I was just on Kalshi. They have no bet on Wallner. Only Twins player on the markets right now is whether Ryan will be traded. Currently at 37% chance that he will.
The radio guys said earlier in the inning that nobody was warming in the pen. From their analysis, it sounds like they want Rogers to try to get more outs in the next inning. Next up would be Orze or Klein.
I agree with you in principle. I think that would mean that we would need to see Morris come out for one more inning. He's at 57 pitches so that would be possible. Given the fact that 2 of the next 3 batters are lefites makes me think it's Taylor Rogers time.
EDIT: That would also open up a bullpen spot for the Twins to sign Kahnle from the Red Sox for some bullpen help.
If Joe Ryan controls it well enough, he would come off the IL around early June, get a few starts in to show that he's back in time for that deadline trade.
Festa is looking more and more like a candidate that needs the Varland treatment and going to the bullpen whenever he comes back and then see whether he can stretch himself out in the offseason.
Listening on the radio. Chris did say that he was wearing one of those heat and massage back wraps prior to the game. Their suspicion was that he reaggravated his back issue that he had in spring training.
I just don't see how today is going to go any better. Unfortunately, when a reliever comes in due to injury, he seems to get shelled since he is out of his routine and warming up on the mound instead of in the bullpen.
Me as well. You can log onto MLB.com or use the MLB app and listen to the radio broadcast. That's what I am going to do. I just won't be able to react to things like whether an ABS challenge is good or not or how bad the fielding is.
Both Jax and Varland were tried out as starters prior to converting to the bullpen. Jax was only given one year as a starter before going to the bullpen. Varland spent parts of three years as a starter before transitioning to the bullpen after coming back from an injury in 2024 and found his niche. Only Duran was converted to a reliever in the minors.
Holy geez! The cope is real! Tim Laudner is calling Banda "normally reliable"? Are we watching the same games? He has a 9.00 ERA. I would trust a lot lizard with a $100 bill more than I would Banda trying to hold a game.
I would still contend that if you stopped prior to trading away Varland this would be a completely different bullpen. There would be a more defined role at the end of the pen and everyone else may fall a little better into place.
To give a point of reference, the Rockies have a bullpen ERA 0.9 runs lower than the Twins. It's not a slam against the Rockies other than they have to pitch at elevation.
This was the first thing that came to mind when Cory was pondering on air what LaTroy Hawkins was thinking about his job trying to coach the band of misfits that is the bullpen.
This may be a good time to share this nugget of news. Tommy Kahnle has demanded a release from his minor league contract with the Red Sox. Maybe the Twins can sign him. I guess his results for the Woo Sox have been good this year.
