  1. I'm willing to put up with Santana's growing pains...he's playing his natural position and he's young. Although I'm hoping Molitor will correct the loafing (giving up on the ball that went under Dozier's glove) It's the Torii Hunter misplays that drive me nuts...
  2. May produced a number of weak grounders and flies....most of which were booted/dropped by various Twins.
  3. May didn't allow those, the "Defense" did.
  4. How bad have the Twins become when our fans would be happy with .230 and 10 homers from the starting right fielder?
  5. Hunter was signed to mentor Hicks, right? Maybe he should be doing that in Rochester. Hunter and Arcia would have to hit .400 to make up for the defensive miscues.
  6. It's many years since the Twins played elite defense.
  7. How come no error on the Dozier/Santana play?Home cookin'? Which bad play are you referring to? The grounder neither player fielded or the botched double play where they failed to get anyone out?
  8. The Twin's D is brutal....big contrast with the Royals.
  9. That was often the case under Gardenhire. I don't think we should assume it will be under Molitor. But as the article concludes, that remains to be seen. Perhaps Gardy had no say on who made up his roster. Molitor may be in the same boat. I'm sure they get to express their opinion but that doesn't mean their boss is paying much attention to it.
  10. Watched the first couple innings of the Monday night Boston game.....what a heaping pile of crap. And why, why, game after game, do our players (aside from Vargas) look like sticks beside the opponents? Is Mauer on the John Travolta work out program? He's a corner infielder now, it's time to hit the weights and make an impact.
  11. The only argument for a one year signing of a Masterson is it may provide enough improvement in the W/L record that the Twins can attract a front-line starter in 2016, when the top prospects have (hopefully) shown signs the Twins are ready to contend in 2017/18.
  12. I have no idea which of the three will make the best manager, but I'd like to see the Twins get back to playing strong fundamental baseball. A recent article included a quote from an ex-twin during the WS era, something to the effect of "we knew when we took the field we would be fundamentally better than the opponent". That has not been the case for a long time, and I'd say the fundamentals have deteriorated as long as Gardenhire has been managing. Defense, base running, pitching....we are bested at fundamentals on a regular basis. We know the ownership isn't going to outspend anybody...the only hope is to play better baseball. If we don't improve on the basics we're doomed to mediocrity.
  13. "Actually all OBP is created equally." No. Runner on second or third....is a walk the same as a hit?
  14. I'm not sure "tail gait" and "tail gate" mean the same thing....and I'm afraid to ask what you were doing with your folks...
  15. As someone commented earlier, the Twins fundamentals have gone progressively downhill ever since TK left. That's my number one beef with Gardenhire, his toleration of poor play (defense, basepaths) and failure to hold players accountable. IMO Mauer needs to hit the weight room. I recall early in his career Torii Hunter was quoted as saying "wait till he get's his man muscles". Mauer never did.
  16. They rushed Vargas and Santana from AA to the majors. What does it say about the ML roster and staff that the two players they "rushed" outplayed the incumbents? You're making his point. How many more of our MiL prospects could put up better numbers given the opportunity? My biggest gripe with Gardy is the toleration of bad play. He talks about accountability but keeps putting up with base-running gaffes and boneheaded play that TK wouldn't tolerate. I loved watching the TK era Twins play the game. Gardy's bunch make me cringe.
  17. That's kind of my point. If a guy isn't good enough to hold a single position the ability to play marginally at three or four doesn't help. I get the benefit of having an option or two on the bench; you don't need 5 or 6 of them on the roster and you don't need half your AAA roster shuffling positions in hopes of making major league players out of AAAA filler. If the guy can't do a major league job it's time to dump him and bring the next guy up, not waste another season or two trying to turn chicken byproducts into chicken salad.
  18. We keep bringing up prospects who can't defend a position. I also continue to read minor league reports of players playing C, OF, 1B in the space of a week. Do other organizations shuffle their prospects from position to position? I'd like to think by the time you've promoted a prospect to AAA you'd figured out where he fits on D. An earlier poster pointed out that repetition is key to improvement. Constantly changing position with these guys cannot be helping their development.
  19. Is Aaron Hicks still batting right-handed exclusively?
  20. Is there any story behind the Eades performances? Have the Twins drastically changed his mechanics, or asked him to keep throwing a new pitch he hasn't mastered? Is he having physical problems? Or did our scouts just whiff on that pick?
  21. I think we've just found our replacement for Gardy.
  22. You miss my point; his position has changed. Will his game change? He's now filling a run-producing position with little defensive value.
  23. Agreed. His apologists have insisted for years that we have to measure his value by his position, he "hits well for a catcher" and the complete lack of HR power is excused. We'll see if that's still the refrain by the end of the year. This is a team sport, and this team needs more from their highest paid player than a guy who leads the league in being LOB. I think he can be a power player if he wants to, he just needs to recognize his role has changed and this team needs more.
  24. [quote name= Its an equally successful approach. Just, not very entertaining.[/quote] Depends upon your definition of success. With the lineup we've run out there the last few years it's a recipe for stats, not wins. Mauer reminds me of Warren Moon. Tons of talent, but when your team needs a fire lit under it he's hanging his head on the end of the bench. QB is obviously more of a leadership position than "highest paid player", but that shot of Warren sitting quietly alone when the team needed a spark has never left me.
