  1. I'm not saying there isn't a change in philosophy though I think it's too early to say, but part of this is that we haven't typically had a roster with so many bad to mediocre players on it. Its easier to call up youngsters with this roster then it was with some of our better rosters in the mid to late 2000's.
  2. I was excited to see this movie until I saw Whitlock's comments on it. He says its basically a Disney movie with the N word. No substance or depth. I'm still going to see it, but that's disappointing if true, Jackie Robinson deserves better than that.
  3. If he's only staying up for 3 days (not that we know that for sure at this point), then his service time isnt going to be affected much by this.
  4. If Arcia can play CF at even a non embarrassing level, he should. Doumit has a track record. If he's healthy, he's going to hit okay. His bat will come around.
  5. You want to talk about attitude, look at Worley's comments after the Mets game. Go ahead and rip me, I don't give a crap, but I was disgusted by those comments. This guy has no accountability.
  6. Worley had one good season, and one bad season, IN THE NL. His good season was fairly fluky when you look at the secondary numbers. Get back to me at the end of the year and see where his numbers are. It's not about Hendriks for me. Send them both down if you want, thats fine. This isn't defending Hendriks. This team should be sending the message that roster spots have to be earned. We are both entitled to our opinons, but in mine 1 good (but somewhat fluky) season in the NL is not enough of a track record to say that a guy is guaranteed a roster spot no matter what.
  7. He said he's blocked if they are not willing to try him in CF.
  8. They want him to be consistent like Worley and Pelfrey.
  9. Baxendale is pretty old for his level.
  10. LOL, yeah that's what I meant. The Ford/Ruth was an extreme example to make my point. Mauer/Posey defensive numbers are far enough apart that it shouldn't take scouting reports to make a decision. Not a Ford/Ruth margin, but maybe a Pujols/Howard margin.
  11. I meant the blaming the victim aspect of it. Not the actual act itself. If you can't understand that is what I meant by it, then you are just trying to be outraged.
  12. One bad outing??? Worley has had: 1 awful outing, 1 bad outing, and 1 mediocre outing. So yeah, if we are counting the NYM start as awful or terrible instead of "bad" then I guess he's only had one bad start. I find it absolutely hilarious the way you discribe Hendriks: "didn't get past the fifth, used an inordinate amount of pitches classified as strikes, and couldn't put people away." Worley has pitched 12 innings in 3 starts, and has given up 25 hits in those 12 innings. Everything you can say about Hendriks can be said 10 fold about Worley. This organization is never going to turn it around as long as they continue to give full scholarships to players who have never done anything to deserve them. Its one think for a roster spot to be guaranteed for a guy like Mauer or Willingham or Perkins, its laughable that Worley has done anything whatsoever to guarantee a roster spot. The guy cannot pitch in the AL. After his 1 inning beat down against the Mets, he basically said he thought he pitched great but got unlucky. What a f'ing joke. This guy has no accountability, and should have been sent down for those comments alone. Its funny that everyone giving Worley a free pass because of "weather conditions" arent giving Hendriks props for pitching pretty well in similar, if not worse weather conditions.
  13. Worley is on a scholarship. I could see them cutting ties with Pelfrey if he doesnt improve though.
  14. You said, you ALWAYS balance stats with scouting. Or did the word always take on a new meaning while I was away? And Mauer vs. Posey's defensive numbers are about as night and day as you can get, so that comparison is apt to this discussion.
  15. Judging by some of his odd and erratic behavior lately, I think he knows it too.
  16. When did I say I feel sorry for him? Something really, really, really, terrible would have to happen to a guy guaranteed over 100 million dollars for me to ever feel bad or sorry for them. I'm just saying that Quentin is at fault, 100%. Putting any of the blame on Grienke is a little like saying, "well its not her fault, but come on look at that skirt she was wearing..."
  17. Hicks nowhere in the top 20? I know he's off to a terrible start here, but I still have him #5 on my list: 1)Buxton 2)Sano Coming into the year I had Sano then Buxton. Well, gosh darnit, I've drank the kool aid! Buxton carries more risk, but boy if he hits his ceiling it's going to be amazing. 3)Meyer 4)Arica I have Meyer ahead of Arcia because I think he has a chance to be a legit ace. To me, Arcia's upside is pre knee injury Kubel, which is still pretty good, but if both reach their ceiling, I'll take the ace over Kubel. 5)Hicks 6)Gibson Boy, tough MLB debut for Hicks, but I still think he has the tools to be a good player at a premium position. I'm not giving up on him. Gibson should be a quality #2 as soon as this year. 7)Rosario 8)Berrios I'm tempted to move both these guys ahead of Gibson. If Rosario can stick at 2B, he could be a top hitter at his position for years. Berrios has a chance to shoot WAY up the 'spec lists by this time next year. 9)May 10)Kepler Hopefully May's slider can come along enough to stick in the rotation, if not he loses a bunch of value. Kepler needs to have a big year in 2013. The guy is athletic as they come, but will it translate to baseball skills? So far its been hit and miss. 11)Benson 12)Harrison 13)Bard 14)Goodrum 15)Chargois 16)Walker 17)Herrmann 18)Santana 19)Jones 20)Roberts Honorable mentions: Polanco, Melotakis, Boyd, Tonkin, Vargas, Williams, Minier,
  18. I think you might want to watch the video again. Grienke didn't start towards Quentin until Quentin dropped his bat and started running toward the mound. Honestly, I really don't understand how you expect Grienke to handle this situation. You shouldnt be required (or expected) to "avoid contact", once someone else initiates the aggressive move towards you. [video=youtube;J2FoxcPX6EE]
  19. It was only a 35 AB sample size in ST that "earned" him the job. I'm fine with the argument that he deserves more time, but be consistent if you are going to use sample size as a reason.
  20. LOL are you joking!!!! Does Grienke not have a right to defend himself when someone charges the mound? If anything, I'd say Grienke was about as non aggressive as you could possibly expect in this situation by just lowering his shoulder in a defensive position, and not throwing a punch. The charger is the active aggressor here, not the chargee. What should Grienke have done? Turn tail and run screaming like a little girl into centerfield?
  21. Yeah, if the stats are close, I can see how you would look to the scouting reports to get further insight, and/or to confirm or deny a belief that the stats give you. But do we really need a scouting report when the stats show one guy to be far and away better than another guy? Do we need to combine stats and a scouting report to know that Babe Ruth was a better baseball player than Lew Ford? Or is looking at the stats probably safe enough in some instances?? Jeez.
  22. Or hand them all a Twins uniform, a bat and a glove. They couldn't be any worse than the collection of guys in Twins uniforms with bats and gloves were down in KC.
  23. It's pretty simple. After 2+ years of losing, Gardy is on "tilt". Anyone who plays poker knows exactly what I'm talking about. You can't attempt to explain tilted behavior using logic or common sense.
  24. Over a very large sample size those things are going to equal out.
  25. Over a large enough sample size, those things will absolutely show up in the stats.
