age, on a player who depends on speed. Eddie might not be long term in LF either with Kiriloff and Larnach, but I do not want to be without him until they are ready to provide at least as much offense since neither of them gets written up as defensive greats.
  24. Lewis SS Polanco 3B Sano 1B or DH. All in 2021. Arraez 2B.
  25. Why am I seeing shots at Eddie Rosario all over TD? No, he is not our best player, but he is a good player. He gets 1.6 WAR this year according to Baseball Reference. He had a line of .276 /.300/.500/.800 this year and in the little aside on the MVP for this year he sounds like he should be LVP. Last year he was .288/.323/.479/.803 and the same site named him MVP. Now we want to trade him for a broken bat and one of the regular season rabbit balls. What is going on. He is not HOF, but he is good. Who will take his place? Who will hit 32HRs and 109 RBIs if he is gone? Can we guarantee Larnach or Kiriloff are ready to do it? I hate having to be the one to speak up for Eddie, but someone has to question the madness. Here are some highlights - go ahead 3-run home run https://www.mlb.com/video/eddie-rosario-homers-21-on-a-fly-ball-to-right-center-field-luis-arraez-scores-m Astudillo and Rosario lead win Rosario 4 hit game https://www.mlb.com/video/rosario-homers-in-4-hit-game Garver and Rosario lead win Home Run 31 https://www.mlb.com/video/eddie-rosario-homers-31-on-a-fly-ball-to-right-center-field No he is not great - but he is good and if we choose to trade him it should not be because we want to get rid of him, but because we get a player who can do even more to help us win in the post season.
