  1. Lots of A's and A+ and B+ grades floating everywhere, but as a college instructor I have to tell you I do not give grades at the beginning of the semester and we should look at forecasts, but not give grades to these teams yet.
  2. I was very high on Romero at one point, but I cannot equate him with Graterol. The pen seemed to ruin Romero, while Graterol was great in a late season and playoff usage. Romero did not get over the mental hurdle but Graterol just want the ball. I suspect Graterol will be a real stud, but Romero will be someone with so much talent that everyone wants him to succeed and therefore he will hang around on the fringes.
  3. 2021 - it will be Garver and Jeffers - then the catcher position will really have an offensive advantage over other teams.
  4. I have been really excited by this prospect. At catcher, hitting like he does I am curious what names are ahead of him - I suspect the usual Kiriloff, Lewis, Larnach, Balazovic, but I cannot imagine who else would rate above him. I am with Nick at 5, and because catcher is so important and hard to get maybe 4. Since Rortvedt is not listed yet - is he above Jeffers? Not for me. This has been a great list and so far few disagreements - this is just a mild one. Wander Javier would not be top 20 for me, and Blayne Enlow and Rooker above Thorpe? I hope not. Unless Thorpe has reached the peak and is now in free fall.
  5. Not excited by Chacin, hope for a rookie break out, but most love it if Balazovic pushed his way up the ladder. I also have questions for Bailey. I am not big on Gonzales as the fifth outfielder, but he will stay around - is this his last year with us? He was very valuable last year although his bat was replacement level. This year Donaldson reduces his value as Ehire takes the infield like you have shown. If Buxton is healthy do we need a fifth outfielder and if not I suspect that Cave will go to be replaced with? Maybe La Tortuga, although the fun is no longer the reason to keep him. Finally Matt Wisler? Not sold on him. Let's see what ST brings.
  6. Too early for an A - let's see how Maeda fairs in the AL, if Homer can keep his one year success, if Hill recovers from his injury, if Pineda again comes back from suspension as a good pitcher and does not get busted again. Donaldson should be solid, Sano should work at 1B. CF should be good if Buxton is well and does not get injured again because no one else is a plus CF. Let's hope Romo continues to succeed despite his below average FB. Yup - those are the realities of the off season and they will determine the grade - right now it is an interesting incomplete.
  7. Of course it is a worse deal. I never talk about money in this world of silly finance called MLB, but the draft choice on top of Raley is a crazy addition for a team that said it was backing out of the deal with the Red So. Raley does not hurt the twins - we have Rooker, Kiriloff, Larnach ready for that position and Rooker should be next to go. Looking at their lineup poor Raley is stuck in another system that really does not need him. Their lower level rookie will be interesting to learn about. Go Maeda - you are one of us now.
  8. One less player waiting in line - Rooker, Kiriloff, Larnach and no Raley. That was good and we will not miss him. But someday we might dream of Pressley and Graterol together in our pen. I know we have a funny guy with a low ranked fastball to take Brusdar's place. Mainly I am happy this is over. Back to the starting line. Good luck Brusdar.
  9. I like his attitude already because the great ones do get to MLB in 4 years or less. I want players with talent and determination who move quickly, which brings me to Lewis who was our previous all world drafted SS with all the tools.. I know Royce is still to come, but he was our nationally ranked highly regarded prospect for a few years and I feel like he has slipped back (I am curious where he will be ranked). So how do we keep this young draft choice moving upward quickly and positively?
  10. It is all a mystery to me. The real question is what do we want? Is a Rooker or Raley worth dumping to get a Maeda? How bad do we want Maeda? What is really wrong with Graterol? If we just want to keep Graterol that is okay too. But I am puzzled by all this.
  11. Why not? Throw in a Rooker, who cares. Do we really want Maeda? I do not know the medical issues so I cannot comment on them. In the end if we keep Graterol, but lose Maeda is that a satisfactory ending?
  12. Why are we applauding the front office? We got all excited about Maeda and now we aren't. I am confused. Who is the other top ten player. If it is Rooker or Raley go ahead. I am not happy and I am not excited by the FO that got us in, but might not go to the finish line. Too much needs to be known.
  13. Wow did you have a good night - dreams are nice, but this staff has not even been assembled - two players can't even start the season in the rotation, one player might or might not be on the team depending on trade talks. One player did well for the A's and once did well for the Red's but has not sustained anything. Another is a bargain bin player who was left after everything else was swept up. I am happy with our top three, not ecstatic and the rest are all fillers until they prove otherwise. Remember how happy we were with Martin Perez? So I am not saying we have a bad rotation, I just find myself amazed at how we can use the off season to bloat our expectations.
  14. Seth, you are the expert for minor league prospects so give us your perspective. With Sano, Kepler, Rosario, Cave, Ward already having MLB time.Considering Kiriloff, Raley, Larnach ahead of him, Wallner, Urbina, Baddoo behind him what is his real chance of making the team in the next two years? Based on his fielding, hitting, and positions doesn't he look more like a trade candidate? I know about late bloomers, but in reality they are not that prolific.
  15. The old saying was draft a college player because they are almost ready to step into the lineup and that is how it should be.
  16. Cleveland wins this without a doubt. They have three ACES. The top three get the most innings and most games. Then Civale and Plutko did great last year. Lets not analyse until we get the results we want. Kluber is not fairly ranked - we do not know where he will be with health and ST, but I would take him. I am upset if Chacin beats out Dobnak - we need at least one of our rookie crop to get some exposure to MLB. Lots of mediocre veterans do not make a staff. I am pleased with our to three (even though they are well below Cleveland) because we have the bats to elevate them and Cleveland has an OF that looks like an AAAA convention.
  17. At 25 he slips in my ratings no matter what is written. The real stars are in the MLB lineups by 22/23. If he is destined to be in AAA again this year the next years rankings will have him at 26. It is time to lump him with a few others and make a trade.
  18. Wow I thought I would be the first to say K's are overrated, but already two posts have beaten my old guy take. I do like K's but I look at a guy like Nolan Ryan - he was so fun and has the Strikeout record that will stand for my lifetime, but he also has the walk record and that will also stand. He has records for low hit games and he also is extremely close to 300 losses - which would be a very exclusive club. Cy Young and Pud Galvin are the only two to cross that line and Nolan is third at 292. Young had a winning pct of 619, and 200 more wins than Nolan. After 22 years and 906 games Young had a whip of 1.13. Ryan had a winning pct of 526 and a whip of 1.247 after 27 years and 807 games. Like Puckstopper I like Whip as a measurement more than K's. I also like innings per start and today's pitchers are not going to match Ryan's 222 complete games. Oh, I forgot to give you the mantra I started by old blogs with - Wins do Matter - especially when you look at the older pitchers or a Verlander today that want the ball for the entire ball game, they take charge of their own games and earn their wins I still like DPs and fielding so a ground ball pitcher is still of value to me.
  19. Here is my take - from an old guy who has seen every financial dispute in Twins history from my fan perspective. If the Twins move now, they can say to Berrios, here is how to make up for that loss in arbitration - sign an extension. You will get security, you will make up for that blip, and we can all move forward together! As to those who keep saying he isn't an Ace - what is your point. This isn't a card game. He is our number one - tell me who is better or even close. That makes him our ace until we can sign one of the over priced free agents. Yes he has some bad stretches - all players do - that is why we have the term slump. But do not undervalue the best pitcher we have and I mean the best. No matter how well Rogers or any other RP throws, the starter is still the most valuable commodity in baseball and a lot of teams would love to have Jose.
