  1. There are three certainties in life, death, taxes, and the Twins woes can always be traced back to Mauer.
  2. When I heard the average on the radio it really struck home how less than ideal his average is. It is almost surreally low. I am beginning to think his valued defensive skills might not be enough to justify his less than optimum offense...
  3. I heard Gardy interviewed on his weekly radio show on Sunday saying he wanted this. Later on the pregame show, they were interviewing Terry Ryan and mentioned this. Ryan basically implied that he did not think a roster change like that was necessary. I thought it was a little odd at the time, because it seemed like Ryan seemed almost dismissive of Gardy when saying he did not think it was necessary.
  4. I suppose you can't rush genius, or something...
  5. For people who can't decide: http://tunafishdiscrepancy.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/bunnyrhinorgb.jpg http://ih2.redbubble.net/image.5327459.6364/flat,550x550,075,f.jpg
  6. Don't underestimate someone's level of bad ass just because they "appear" cuddly. [video=youtube;cCI18qAoKq4] http://www.amalah.com/.a/6a00d83451c28269e20134853c9ada970c-800wi
  7. If I remember correctly, that is the seventh ring of hell. Dante was really a visionary in his writing.
  8. I think I had forgotten what a 1-2-3 9th felt like that. It just did not seem right with no one in scoring position. I know this has been said 80,000 times, but even though the record is similar to this time last year, it feels different. It helps to play the White Sox for four games. If we somehow are in the race later in the year, I do not think it will be against them (unless it is race to stay out of the cellar). Gladden really likes to bring up when the player's uniform is dirty.
  9. I was just thinking I don't know if I could be a pro catcher for all of the hits they take (plus I have no skills). I know Zuke has been on fire, but I wonder if Gardy needs to give him more time off from behind the plate.
  10. I am hoping someday they find the lost written sources of baseball's unwritten rules.
  11. I always like watching the crowd in old game clips. One thing that struck me when watching the Ken Burns series is how everyone was wearing shirt and ties through the 1960s. That picture of RiverBrian's grandfather might give me nightmares tonight. No offense HotRiverBrian.
  12. When I was in high school this was the most common poster girls had up in their locker. I am sure some guys would have as well, but it was not as open of a time. I need to pretend the last inning did not happen.
  13. And this is the first post I see of today's game thread ... It might be a good day just to rely on the radio.
  14. Good point. I think the all-star game is probably an exacerbating factor. He mentioned a number of times last year how cool it would be to play at home in an all-star game. While his subpar play has got to bother him largely just for how it effects the team, it had to have been on his mind the longer he played poorly the greater the chance of a once a life time opportunity (playing an all-star game at home) goes down the drain. He is already doing ambassador duties, so it not something he can just pretend is not happening. He has been an elite player who undoubtedly has the ego of an elite player (not meant as a slam). It has to be a bitter pill to swallow that he is just going to be a figurehead and has to go around being host to players who made the team when he did not. Hopefully this will all be past-tense speculation sometime relatively soon. There are so many different factors in play (head - back - defensive shifts - aging - all-star game - family life - bad luck - not changing - changing too much - position change - staying up late at night reading Twins Daily and posting as RiverBrian) that we will probably never really know what the real story is. That joker cat is creepy.
  15. Perk planned that - he just likes to bring some drama into the game. It is all part of his showmanship. (that was stressful)
  16. Except I want to change things for the double-play now rather than after the tying run.
  17. Had an event I had to go to - left my car and Corriea had just hit someone for the second Chicago score. I was glad to avoid what I assumed was going to be an epic meltdown. After the event was over, reluctantly turned the game back on -- lucky I did not get into an accident when I discovered Correa was still pitching in the sixth and the Twins were leading 4 to 2. Driving home I was thinking - can't wait to get home and see what the TD board has to say. It was then I realized I might have some mental health issues and might need to seek outside help.
  18. I had tickets last night, and normally don't go early to get the give-aways, but wanted this one. Plus (and I should probably have my TD membership revoked for this) it was only my second time at Target Field and I wanted to walk around before the game. I don't think I need to go a third time to make my decision that Target Field is a bit of an improvement over the Dome. I need to get there more often.
  19. I am guessing that has been suggested in complete seriousness and sincerity in the Strib comments (although I guess if anyone would know about needing institutionalization -- it would be some posters there).
  20. I probably should not have been making light of concussion symptoms. I suspect there are a few people on this board who have had a few due to the number of ex-jocks. I am pretty sure I had one, but it was due to epic clumsiness in an non-athletic scene rather than some game winning feat.
  21. I made the mistake of not mowing the lawn last Friday before the beginning of all this rain. By the time I can mow, it is going to be ugly with a lot of stopping to clear the clogged grass. Since it Chicago and not someone we play once a year, I hope they won't drag it out too long and then decide to postpone after making everyone wait.
  22. I don't remember that at all - I wonder if they did mix up one M for the other. Hmmm - memory a little cloudy. Did you play catcher or goalie in the past or taken any big hits to the head? It seemed like Joe took a ton of foul tips off the mask the last couple of years. I remember thinking earlier in the season we were lucky he had never been diagnosed with a concussion (although in reality, there were probably a few that went undiagnoised).
  23. I have heard a few players say he is very competitive and more intense during games and behind the scenes than his public persona suggests. I think he has a passion for the game. If he was hitting .285 I would say it could be age or defensive shifts etc., but the drop is just too much not to think something else is going wrong. Esp., since he was having a good year prior to the concussion and maybe his best year defensively in years. It just seems to much of a coincidence to not at least consider that the concussion is not effecting things. He took the hit in August and was feeling symptoms well into November. Even if he is not feeling overt symptoms now, it is certainly feasible to think his reflexes and/or depth perception are still not quite what they were before (esp. after watching Justin three years after his concussion still struggling - and to a lesser extent, Span never seemed quite the same). I have also heard enough people say there is something visibly different when watching his at bats to make me think there is something physical going on.
  24. Re Mauer - I am sure there is more going on behind the scenes, but whenever I hear anyone in the Twins organzation talk about the situation they seem to be crossing their fingers and closing their eyes and doing their best to convince themselves there is nothing seriously wrong and the situation will soon right itself. It almost seems that they are going with if we remain in denial and ignore the situation and do nothing - it will go away and fix itself. Hopefully they are doing more behind the scenes.
  25. What did some gorilla do to you to deserve that comment?
