  1. I think it's fair for management to give the lefty a little edge against the competition just to mix up the rotation a little so long as he's not a complete turd. I don't have a problem w/ May and/or Meyer starting in AAA so long as they're the 1st ones up, which I believe would have to be the case this year.
  2. I wouldn't use Nunez in a utility role necessarily since Escobar already fills that need. I'm not going to shower the guy with praise but as a late game replacement or the occasional spot start you could certainly do worse.
  3. Not sure why all the Nunez hate. The guy is not competing for a starting position and is a much better ball player than some of the recent bench options the Twins have rostered, such as, Mastro, Florimon, Calbello, Kubel, Bartlett, and Hermann to name a few
  4. Ya, I pretty much agree with those points. All my optimism is just of the cautious variety after the past few years but I could see them finally turning a corner this year although I wouldn't put any real money down on it.
  5. Is this implying that the Twins do not have cracks? If everything breaks perfectly, sure the Twins have a relatively high ceiling but if not they also have a very low floor. Also, agree the ALC could be most competitive but not the best division in the MLB and Pelfrey was the 3rd highest paid SP on the staff last year not necessarily the 3rd best.
  6. An RBI is an RBI, it's not about credit. How many times does a runner advance on a lazy popper that finds a hole and scalding liners get robbed by great defensive plays? If there is a guy on 3rd the number 1 job of the hitter is to make sure that run scores not to try and prop up his BA w/ RISP
  7. I'm fine with either of the 3, definitely lean towards Santana until he proves he doesn't belong at the top, Mauer sees a lot of pitches and is a smart base runner despite not being a base stealer, and Dozier seems to like hitting there. Hicks has a decent OBP but just watching the guy you get the feel that he belongs at the bottom of the order, let him have some success there before considering to move him up. Maybe Rosario plays himself into the conversation...?
  8. He didn't make any progress last year, maybe even took a step back so there is no reason to rush him to the big leagues. The Twins likeliness to have another poor season creates even less incentive to bring him up unless he's absolutely dominant and they have a bunch of IFs in the OF again.
  9. I've seen enough of Chris Hermann. Santana is ok in CF but not great, hope they keep him at SS.
  10. Always been a fan of small ball but there are obvious benefits from having a few guys that can alter the course of a game with 1 swing. Seems like a good mix of speed and power coming up, I like that.
  11. I also don't have a problem with how they've handled Meyer up to this point because of the arm soreness last year and also don't have a problem with him not making the team out of ST due to business decisions, but this has to be the year and I think it will barring health setbacks. The next few years should be fun witnessing how the youth infusion pans out
  12. The focal point for every team would be SP. Mauer was great in '12 & '13 and the Twins still lost 90+ games. I get that he still has plenty of value but is he really a corner stone, especially when he misses about 40 games/season? I wouldn't advocate swapping him for anything less than a can't miss prospect or multiple high ceiling prospects and think a guy like Vargas or Sano, if he were to move to 1B, could make up for a lot of what they'd lose with Joe.
  13. Love Mauer but don't believe he is vital to the Twins resurgence at this point, wonder if the Twins would be better off paying a decent portion of his salary to play somewhere else and stock up some more youth in return...? Also, doubt his health issues suddenly disappear as he progresses through his 30's.
  14. I wouldn't be shocked to see KC fall to 4th but still think they're plenty good enough to compete for the division title. The other 4 teams in the division beating up on each other could be MN's saving grace but I still don't see anyone finishing below the Twins.
  15. I think the Twins want plans A and C, which I also like. Go with the young guys, they will not be a contender this year. Keep your infielders out of the outfield please. Rosario can play, he's had one bad year which was derailed by his ganja suspension. Hicks can at least walk his way to be somewhat respectable and plays a much better CF than Santana or Escobar.
  16. Don't think contending is in the cards yet. The division is about as good as it's been in recent memory and our best player didn't make the all-star game last year and probably never will again now that he's at 1B. This could be the bridge year where they go from terrible to half ways decent but that's about as optimistic as I'll get.
  17. Unless some of the young guys really take off this year, this is a roster chock full of mediocre players. It's fun to think they might actually be ok this year, like maybe around .500, but I can see them being bad just as easily (probably not 90+ losses bad but...). I'm excited to watch none the less.
  18. If we can voice opinions outside the organization then why cant Arcia from within? Plus, the guys 23 years old, what were some of you doing at 23? Not sure this should even be a story. Still a general fan of Nick's articles tho.
  19. Yes, swing away in the right situation, slapping the ball to the opposite field is a veteran move. He can learn that later.
  20. Players of Mauer's caliber have to take the good with the bad, the scrutiny is there in every sport all the time. The worst thing is the twins paying him that kind of money to continually be on a 90+ losing team. Either surround him with talent or cut him loose. They might've already wasted his best years.
  21. I think you can be cautiously optimistic. If your 2 best pitchers are hovering around league average that leaves 3 spots filled with guys that are below average. Hopefully Nolasco isn't as bad as he's looked this year, hopefully May and Meyer live up to the hype, and hopefully Milone can be average. Pelfrey is toast. Gibson looks like part of the future and maybe they can extend Hughes if he keeps it going because he could be more useful in 3 or 4 years than he will be over the next 2 unless they sign a true ace to anchor the rotation.
  22. The rebuild does seem to finally be taking shape. Don't think they've taken the quickest path or they'll be competitive for at least a couple more years barring any big off season moves, but I do think the worst is over.
  23. I think these trades are pretty fair, it's nice to shed the contracts and to get something for guys that were on their way out but I don't see anyone that they've acquired as being major players in the twins revival.
  24. He ain't bad but I think the twins viewed him as the heir apparent to morneau at one point so overall he's probably been a little disappointing
  25. Parmelee was a 1st rd draft pick and very good minor league player. I think he belongs in the underwhelming category
