  1. Hey, wow, sorry I missed/forgot he was on your list! And with all that time missed it makes sense for him to get some time in the AFL. Could it also be a test to see if he's ready for AA or AAA?
  2. When the AFL teams are announced prospect watchers get to see guys they have been following in the minors play against more elite competition. Suddenly we have Tanner English thrown in the mix and he is one hardly any of us have talked about. So he is a 23 yr old 11th round 2014 draftee and a CF. He played most of the year in high A then skipped AA and finished the season in Rochester. I want to know more! Anyone got anything for me? Seth, if he is in the AFL, how can he not be a top 50 guy? Who is this kid?
  3. Ok, I'm answering my own question after looking up Jeremy's Roster and Payroll page: Tovar, Meneses, Reynaldo and Jairo Rodriguez, Paulino and Greenwood are all minor league free agents after the World Series if they do not re-sign or are not on the 40 man roster and I doubt any are placed on the 40 man.
  4. Is Tovar signed with the Twins next year or is he a free agent? I assume free agent but you did not say that despite stating Bencomo was to be a free agent and refreshing us on Goodrum. I guess that question could be a whole new MiLB thread...
  5. I have been big on Wade since he was drafted. I am not sure what kind of MLB outfielder he will make but he has done nothing but exceed expectations so far. I hope to see him appear first at Target field late in the 2018 season.
  6. ABW Granite Wade Garver
  7. Lol, Exactly what I actually wanted but how often do we get what we want? I still believe he is going to be a super star recognised around the league. His defense alone will make him an ESPN staple on top defensive plays of the week.
  8. It has been stated previously in other places that Falvey is restricted from contact with his new team until his team is eliminated or wins the WS. He is not in the discussions. This article mentions MLB rules regarding his status and that he is restricted by the commissioners office. http://www.startribune.com/ongoing-success-for-cleveland-derek-falvey-creates-awkward-gap-for-twins-decisions/397352561/
  9. 2016 Wrap up: In his first year of affiliated baseball, Christian Ibarra, undrafted out of college, was able to play well enough to hold his own in low A and even make a 21 game appearance in high A. CR: 125 at bats, 264/374/376 (750 OPS) with 6 doubles, a triple and 2 homers. FM: 79 at bats, 203/267/329 (597 OPS) with 5 doubles, a triple and a homer. Defensively, Ibarra played ONLY at 3B putting in a total of 461.2 innings. He committed 7 errors on 125 total chances and finished the season with a combined 944 FPCT. 2017 Outlook Ibarra will probably spend the majority of the season at high A but given his limited exposure to affiliated ball, he may even begin the year in CR. Given that he is already 24, I would be surprised if they did not push him straight to FM and even try to push farther if he has success the first half of next season.
  10. Jermaine Palacios had a rough season after what most prospect watchers thought was a breakout season in two levels of Rookie Ball last year. His season totals flatlined at 222/276/287 for an OPS 375 points lower than last year. Just when he looked to be busting out of the first half season slump, he broke his hand and that was that as they would say. The most frustrating part was that he hit .357 in 42 at bats over the last 10 games before breaking that hand. Palacios still made Seth's preliminary top 50 coming in at #32 but this season did not help his stock any. He won't turn 21 until July 19th next summer so there is still plenty of time and hope. 2017 Forecast: Palacios will surely be sent back to Cedar Rapids which will give us a chance to drive down and see him. I am predicting that he starts out next season much hotter than he began this year and am hoping he forces a mid season promotion though the more likely scenario is a promotion later in the season than earlier.
  11. Ok so my previous post may have looked like a partial wrap up but it wasn't so here we go. Arraez finished the year with an 830 OPS built on the back of a high batting average (347) and lots of doubles. 31 doubles in fact which bumped his slugging up to 444. Luis had 31 walks to offset his 51 K's over 475 at bats.720 out of the 752 innings he spent in the field was at 2B making the other 32 innings pretty irrelevant. He had a 976 FPCT at 2nd committing 9 of his 10 errors there. 9 errors in 381 chances isn't too shabby. Arraez also made Seth's preliminary top 50 prospects coming in at #19. This may seem high until you realize his age is also 19. Outlook for 2017 Arraez surely will spend a good portion of next year with Fort Meyers. I felt he could have been moved up mid-season and might feel the same way next year by the end of June but since he turns only 20 this coming April, there isn't any reason to rush him. He will probably spend all of next year in High A.
  12. Nelson finished the season hitting 300/374/381 in 333 at bats all with Cedar Rapids. He only hit two home runs to go with 3 triples and 15 doubles so there has been very limited power for a corner infielder so far which going forward will continue to limit his prospect status unless that side of his game comes around. He is listed at 6'3" so there is room on the frame. At 21 years old, there is also time. Molina appeared on Seth's preliminary top 50 prospects coming in at #30. Nelson also is gaining publicity for his volunteerism winning the Harmon Killebrew award http://twinsdaily.com/articles.html/_/minnesota-twins-news/minnesota-twins-minor-leagues/killebrew-award-winner-nelson-molina-cedar-rapids-r5153 Projecting 2017 Having spent a successful season in Low A, it is time for him to move up to Fort Meyers. If he is going to develop into much of a prospect he needs to either develop some power at third or improve his defense at SS. Molina spent 126 out of 702.1 innings at short this year with a 917 FPCT and 5 errors in 60 chances. I don't see the SS thing panning out so I hope he bulks up this off season and learns to drive the ball more while keeping that BA up.
  13. In other news, it has been 17 days since the Twins lost a game.
  14. Guzman was able to make a return to the fired before the end of the year. Unfortunately he did not hit very well in that return. His last 10 games played he hit .154 with 4 hits and 9 walks in 35 plate appearances. It's a little interesting when the stats show twice as many runs scored than hits but that was how He finished those last 10. His final CR line: 182/291/193 for a whopping 484 OPS with only 88 at bats in low A. Guzman also had 35 at bats in the GCL and 18 in Elizabethton where he was 200/282/200 and 333/400/389 respectively raising his overall combined slash to 206/302/220. 2017 Outlook Due to injuries, we have to look at this as a lost season for Guzman. He will be repeating Low A. I look for Guzman to have a rebound season next year and start getting some lost prospect love back.
  15. 2016 Review Tovar had his worst hitting year since he was 17 and in the VSL. After coming over from the Mets organization, He hit a disappointing 249/301/327. He added 29 stolen bases in 38 attempts. He does not have the range or power to be much more than his 2015 line 283/327/356, but this article describes and shows his higgh baseball IQ. https://gradingonthecurve.com/2015/05/02/is-wilfredo-tovar-mets-answer-at-shortstop/ 2017 Outlook Who knows whether Tovar sticks with our organization or not. If he is not hitting, he will not get another chance at the Majors and whatever organization he ends up in, he belongs in AAA for now. His only hope is to return to his 2015 form and get a shot as a slap hitting, base stealing, leadoff hitter that just keeps making the plays despite not looking the part.
  16. Paulino spent the entire season betweenn AA and AAA without getting put on the DL. In two separate AA stints he spent a total of 22 days in Chattanooga. In Rochester he was given 274.1 innings behind the dish and hit 232/310/283 in a whopping 99 at bats. In Chattanooga he was given 17 innings behind the dish and hit 200/333/200 in 10 at bats. Yup, thats it! 109 At Bats in a whole season. 2017 Outlook Paulino is being used as organizational filler at AA and AAA behind those considered Catching Prospects. At age 27 for the majority of next season, Paulino has seen his prospect days pass by him. If he is back in our organization next year, he has resigned himself to that fact. If not, he will be trying to catch on with another organization.
  17. He played almost the entire season at AA last year, has moved up a level every year and had his career best numbers since the DSL in AA this past season. The only listed Rochester SS is Wilfredo Tovar and Beresford shouldn't be a reason either. There is no one there to prevent a move up, his glove will play there, and you don't want him blocking Gordon. Moving him off SS destroys 2/3 of his value so that's not a good move. He has to move up.
  18. I don't think Vielma will be in AA with Gordon. Vielma is on track to make his MLB debut in 2017. With that being the case and his advanced defense, there is no reason to have him splitting time with Gordon. I'm confident he will be in Rochester to start the 2017 season.
  19. If you could translate all the stolen bases into his OPS, you would be seeing more people jumping on the Granite bandwagon.
  20. I understand what you're saying and I'm not trying to be arguementive, but I just don't see many names that could stick for a year on a 25 man roster. I'm also counting lots that will be removed: Albers, Dean, Milone, Suzuki, Plouffe, Beresford, Schafer, and D. Santana would make room for Viielma, Garver, Palka, Jorge, Romero, and Granite to be added plus the return of Hughes and Perkins. Add a Catcher, cut Centeno. Add a pitcher, cut one of several relievers that are borderline cut already. There's plenty of room for improvement by subtraction. As I said previously, It will be interesting to see who is added but I don't see a problematic roster crunch.
  21. Oh, and English and/or Granite replace Grossman and/or Santana
  22. Agree: Albers, Dean, Milone, Suzuki Not sure: Landa, R. Rosario, Boshers Disagree: O'Rourke- Potential if used correctly Melotakis- I think the kid is gonna be good Walker- Closer to not sure because of Palka but if he learns to control the strike zone, he could be a masher! Santiago- The kid walks a lot, but he manages the ERA and wins more than he loses even on bad teams. Not an Ace but he is a consistent #3-#4 type pitcher. (When he ignores our coaches at least) *We also don't need that many spots open* You missed/forgot: Plouffe
  23. I expected to see Granite in AAA to start next year until I realized English is there. What are the odds Grossman is gone and English or Granite is the fourth OF option?
  24. Kihles final numbers: 259/352/370 in FM after 108 at bats. 259/318/316 in CR after 193 at bats. Hey, the kid is consistent! I expect to see Kihle begin next season back in Fort Meyers. He is not putting up any eye opening numbers but he is providing a solid glove and consistent middle of the road production. I predict similar to slightly better numbers with a midseason promotion to Chatanooga.
  25. Cavaness hit a mere 201/294/237 for an unassuming 532 OPS at Cedar Rapids in 219 at bats. He has shown a glove but if that bat does not come around next year, he may not be on the team long after the draft. I expect to see Cavaness repeat low A.
