Who do you want the Twins to draft?
Brodin4Calder replied to Brodin4Calder's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I keep going over who I want to get and I know have my favorite batter and pitcher. Kohl Stewart and Clint Frazier. Stewart has potential to be an ace and Frazier has a great all around game including great power. -
Souhan: Time Running Out On Some Players
Brodin4Calder replied to gunnarthor's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I lost you at solo HRs? What? And what baseball comes down to is driving in runs to win games, plain and simple. If a batter has a horrible average and when he does get hits he doesnt drive in runs than that batter is not productive. You can look at all the advanced stats you want but thats not baseball, do you think they looked at those stats 40 years ago? NO? His RISP avg is horrible and his OBP, thats all the stats you need other than the regular AVG, RBI.... Plouffe is a bad 3B plain and simple, hes not gonna help a team win. -
Article: Are the Twins a .500 club?
Brodin4Calder replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins are currently in the top 10 Runs per game in the league. This is what we have been missing out while Morneau was strugling with injuries and trying to get back to himself again. Hes finaly looking like himself, hes on pace for 130RBI and has a .296AVG. Yea his power numbers are still down but that doesnt matter if hes hitting for average and driving in runs like he is. 2 MVPs in the same lineup playing their best baseball is always gonna be a good lineup. Imagine if Willingham was also producing, and Plouffe and the others struggling? -
I say we have to take Stewart. Hes got more potential than Appel and Gray but hes raw. Look at it this way, If he was as old as Gray or Appel and in college ball by that time he would be just as good or better so he would be the 1st pick this year.

Souhan: Time Running Out On Some Players
Brodin4Calder replied to gunnarthor's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I dont agree with A,B or D at all. Heres why- First off how on earth can you actualy ask what is wrong with Plouffes performance? He hasnt shown really any improvement across the board since he joined the league. Hes hitting .239 which is around his career avg and I dont have to tell you thats sad. If he were to play the same amount of games this year as he did last year he would be on pace for less HRs, RBIs, BBs, SLG, OPS.... And he didnt even do well last year, he had 55RBIs on 24HRs because he can only hit Solo HRs. In all hes just a bad player that will be gone soon anyway unless he vastly improves and gets sent to right field. Then theres Dozier, hes been pretty bad this year with the exception of a few games. I know hes barely played in the bigs so im not suggesting we call it quits on him just yet. He can be productive at the plate but his average is horrible at .226 and so is his OBP. Hes not a great fielder either. Hes just like Plouffe in the sense that they have the capability to be somewhat productive but in the end you dont want them on your team unless they are in RF batting at the bottom of the lineup. Parmelee is the only one I agree with kinda. I dont think hes being messed with but I do agree hes not gonna be on this team for long. D is the one I couldnt help but laugh and shake my head at the same time. I cant put into words how bad Worley is and how much I hate him. Pretty much every pitch he has is a meatball, I mean who doesnt want to bat against a guy thats fastest pitch is about 88mph? Thats truly sad. He doesnt have any pitches that standout, his command and control are awful, his composure is awful..... Hes just horrible. He doesnt belong anywhere above 5th in a roto. Look man I respect your opinion but open your eyes for a minute and take a look at what you said. I know its been a rough stretch for us Twins fans the last couple years but hang on. Soon you will see a real baseball player in Sano take over for Plouffe and you will wonder how you thought plouffe was decent, then you will see Gibson and Meyer come up and throw in the mid 90s and get Ks and wonder how you thought Worley was good. -
Hicks is capable of more power than you give him credit for, I would say he has a chance to be a 20-25 HR guy and maybe max out at 30 a year or 2. Although he has struggled he seems like on most of his hits he drives in runs. He could be a .270-.280 average, 15-25HR. 30SB, 80+RBI guy. Maybe even more than all that? But I dont think he ever becomes a "Great" player. He could be pretty good but dont expect annual trips to the all star game...

When Gibson, Meyer, Sano, Buxton..... are all up and on their rookie contracts still if the Twins dont spend atleast 100mil on the payroll it says they dont want to win because they would rather make more money. When all them come up we will have several years while they are making hardly any money to win a WS. This is how the Giants have won it 2 times in 3 years. They had a payroll around 110mil each time because Posey, Bumgarner and some of their other key players were making hardly any money. If you would of totaled up what their payroll was worth it would of been over 170mil last year. The Twins have to do it the same way, when our group of prospects come up we have to also spend money in FA or make some trades for top veterans. WSH is also a good example of this, they have Strasburg and Harper and of few other top players still making hardly any money which is why their payroll is around 100mil not 180mil.

Justin Morneau staying or leaving?
Brodin4Calder replied to Brodin4Calder's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Hes getting better as the year goes on, now hes on pace for 130RBI and hes batting .296avg. He has never been a big power guy but his power numbers should go up as the year goes on. People have to stop looking at advanced stats so much, all that matters is his avg is back to normal aswell as him batting runs in. -
Potential 2013 Twins Draft Pick: Sean Manaea
Brodin4Calder replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I say the Twins just take Stewart. -
The Twins neeed to take an arm they have plenty of really good young bats and bats that are in the lineup now. Pitching is the key to being a great team, I mean look at last years WS between DET and SF who both have a top 5 roto if not the 2 best. I think they should grab Stewart, hes got just as much upside as Gray and Appel. Manaea wouldnt be a bad choice either. Then we would have a pretty stacked group of pitchers in our system with a few guys that have front of the roto stuff. I wouldnt mind having a roto of Stewart, Meyer, Gibson, Diamond and Berrios or May. We would finaly have a few guys that can throw hard and get Ks.

Wow, if you havent seen the designs yet go and look them up. It looks absolutely amazing, it will be the sickest stadium in the world. Most of it is Glass including the roof. It has the tallest glass doors in the world, and the biggest glass cieling in the world. You can see through the stadium from outside, it will be sick when its snowing and you can see it through the roof and on some of the sides of the stadium. It will be like they are outdoors but with the perfect weather. I CANT WAIT FOR IT TO BE DONE

Article: Pressure is on for Twins starters
Brodin4Calder replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Anyone else excited for when our roto is Meyer, Gibson, Diamond, Berrios and May? Oh and possibly Manaea or Stewart. Our lineup right now is all guys that have a hard time throwing above 90mph and cant get Ks which lead to the ball being in play every at bat. Our lineup 2-3 years from now will have a few guys that throw hard in the mid 90s and can get Ks. We will finaly be able to look forward to watching our pitchers every game, im pretty bored of watching Worley try to throw 90mph. -
Baseball America top 100 draft prospects
Brodin4Calder replied to gunnarthor's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Yea thats how im feeling, hes got just as good of stuff as those 2 if not better. If Manaea can finish super strong I wouldnt mind us taking him. -
Potential 2013 Twins Draft Pick: Sean Manaea
Brodin4Calder replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Great news, I hope he can have a great stretch here so the Twins grab him. Hopefully his little injury was causing him to be inconsistent and now hes better. He has all the tools to be an ace, its not often you get a lefty like him. -
Article: Pressure is on for Twins starters
Brodin4Calder replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Please send Worley and Hernandez down and let Gibson and someone else get a shot. I want to see Gibson and Meyer, both can throw hard and get Ks. The Twins dont have a starter that throws above 91mph, which is truly sad. They need to get the guys up there that can get Ks so the ball isnt in play every at bat. I know its a process but Gibson and others are very close to ready. -
So...about that pitch to contact philosophy
Brodin4Calder replied to whydidnt's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
This will all change in the next few years with Gibson, Meyer, May, Berrios and if we draft a top arm in the draft all coming up and being able to get Ks. The Twins dont have a pitcher in the starting roto that averages more than 90mph on their fastball(I didnt look up the exact averages of each pitcher but I watch everygame). Thats pretty sad. Yu Darvish has I think like 6 less Ks than all of our starters combined! How sad is that? BOS has the most Ks in the league right now, they have 166 more than we do. Those 166 more Ks than us are outs where the batter doesnt put the ball in play. All of those outs dont have a chance at being an error, HR, double..... The good news is we finaly have some power arms in our system, who knows what finaly made the Twins realize that not putting the ball in play means less chances of RBIs. Oh yea BTW I was just gonna do a thread on the Twins lack of Ks then I saw you did one ha -
Alex Meyer- 5IP, 7H, 3ER, 4BB and 7Ks Not the best outing but not horrible. Hopefully he can start being really consistent and come up to the team. Cant wait for him and Gibson to be in the roto, we really need them. They can both throw hard and get strikeouts, something the Twins dont do. Currently the Twins have by far the least amount of Ks in the league. Our starters are ranked last in the league for Ks with the next team ahead of them have double ours. Thats sad, Yu Darvish has like 6 less Ks than all of our starters combined ha. If Meyer and Gibson can turn into good top of the roto pitchers and we draft Manaea or Stewart and one of them becomes a good starter for us than we would have a pretty good roto several years from now with guys that can get Ks and throw with some power.

Justin Morneau staying or leaving?
Brodin4Calder replied to Brodin4Calder's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If someone makes a great offer I would say move him too. But it has too be an amazing offer(Bundy, Walker, Fernandez, Cole), if we could get one of the very best pitching prospects I would say do it otherwise do not get rid of him. Already this season he looks like himself, his average is up and hes on pace for 120RBIs. Us Twins fans HAVE to stop having this attitude of not wanting to overpay players. Yea a player could have a down year or get hurt but to be good you have to have good players which means paying them when its time. If Morneau keeps up his pace into the deadline than we should either trade him if the offer is amazing or keep him and pay the guy. 32 is not an old baseball player, theres so many guys alot older still producing alot. -
Justin Morneau staying or leaving?
Brodin4Calder replied to Brodin4Calder's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Am I watching the same thing you ask? Morneaus average is better than .280 and he has 24 RBIs. Hes on pace for 120RBIs, is that not producing? When did 120RBIs turn into not producing, ha and you say hes getting "some" hits. I take it you dont really know baseball by what you said, but Morneau was never a huge power hitter. He had 129RBIs in 08' and only 23HRs, his career high is 34HRs. Thats not a big power guy, he drives in runs and has a good average plain and simple. And 32 isnt old at all for baseball, 35 isnt even that old. The Twins have to stop getting rid of our best players because they wanna save money, I understand that you have been sucked into their sick thinking but you can get out. Morneau has many years left of being a very productive player, yes he had injuries but everyone does. He is on pace for 120RBIs and an average over .280 and hes only getting better every game. -
Potential 2013 Twins draft pick: Kohl Stewart
Brodin4Calder replied to cmb0252's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Yep, they should of realized if were gonna be bad than lets get a really good draft pick. Imagine having Buxton, Sano, Meyer, Gibson and Appel or Gray all in our prospect group! This reminds me of the Vikings in the 12' draft. We had Ponder as a QB with the 3rd overall pick. RG3 and Luck went 1 and 2 and we were stuck with a lineman. Just because we didnt lose 1 more game we dont have a franchise QB and have no shot at winning the SB until we do. Thats the difference in 1 draft spot. And we beat WSH that season, if we didnt we would of had the 2nd pick and would of drafted RG3. Instead we beat them and they have a frachise QB for the next 10+ years while we have to keep searching. -
Who do you want the Twins to draft?
Brodin4Calder replied to Brodin4Calder's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I think if Bryant, Gray and Appel are gone the Twins should take Manaea. At one point he was considered to be the 1st overall pick until his recent struggles. Hes a big lefty that throws hard and has a good slider that is his potential knockout pitch. Theres not alot of lefties with his potential. Stewart has the stuff to be the best pitcher out of this draft. That being said theres just too many red flags and questions. Hes had some minor injuries leading to people questioning his durability. Some Experts say he might never be a 200IP starter. Another big question is if he is truly commited to baseball. Hes commited to playing Baseball and Football at TEX A&M, hes also one of the top QB prospects. So is hes more commited to playing in the MLB or NFL? I just think Manaea would be the smart choice. I wouldnt be mad if they took Stewart either. I just hope they take one of the 2. -
Thats good news. The Twins need to take a top arm this year, yea they can say theres a risk in Manaeas inconsistency and Stewarts minor injuries but they have sooo much upside. Stewart has the stuff to be as good or better than Appel and Gray but hes a 3-4 year project, and Manaea has ace stuff too and hes closer to being ready but hes been inconsistent. I just hope they take one of them or if Appel, Gray or Bryant is there take one of them.

Justin Morneau is one of the best batters in the league when healthy. In 2010 he suffered a concussion halfway through the season and didnt return. He played 81GP, 18HR, 56RBI, and .345AVG. Those are MVP type numbers that we havent seen since because he has been fighting through his concussions and other injuries. I saw last year as a year to stay healthy and return to baseball. He wasnt himself but he did stay healthy. This year he looks like he is finaly returning to himself. Hes played 32GP, 2HR, 24RBI and .283AVG. Hes looking better each game too. He just looks like the Morneau we love to watch everygame, and hes a huge reason the Twins are above .500 after 33GP. So what will the Twins do with him now that his contract is up after this year? Hes won an MVP and when Healthy hes a 100RBI+, 25HR+, .280AVG+ hitter. Hes finaly retuned to his old form and is only 31. My guess is the Twins do what the Twins do best, they will probably trade him this year. They have one of the best hitters in the league but they dont see it like that, they see money they could save. I mean they did trade the best pitcher in the league for the last 5 years at the time they traded Santana. What I think they should do is if by around all star break he has continued to put up big numbers they should keep him, its an obvious decision. Theres not alot of 100RBI+ guys with a good average in the league so if you have one you have to hold onto it. Its time for the Twins to stop cutting our best players and Payroll and start looking at winning. They shouldnt let Morneau get away, hes a special player that doesnt come around often. The Twins have probably their best group of prospects in atleast 10+ years coming up in the next year or 2 and could really do some damage with them and our veterans if they are still here.

Of course a team cant win without a winning attitude. The Wild were trying to build a winning attitude this year because they havent won in so long, by bringing in guys like Parise and Suter it helped turn the attitude from losers to winniners. The Twins are in a whole different boat. The Wild went out and got 3 annual all stars in Parise, Suter and Pominville this year and by doing so they had the highest payroll in the NHL. The Twins cant do that, the owner showed he doesnt want to spend money by cutting 40+ million the last 2 offseasons. Dont forget the Twins had a winning attitude up until 2010 when they won the division. The next season was followed by injuries which led to a horrible season, after that season the Twins cut a bunch of our best players and by doing so it led to another 60 win season. Now in the last off season the Twins cut the payroll another 20+ million which included getting rid of 2 of the Twins best players Span and Revere. I get why they traded them Especialy the Span trade where the Twins got Meyer because hes gonna be a great pitcher, I dont really like the Revere trade because Worley is a joke but May could be good. Yes the Twins are winning more this year but I believe thats because Morneau is looking like himself, Corriea has been great and the Bullpen has been awesome. How long will those final 2 keep up? Unless the Twins start spending money they will never be a consistent winning team. The only playoff baseball I see the Twins playing is if Sano, Buxton, Meyer and Gibson can all come up and play like all stars on rookie contracts.

Pitchers we didn't get - updated
Brodin4Calder replied to gunnarthor's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Do you see what your saying man? You sound like a typical Twins fan/owner. To be good you have to have good players, yes theres a risk in every FA/Draft pick but the reward is worth the risk. What you said makes me think that you believe that the Twins should never sign a good FA and thats sad. Sanchez has been consistent the last 3+ years and DET made a great move. Didnt you ever wonder why DET was just in the world series and the Twins havent been since 20+ years ago? Hmm maybe its because DET goes after top players and pays them so they can be better. They took a risk on Fielder and it payed off, they took a risk on Sanchez and now they have the best roto in baseball. You have to pay good players to win.
