I just fundamentally disagree with this comment, a comment repeated a lot around here. It was obvious this team didn't have the talent ever since Sonny Gray left. That 2023 team was pretty good and they haven't replaced the talent that has departed. Some swaps were fine, Solano with Santana or France (meh) Taylor with Bader. But then Gray was replaced with Woods Richardson, Polanco replaced with Brooks Lee, Kepler replaced with...DaShawn? They counted on their internal options to all make steps forward and almost none of them did. This team isn't nearly talented enough. Falvey is more at fault than Rocco. But both should be **** canned.

Twins commentary crew, without Plouffe, is in the argument for worst in all of baseball. Think it was the Jomboy guys that instantly answered for Twins as the worst just recently. And part of the reason is this intense company man schtick. It's nauseating when they're playing poorly. Will always laugh at Cory for how excited he got when the Twins won an ugly extra inning game against the Red Sox late last season. You'd have thought they won the division with his overreaction.

Which is why the failsons are trying to sell. Always makes me laugh when people come out to defend against people being mean to a billionaire. But to the Pohlad's credit I doubt they were besties with Epstein.

Penny pinching, home foreclosure Carl told every single Twins fan to go **** themselves 25 years ago, and yet the Pohlads still own the team. So that's just obviously not true. If you don't like the ****** product they're producing, and I don't, you can stop consuming it and that doesn't make you a worse person. The new owner is going to get an opportunity to win people like me back. Until then, I view the Twins as a fun, ongoing case study that gets absolutely none of my money (outside of the shared revenue from other teams or MLB.TV).

It's a product man. You're under no obligation to scarf down **** just because you liked that same brand at the age of 12. Loyalty to a billionaire's investment vehicle doesn't make you noble. Just like your employer, it's important to remember the Twins don't care about you.

I'm happy for the guy, but don't have any disillusionment about him being a savior. Best case scenario, he goes into the season next year gets 450-500 PAs, and comes out a 1.0-1.5 WAR player. Fine player. I take him over Martin since he's proven way more capable with the glove. But I won't be purchasing a Clemens jersey anytime soon. He's the exact same player that was DFAd by the Phillies and I can promise you they don't miss him.

Speaking of hindsight...the Twins chose Matt LeCroy over David Ortiz lol. Anyways, what were we talking about again?

It really is incredible roster construction to carry for nearly the entire season a player that the manager recognizes should never hold a bat. Not good, but still, incredible. DaShawn so bad that I'm a massive fan. Each of his hapless ABs is must watch television.

He had a really great month, no doubt. And since then he's reverted to being a replacement level player. If Martin were healthy at the time, Clemens wouldn't have been claimed, and if Martin were a decent fielder I don't think Clemens would have stayed on the roster. His sub 700 OPS in his last 120 PAs isn't really unexpected nor helpful. He's just good enough to be a major leaguer, but that could change within a week's time. If he's a Twin against next season I would expect them to be a sub 500 team.

That's not what we saw in the 2024. He looks like a good athlete that should be a decent fielder, but was just flat out bad. And it seems like the Twins still believe that assessment. If he were a decent fielder he would have been on the major league roster instead of keeping Clemens around. Or Keirsey lol.

Both Miranda and Julien are out of options after this season. Come 2026 they're going to be in that unfortunate position of either being on a Major League roster or DFAd into obscurity. And unlike a bullpen arm, the churn through on poor fielding infielders is incredibly minimal. Essentially, their major league careers are done and they hold no value, if not negative value. Austin Martin at least has one more option year remaining. There's some value in that ability to send them up and down as needed. But, again, while he's technically able to play multiple positions he plays none of them well. Castro isn't a gold glover anywhere, but he at least holds his own. The same can't be said for Martin.

They can't be blamed for the fact that they've finished top 5 in the AL in attendance exactly once in the last 14 seasons. It's everyone else's fault. 25th of 28 teams this year? Nothing the Pohlads can do. Yes, market differences are somewhat of an issue, and I fully expect a large jump in revenue sharing in the CBA, but that wouldn't fix 40% of the Twins's woes. 5%...maybe.

You know how you get to play consistently at a position? You make yourself irreplaceable. And the Twins DON'T have an "anyone, anywhere" philosophy, and you can tell because only 4 players (Bride, Clemens, Lee and Castro) have been asked to play 5+ games at multiple positions. Sure seems like that number would be way higher if your criticism were accurate. Lee doesn't suck right now because he's been asked to play 2B, SS, and 3B. He sucks because he plays all those positions pretty poorly, he's slow as ****, and he has pretty lousy swing decisions. This isn't to say he can't improve, but I promise you it has absolutely nothing to do with the burden of playing one IF position instead of a different one.

Martin could have been a decent major leaguer, but for the fact that he's another Twins player that can't play a competent defense at the major league level, making his 90 OPS+ pretty untenable.

The bullpen, for how talented it is, isn't actually that great. It's sitting somewhere around 20th in the league in effectiveness and hasn't been better than league average since the emergence of the "dominant" Jax and Duran, so, yeah, I'm not worried at all about rebuilding that. Bullpens are still extremely overrated. Any decent GM can construct one on the fly that is as effective as the current Twins bullpen.

Who is this mystical player that the Twins have failed to give a chance to develop? I keep hearing from people on this website that the Twins are at fault for refusing to give their young players a chance, and for the life of me I can't begin to guess who the hell they're referring to. Or is this your "let Larnach hit LHP!" soapbox again?

I'm less concerned about his bat than the apparent reality that the Twins have another fairly lousy athlete on their hands. The Brewers are one of the best teams in baseball with a bounty of infielders that resemble Lee offensively. The thing is, they are also extremely good athletes that play great defense and run the bases well. Lee looks like another bust for that reason.

I think this is true, with the exception of relievers. Maybe I'm wrong but it just seems teams wildly overpay for relievers at the deadline as opposed to the offseason. Empty the bullpen now. Don't wait for the offseason. But I agree, don't truly entertain a trade for Ryan. The value won't be there.
