  1. The rebuild does seem to finally be taking shape. Don't think they've taken the quickest path or they'll be competitive for at least a couple more years barring any big off season moves, but I do think the worst is over.
  2. I think these trades are pretty fair, it's nice to shed the contracts and to get something for guys that were on their way out but I don't see anyone that they've acquired as being major players in the twins revival.
  3. He ain't bad but I think the twins viewed him as the heir apparent to morneau at one point so overall he's probably been a little disappointing
  4. Parmelee was a 1st rd draft pick and very good minor league player. I think he belongs in the underwhelming category
  5. .273 would still be pretty good for a 23 yr old rookie and plenty to be excited about. It would also be good enough for the 2nd best BA on the team.
  6. I'd rather see Hicks in CF and batting 9th than Schafer getting any ABs. Hicks' OBP isn't terrible and he plays a good enough OF. Not sure he has anything to prove at the AA level. Would've liked to see either Plouffe or Escobar traded so Santana could play SS the rest of the year and whichever of the former at 3B
  7. I remember reading a couple years ago that Minier had a ton of upside but he never makes it in any of the organizational top prospect ratings. What is his projection?
  8. I think the twins have hit rock bottom but it's going to be a long climb back up. Also, think their wealth of prospects makes them more reluctant to spend money in the off season which makes sense but probably slows down the climb. Also, seeing Mauer less relevant to their future because of it. But, yes, finally seeing how some of these prospects pan out will be entertaining.
  9. Managers don't create talent but the good ones will maximize the talent on their roster. I don't think anyone ever accused Gardy of being a genius even when they were winning. The fan base has favored him because he's personable and he gets ejected from a lot of games. Not to say that the talent isn't lacking or he's a terrible manager, but I have to believe there are better baseball minds out there.
  10. I don't think the twins ever fully grasped the notion that they're rebuilding. If you have a bunch of pieces in place it makes more sense to take a flyer on veterans that are past their prime, but when you're in a rebuild it's better to error on the side of youth and future potential.
  11. I wouldn't cut him if no one wants him but I wouldn't be remotely stingy about any offers for him. He's gone at the end of the year regardless (unless they pull another Pelfrey on us) and this season's relevance is all but diminished so he's nothing more than a warm body out there with no future purpose to this team.
  12. I would agree that you move him to simply get him out of the way. I'm in the fire sale camp, the Twins need to look at what they have in their youth and respond accordingly this off season because presently, everyone is replaceable.
  13. There isn't a veteran on the roster that the Twins shouldn't be shopping around, including Joe Mauer. The heavy touted prospects in their system still have to take their lumps once they get to the MLB so by the time they are a serious contender very few guys on the current roster will be there. I think the Twins FO has been in rebuilding mode denial the past few years and there's still many more questions than answers.
  14. What's the benefit there? Several TD posters seem to think Morales looks washed up and suddenly forgot how to hit but once the rust is completely gone I don't think that will not be the case and other teams are going to want him. Playing out a meaningless season and letting these guys walk at the end of the year for a return of zero makes little sense.
  15. I sort of felt that Morales was signed as trade bait from the beginning so hopefully he starts raking and they can unload him for something good. I think the Twins will resign Suzuki but I don't think they should, Pinto can hold it down for the last leg of the season and they can sign a decent FA in the offseason for insurance. Willingham needs to go. Neutral on Dozier.
  16. Trade him. Trading veterans w/ expiring contracts is rebuilding 101. I like him but he's replaceable.
  17. I don't see their record improving much compared to the past few years but at least now there are several guys close to being ready so I agree w/ everyone else that it's time to trim the fat and fully commit to the youth movement. There is a small flicker of light far off at the end of the tunnel.
  18. It's true there isn't much depth but the fact that the young guys coming up will struggle in their 1st few seasons is exactly why it doesn't pay to keep veterans around if they can bring in anything of value. Once the "kids" start reaching their potential those same veterans will be useless. You can always backfill with free agents in the off season.
  19. Hopefully they shake things up for once before the deadline, they're still not any closer to being contenders than they were 3 years ago so w/ that and their stocked farm system there is no reason to cling to any veterans that could appeal to another team.
  20. I don't think Buxton ended his 1st year in CR, Gordon is probably off to a better start actually. Speaking of Buxton, what's up with his nagging wrist injury? He's going to fit in well around here.
  21. I don't think 2B was ever a perfect fit for Rosario anyway (Polanco is probably better suited for future 2B). He should be our LF of the future but could probably hold down CF for a season or whatever it takes until Buxton is ready. I've never seen or heard anything negative about his bat. By all accounts the kid can rake, I look forward to watching him on a regular basis.
  22. They signed the biggest FA deal in team history but they had taken $20+ million off the books by cutting bait on Morneau, Blackburn, and Doumit and their needs at pitching were so painfully obvious that the SP signings this off-season were more of a relief than a surprise. The Morales signing is a pretty genuine shocker.
  23. I also liked that Tom Powers article. It's great to see the mindset change and the shuffling roster has been entertaining. Still not a huge Twins FO fan but could be swayed by more moves condusive to scrapping useless veterans and winning.
  24. Gardy seems like a great guy but his baseball decisions seem to become more baffling each year. I wonder how much influence guys like Steinbach, Molitor, and Bruno have on him. I'd think one of those 3 along w/ Gene Glynn could make a nice improvement at manager, and being in-house options the Twins could still maintain their nice guy reputation while moving on. Gardy had a good run but I think it's time for a change.
  25. Too soon to say he won't cut it as a starter, plus there can't be much of a drop off from a starting OF on a bad team and a strong 4th OF on a world series contender. He'll get there.
