  1. I am not sure this comment was necessary.
  2. If Mauer was a better clubhouse leader, Arcia would be playing better and would not need a day off. Quit trying to blame Arcia for Mauer's lack of leadership.
  3. I say this as a Mauer homer. I don't think this is a slump he is going to magically break. I think he is working through things that are going to take awhile with one step forward two steps backward moments. I do think he has probably hit the bottom and is slowly starting to come out of it (defensively as well), but I don't think there is going to be an instant break-through. I do think once he does get things turned around again, it will help him deal with problems more quickly in the future. Of course I would not mind being wrong and that this game sparks a 20 game hitting streak and a .340 average for the rest of the year.
  4. Can we really afford to lose Willingham's premier defensive prowess or mess with the great outfield chemsitry even for a game? This probably falls in the obvious category, but I remember hearng someone who has been to a lot of the games and seen Mauer play in person, say he can tell when Mauer has to consciously think about how to respond to a play and how much smoother it is when he can just react off of his instincts. He thought, while he still has a way to go, more of his first base skills are starting to become more reflexive and that it will come, but it just won't be that instant perfection of a switch people just took for granted would happen. I do agree that it is very possible some of the stiffness in motion is due to the back and knees being in a crouch for ten years (combined with having to reprogram his mindset as someone mentioned earlier). Since I have to listen to most of the games on the radio, it is hard for me to judge things like this and have to rely on things like the Twins Daily game threads to get a better picture (although that often leads to picturing things I would rather not).
  5. To be fair, the Target Field fans have booed a player named Joe when he has not played up to his normal standards.
  6. I say go for the mutt - go to the human society type places and see which dog speaks to you (unless you need a hunting dog, or if there is a breed you have always really wanted).
  7. The dog's reaction made her wonder about the product and she stopped using it. My dog is in the woods a fair amount, but she has a strange almost horse-like texture to her coat, and she rarely ever has any tics. Me on the other hand...
  8. My Mom's dog goes crazy the day she is front lined -- she gets all wild eyed and a bit spastic. My vet is pretty good about mentioning services [dental cleaning etc] briefly, but not pushing anything. The dog is always excited when she sees the building, because she knows it means peanut butter and a bunch of people fawning over her plus she loves all of the scents of the other dogs.
  9. I wonder if the Twins (or really any MN team) could get a restraining order against you from appearing within a half a mile from any of their games. Would be worth investigating.
  10. I had those glasses. Looking back, not being considered cool in junior high really is not that much of a mystery.
  11. Because when you combine "I am Brian" with ending of Spartucus it can only lead to this:
  12. You do know how that ends don't you?
  13. I think you should just focus on whoever the Twins are playing. You do not want to dilute your great anti-hex powers. They are a gift and should be used wisely.
  14. Sometimes you can find a way to blame Anderson.
  15. So Auto-correct out of control probably explains all the game thread posts I have read that don't quite make sense or seem to be off on a tangent.
  16. I obviously feel the worst for Kubel - but that has to be an incredibly tough part of the job to tell someone they are being let go - knowing that often there is a good chance they are basically done for good - esp. when you have a long history with that person and they have done a lot for you in the past. It is one thing to let someone go from a regular company where you know they have a better chance of finding something else, but in these cases a lot of time you are telling the player there is a good chance their dream is over and they may never play at this level again.
  17. I am thinking there are not many I would want to have a non-baseball conversation with either.
  18. He was probably just trying to improve his appearance and correct his overbite.
  19. I thought the Yankees comment was interesting as well. Listening to some of Perkin's interviews, I am kind of under the impression he and Joe have gotten a little closer the last few years (last winter he and Joe built a hockey rink in Joe's backyard etc), I suspect he has a little influence in this sort of thing.
  20. I was looking for some pictures of my Dad for a celebration, and going through all the Christmas and birthday etc. celebrations, if you went by the pictures it was as if he did not exist (if my mom took a picture - everyone pretty much came out headless). I am pretty sure the concept and the word "selfie" would have been pretty incomprehensible to him.
  21. Jack Benny's stuff has actually aged pretty well -- even some of his radio stuff. Our kitchen light used to knock out the radio -- which was why it was exciting when we finally got FM radios for Christmas one year. I am not quite as old as it sounds, my parents were always slow on updating technology. I don't think we had a cassette player until the 80s. We had a phonograph that you could fold up like a suit case and move from room to room. I remember listening to old Jack Benny records when we came to Minnesota in our covered wagon.
  22. I would have as well -- but the screen refresh time would have been slow on the Apple IIE or the Commadore -- and the connection would have been dial-up -- meaning a rotary phone.
  23. In a way it is impressive how the game threads manage to find new diversions every night. There are some posters quite talented in finding new tangents that normal people could never dream up.
  24. Hopefully someone will not go too far and think a clip from TBS After Dark (TM some other poster) is better suited to this crowd.
