  1. Last year all of the LCS teams were in the top eight of spending, not one of which came in under $110 million. The 2012 World Series featured the Tigers, with the fifth-ranked Opening Day player payroll of $132,994,000, and the Giants, with the sixth-ranked payroll of $131,980,298. For the Twins to even think about winning another WS I think they would have to be spending around 100mil with a few all star caliber players on rookie contracts. We would have to be like WSH is now, or SF last year. WSH has a payroll of 114mil, thats about as much as the Twins could spend if they decided to. The reason they are WS contenders is because of all the players they have on contracts that are way smaller than what they would get if they were FAs today. Heres a few examples: Gio Gonzalez(6mil), Jordan Zimmerman(5mil), Stephen Strasburg(4mil), Bryce Harper(2mil). They also have a few key players on large contracts but this is kinda what the Twins would have to do to become a WS champ. Even with our owner spending as much as he could we just dont make as much money as cities like NY, BOS, DET and so on. With all of the top prospects we have we could get a good enough team to make a run if they all can break out withing 2 or 3 years of eachother and we spend a little more money on the right players.
  2. The Twins are loaded up with top end prospects right now. Is it there best group ever? Sano and Buxton lead the hitters. They are both currently tearing it up in there leagues. On MLB.com they are both in the top 20 prospects this year and they are the only players in the top 20 that are under 20 years old. They both have potential to be annual all stars, Buxton has potential to be the best player in the league in his prime. The Twins roto right now is probably the worst its ever been. I dont think we have 1 starter that can throw faster than 90mph, which is really sad. That wont be for too much longer. Our top 4 pitching prospects all throw in the mid 90s. Meyer has the stuff to be a great number 1. Gibson also has the same upside but we will have to wait and see how much he progresses because of his TJ. Im really excited about Berrios, he can throw hard and has a good Curve and is capable of being a very good top of the roto guy. May is also showin some promise as a solid pitcher. The Twins also have depth in their prospect group. Oh and they have the 4th overall pick this year which they will hopefully use to get a top pitcher, Gray or Appel would be awesome but they will be gone so im hoping they can grab Manaea who has alot of potential.
  3. Garddy is one of the best managers in the game. He has been so successful for so many years. Its not his fault that the last couple seasons the owners have dumped a bunch of salaries and our best players. I mean we have gotten rid of Cuddyer, Kuble, Revere, Span, Nathan..... And who have they replaced them with? Noone, they have done nothing to help him succeed. Who have the Twins been matched up with in almost every playoff series while gardy has been the manager? Yankees, the team that has a payroll of over 200mil every year. We have gotten bad luck matching up with them. They spend so much money on so many good players, the Twins just cant do that. Its not just the twins they beat, they go far in the playoffs every year.
  4. Hes not valuable at all, this is pretty sad that we are talking about how valuable a bad player is just because he is doing well for a little stretch. This shows how long us twins fans have been suffering with bad baseball.
  5. The Twins were the powerhouse of the Central from 00'-10' which included 6 first place finishes. The payroll that year was 114mil, the highest in the central. Since that season everything has gone down hill. We have cut 42mil in payroll including Cuddyer, Kubel, Revere, Span, Nathan.... The Twins are know for dumping players when its time to pay them but not so many so quick. So why the salary dumping and player dumping? Is it because the owner died? New stadium? Yea the Twins salary was higher in 2011 and they only won 60 games but Mauer, Morneau, Thome and Span only played half the season and Kubel only played 99 games and Revere only played 117 games so as you can see that season was a mess with injuries and other random stuff. That is the season they got rid of Cuddyer, Kubel, Thome, Nathan and a couple others. And it showed the next season when they only won 60 games again. They they followed that up with getting rid of Span and Revere the next year. Now we have the worst team we have had in a long time, and the lowest payroll in the division. Just think of how much better we would be with some of these players Cuddyer, Nathan, Span, Revere, Kubel, Hunter.... And a top of the roto pitcher or 2 from FA. I mean our team has done nothing for us in the last couple years, they have let all of our good players go and got nobody to replace them. Its truly sad to see our franchise hurting this bad. Now the Twins have alot of light at the end of the tunnel. We have a few top of the line prospects that could turn us into a really good team in the next several years. Sano and Buxton have the potential to be some of the leagues best players, especialy Buxton. Meyer and Gibson are top of the roto guys that will give the twins some real talent in the rotation. Theres other good prospects too but those 4 could make or break us in the future. We also have the 4th overall pick in this years draft. It would be nice if we had a top 2 so we could grab Appel or Gray. But as you can see we do have a bright future. Which brings me to my last comment. We have seen the Twins ship out our best players for years now. When will they spend some extra money to keep our team together and build depth? I really hope that when some of our prospects become all stars and it comes time to re sign them that we keep all of them. Lets stop this trend of being the team that builds great players then ships them out.
  6. You guys dont get what im saying do you? The Twins have cut a ton of money for some reason and we suck now because of it. DET and CHI have double the payroll then us now, we have the lowest payroll in the division. No a big payroll doesnt always mean you are good. But the majority of the teams with large payrolls are good and go to the playoffs or get close. The times teams that have average payrolls and are good is when they have multiple all stars on rookie contracts. Like SF last year had a payroll around 115mil but they had Posey, Bumgarner and some other key players on rookie contracts. The Twins could of signed a top of the roto pitcher this offseason. Instead they cut a ton more salary, which included trading 2 of last seasons best players Rvere and Span. The point I was really trying to make is the Twins would be a waaay better team if we still had Cuddyer, Kubel, Hunter.... You see what im saying. There was no reason to let them get away, it all came down to the owners not wanting to spend money.
  7. From 2000 to 2010 the Twins had 6 first place finishes, the least amount of wins in that time was 79. We were always good in the regular season but our owner never spent the extra money to win in the playoffs. In 2010 the Twins won the AL Central and had a payroll of 114mil. Since then it has gone downhill fast. We have cut over 42mil in salaries including Cuddyer, Kubel, Nathan, Revere, Span... You get the idea. You know the saying "With every action there is a equal reaction" and that proved to be true with back to back 60 win seasons. Something we just arent used to, we were the big dogs of the division and now were the doormats. So why has there been so much cutting? Could it be the new stadium? Or is it because the Owner died? I wish we had some answers but I dont think we will get any. Its just sad to see us give up, I mean CLE and KC have a higher payroll than us now. In 2010 we had the highest payroll in the division at 114mil, Now we have the lowest payroll. DET and CHI have double ours and CLE and KC have more too. The MLB is all about spending money, yea the top spenders dont always win but its almost always a team around the top. The only chance we have at going far is if all of our top prospects breakout into all stars and are still on rookie contracts. We just cant compete with teams spending 160mil-220mil while we are spending 70mil. The casual fan doesnt understand the concept of team payrolls and how unfair the MLB really is. Its not our fault that Minneapolis' population is 300K while LA has like 7mil, because the more fans the more money a team can spend. It also has to do with the owner but the market is the majority factor.
  8. Man I wish there was a way the Twins could get Gray or Appel. We need a top of the line arm.
  9. Just think we might have a starting pitcher that can throw harder than 90mph soon. Ha the roto is horrible right now. Our opening day starter should be 4th or 5th in a rotation, same with the rest of our pitchers. The Twins do have a good future though. We have a couple top of the roto guys including Meyer who will be coming up and we have Sano and Buxton who could be annual all stars.
