    ...and you didn't even have the experience of being one of several dozen guys all using a long metal trough at the same time. When you are 8 years old that is quite an experience. It does get everybody out the door and back to the game in a timely manner, though, I'll say that.

    Fire Gardy!!!! Fire Rick Anderson!!!! Oh wait. I thought May did a pretty good job today, but his infield and his outfield let him down. Suzuki caught most of the pitches, anyway.

    Joe West. When will our national nightmare end? I would like to go see Joe West umpire in an opposing team's park, and then yell at him the whole game every time he makes a call against the home team (even if it's correct). That could give the Twins a real advantage.

    Traffic isn't that bad around the Cell, although they may actually have a decent crowd today. Everything else, however, is pretty bad there.

    My fearless AL Central forecast was that the Tigers would collapse. In my defense, that was based on expected injuries. They look pretty good right now, especially when you don't have (I mean "get") to face Verlander (the new version). I still think they are going to have too many people on the DL for too long. Hopefully we don't play them again until that happens. Milone v. Noesi...set your DVRs, you aren't going to want to miss one exciting moment!

    Steinbrenner hired someone described as a gambler to investigate Dave Winfield, after Winfield sued the Yankees for breach of contract. Fay Vincent wanted to suspend him for 2 years, Steinbrenner negotiated an agreement to step away from the Yankees instead. I've never been sure how much of the suspension was related to the actual investigation, vs. the use of a gambler, vs. just wanting to get rid of Steinbrenner for various reasons, but your point stands in any case. This wasn't long after he got his felony conviction, called Reggie a liar, apparently put a fake cast on his hand during the World Series and claimed two Dodger fans had attacked him, etc. So anyway, I agree with your point- if contracts are to be voided, the process needs to be extremely clear and narrowly focused.

    1. I love baseball. I'm excited for the season. No matter what anyone says. Hell, I listened to most of the games back when our pitchers were people like Brad Havens, Pete Filson, and Frankie Rodriguez. You are all welcome to your own opinions, and I actually share some of them, but you can't wreck the Twins for me, no matter how hard you try. 2. I feel sorry for Pinto. And if I were pitching for the Twins, Adam Jones would have left his next at-bat to get his ribs taped up. Sorry, that's how it should work. No head-hunting, no cheap shot on the bases, no "unwritten rules", just something to think about next time you consider having a long, looping follow-through. 3. I love baseball. Go Twins!!!

    Yeah, I posted yesterday that I hoped all three threw well. Wanted a tough choice. Given this week's results now I want May to throw well and make it an easy choice.

    You had me at "Justified". Couldn't believe last night's episode. If Dozier becomes the Justified of second basemen he'll be worth 4x that new contract. Nice article.

    My recollection is that Dennis Martinez got traded for nothing, decided it was time to face up to a problem. He gave up drinking and became a much better pitcher. I'm sure the Orioles wished he had figured it out sooner rather than later.

    Wacha has had 28 starts so far. If that's all they get, they've succeeded as a team? I don't think I'd personally consider blowing a guy's arm out after 28 starts (and a 9-7 record) to be a team success.

    RZR is the fraction of balls converted into outs, right? That could be accounted for by great speed or great positioning. I don't think anyone's fooled about Hardy's speed.

    Yeah, exactly. When Hardy joined the Twins, I was disappointed in his lack of range. Then I noticed he happened to get a lot of balls hit to him, and his throws tended to hit Morneau in the chest, as compared to all the diving and stretching Justin had done previously. Give me the good arm and positioning every time.
