  1. Maybe when there are viable alternatives at 2B and 3B but probably not.
  2. I've been down on the Twins all off season but have to say that they've actually been enjoyable to watch so far. Apparently ignoring your glaring lack of offensive talent isn't such a bad strategy after all. Maybe they should have tried that with the starting rotation too. Expectations remain low but intrigue is up slightly.
  3. What's the deal w/ Ameries Minier (or whatever)? I thought he was supposed to be a stud at some point, or did I just make that up?
  4. Lumping Mauer in w/ those other bums is a bit blasphemous. I really hope they don't use Deduno in Swarzek's role last year, pitching in blowout loses, his stuff is too good to waste in those situations I think.
  5. While this sentiment makes a lot of sense as a fan it tends to remind me of my perception of many players on the Twins roster. Despite 3 horrible seasons we constantly hear about how bad players want to stay here. That's nice to hear as a Twins fan for the most part but where is the fire in the belly? It'd be nice to hear how bad these guys are thirsting for victory instead of how much they like playing for their buddies Gardy and Andy and how much of a class act Twins brass is. Hopefully these young guys have more competitive attitudes or we can find a manager that can bestow one to his team.
  6. At least they get the White Sox, that should help
  7. Losing Presley might not be a big deal but that could be said for about 80% of the roster. Last year he was our best CF at the end of the season and everyone is always posting about how meaningless spring training is, so it's very possible they just downgraded their already very bad offense...for Jason Kubel and Jason Bartlett...?
  8. So after Antony blasts a bunch of guys for not earning spots they grant spots to Bartlett and Kubel, who've underperformed as much, if not more, as anybody. Sure the guys they waived haven't been great but I just don't see an upside to either of these guys on the roster.
  9. Twins waived Parmelee and Presley (claimed by Astros). Looks like Bartlett might actually make this team. Genius...
  10. Put me in camp 2 and not a believer in the difference between the 50th best player in the major leagues and 300th best player is extremely slight theory. At any rate, for $8 a beer you should be able to watch a better baseball game.
  11. Last year was really the only bad year Parmelee had in the organization. In 2012 he was sent down because he wasn't getting enough playing time and he raked in AAA. Not saying he won't flame out but I'd give hime 1 more shot.
  12. I don't see what Kubel (or Bartlett even more so) brings to a team that is in full scale rebuilding mode. Even if they're "proven" and provide "veteran presence," there's no benefit to playing them over the young guys unless the Twinkies FO thinks Kubel is capable of adding another 20 wins to this team and making them a contender. With or without Kubel it's a bad offense so who cares how proven he is? If they want a good clubhouse guy that plays a sub par OF and can only hit RHP they should wait until they have a few more pieces in place.
  13. mlbtraderumors is saying Kubel and Escobar are in and Bartlett is out. Not sure what that means for Parms and Calabello. Parmelee is a former 1st rounder w/ a nice minor league resume, I'd hate to see him out and then go rake somewhere else. My feeling is that they don't want Diamond but don't want to lose him for nothing. Hopefully there's a lot of transactions this season or it doesn't appear like there'll be a lot of reasons to follow the team after May, of course most of us will for some reason.
  14. Whoa, whoa, whoa...a pennant race?
  15. Like that Gibson made it, tough to see Deduno get snubbed though. His stats over the past 2 seasons suggest he should crack this starting 5 easily plus his stuff just looks nasty, but he doesn't have the big name or the big contract. I'm sure he'll get some starts though eventually one way or another.
  16. One bad thing about having a bad team is that you don't have many valuable trade chips. Would've been nice to see at least one offensive upgrade via free agency. Last year was their worst offensive season since the mound was lowered and this years offense might be worse. What the H?
  17. Florimon's D is very good but I think elite is using the term a bit loosely. I've never heard his name in a national conversation about the best defensive players in the game and I view he and Escobar as pretty much the same player.
  18. If the Twins wanted to sign Garza or Ervin Santana I'd be all for it, Saunders and Johan Santana...not so much. Still not terribly optimistic about this staff though, it'll be hard to throw fewer innings than last year's starters but not sure there's enough improvement to correlate to more wins, especially with the projected lineup they'll be running out there.
  19. This is an example of why I think it's best to try and build a competitive team every year instead of throwing seasons and hoping things work out in the future just because you have some farm talent. Now that Sano and Rasario have had set backs will 2017 be the new year the Twins shoot for relevancy?
  20. If you only eat half of your Arbys it's fine because you weren't really meant to enjoy this meal anyway, your groceries won't expire for a long time and may just go better with something not in your cupboards yet.
  21. I like the idea of keeping the guys without options and spot starting several guys in the 5th rotation slot as well as seeing how those same guys come out of the pen. Come trade deadline take anything you can get for anyone not named Perkins or Nolasco and bring up the young guys
  22. There are arguably 6-8 spots in the batting order where the twins are lacking so who bats lead off is only the beginning of their troubles. I'd start Hicks in CF but would not bat him lead off. He's got talent just needs to catch a few breaks and build some confidence.
  23. Wish he would've been equally aggressive getting some bats in the lineup. Bottom 5 in BA and runs scored and nothing done to address that. Although I'm not sure competing in 2014 was ever a realistic goal anyway.
  24. I'd be fine with signing Arroyo so at least they have some respectable options at SP. I only see them winning about 70 games this year and I don't think Arroyo would do much to change that but still would be an improvement to the rotation.
