  1. May is the most talented P on the roster and I'd want him to pitch as many innings as possible if I'm trying to win games, including the rest of this year. Santana has given up more HRs in half as many innings as May so if it was me I'd make the switch today for May to the rotation and Santanta to the pen.
  2. It's a resilient team that is fun to watch. If Santana doesn't pick it up maybe they should bump him to the pen and get May back in the rotation. Santana couldn't be used in the playoffs anyway so could behoove them to start stretching out May if they stay in the hunt.
  3. Ryan obviously knows enough about baseball to get some talent in the system (having really high draft picks helps) but not sure he has a clue about how to build a winner. Those contracts could easily hold the team back the next few years and probably will.
  4. They didn't have to "sell the farm" to improve the roster. Everyone knows that would've been stupid but there had to have been something in between selling the farm and Kevin jepsen.
  5. If Perkins ever uses Eric Fryer and excited in the same sentence again I don't think we can take anything he says seriously
  6. Technically its probably not worth burning an option but if he's mlb ready then options be damned. I'd bring him up in one last desperation move to restore some short lived hope in twins territory
  7. We'll see how "close" the Twins are at the end of the season. If they continue to lose 2 out of every 3 they're headed for another 90 losses. I hate that they punted away 50 first half wins but, ya, at this point they may as well clean house. Not sure that makes them any better on paper next year than they were going into this year tho.
  8. I think it's the white flag. Hold people's interest until football kicks off. At least the Vikings can't lose more than 1 game a week.
  9. Obviously players need to play but emotion and confidence is a big variable in sports and an athlete's performance. Terry Ryan sent a pretty big "I don't care about this team this year" message at the deadline and the team has responded accordingly. I thought maybe the FO had turned a corner with the new manager and aggressive promotions of some of the young guys this year but it's still about filling up the seats more than filling up the win column.
  10. I was excluding Hicks and Rosario because they're presently on the 25 man and assuming Buxton is the eventual CF of the future so was directing that statement at everyone left...Keplar and Arcia. Is Keplar ready next season? Arcia should be (and probably should be on the roster now) but he's obviously not a great defender. Having 3 natural CFs in the outfield probably wouldn't upset the pitching staff too much but I'd be fine getting rid of one of them for a more needed piece if they want to commit to Arcia in the OF.
  11. Why is that a great move? The Twins don't have a lot of OF depth at AA and AAA with MLB potential. I would think Rosario and Hicks' youth and the promise they've shown this year would be desirable to hold on to unless they want to sign a FA this offseason or commit to Arcia. Buxton looked like he still needs polish so you can't automatically assume he's helping the club next year either.
  12. Not really in to this trade but I do think either Arcia or Vargas would be a nice center piece for a trade before the deadline. There's not room for both of them and maybe not either of them if Sano remains at DH. Hicks stepping up his game could make him their long term solution at RF once Buxton proves himself MLB ready and Rosario plays a nice LF. Arcia's bat isn't good enough to offset that defensive talent at this point. Of course he could come back and haunt the Twins dreams if he ever gets it together with another team.
  13. Always talk on TD on how Polanco doesn't have the make up to play SS. I've never heard anything about his arm being anything less than average. Average does not mean bad, although he's not playing good defense this year it's not fair yet to say he can't stick at SS. He was rated best defensive SS in the FL State league last year.
  14. The only names I've heard so far that I'd be good w/ them trading top prospects for are Tulo and Lucroy but sounds like the Brewers want a bevy of prospects for Lucroy and the Tulo deal doesn't sound real likely either so you're probably right about your last bit. And a WS is unlikely but the first step is making the playoffs.
  15. I don't think they need 3-4 players to make the playoffs but obviously they're not going to blow up their farm system even if there are 3-4 available guys out there that they want anyway. Trading a couple prospects to give yourself a chance in the now is not necessarily going to derail the future. They've got a lot of young talent.
  16. Not understanding the "stand pat" mentality. Are the Yanks, Royals, and Angels better teams than the Twins? Sure. Are any of those teams elite? Not really. With another hot bat or 2 in their line up and a 3 man rotation who know what could happen. Prospects don't win World Series rings and you can't guarantee the opportunity will be within grasp next year. Why not try to win this year?
  17. I don't think anyone in the Twins org is considering selling the farm but giving up a prospect or 2 for established vets in the thick of a playoff hunt makes a lot of sense to me. There are no guarantees they'll be in this position next year or the year after that etc. The idea of holding back now because in theory they might be better down the road is the wrong approach IMO.
  18. If you don't have a crystal ball it's nice to have something in the cupboards since anything can happen.
  19. Remember E Santana cannot pitch in the 2015 playoffs should the Twins make it so moving Gibson is especially counter productive this year. Mad props if they can unload Nolasco in ANY sort of deal and my gut feeling is that Polanco is a better player than D Santana so reluctant to see Polanco moved at this point. So I'd probably do Berrios, Nolasco, D Santana for Tulo.
  20. I didn't like the Torii signing because I didn't think the Twins would be competitive and figured he'd only be taking valuable at bats from the youngsters. But I still felt he was an upgrade at the position and he continues to be the best OF currently in the organization. Always been a big fan so glad to see things going well for him. Unless at least 2 guys can prove they're better than him I don't see why they don't sign him for next year.
  21. If you compare Plouffe's minor league stats to Arcia's it's blatantly clear Arcia has the superior upside, as you stated. Plouffe is a slightly above average 3B who's pretty much reached his peak and has a potential legend waiting in line to replace him. Arcia is raw and could flame out but if he figures it out he's going to inflict a lot more carnage on the opposition than Plouffe has over the years. I'll take your other scenerio.
  22. Just cuz you can afford something doesn't mean you didn't overpay
  23. There was no reason to buy high on Suzuki. You can find a mediocre veteran C pretty much any off-season. I do like his toughness though and am generally happy that he's a Twin but they need to upgrade behind the dish somehow.
  24. It was cool they tried him out but he needs more polish for sure. I wouldn't advise him to change the way he plays the game though, just continue to work on doing things better. That was a pretty bad slide for a professional ball player....or anyone who does anything else for a living....
  25. So who is the future at SS, Santana or Polanco? Seems like 1 of them should make nice trade bait. I'd probably keep Polanco.
