  1. [swag On] / Swag Off thanks dan
  2. I would think Diamond is gone for sure with the addition of Gilmartin and Johnson, so Deduno for the 5th spot if hes healthy and Worley to the pen?
  3. Twins have been after Gilmartin for awhile they were even linked to him in the draft if I remember. Lefty that doesn't throw real hard with excellent control. Decent return for Doumit to get a close to mlb ready starter.
  4. This would be a nice move they need to bring someone in. Suzuki or Buck could be league average serviceable but a younger player with more control and upside would be much larger upgrade. Fien might be a slight overpay, but really a setup guy can be replaced. Parms + AAA reliever not named Tonkin maybe.
  5. If they go reclamation project I would not mind Baker. It took awhile to happen but Baker looked to me like he had taken a big step forward in 2011 before his injury. He had always been a nibbler failing to put guys away without a lot of foul tips or balls, but 2011 he was much quicker about ending at bats via more ks or playable weak contact. There is also still the Target Field benefit to fly ball pitchers. He is a major gamble with his injury history, but I think there is maybe more upside there then some of the older scrap heap guys.
  6. So now they have Hart, LoMo, Montero, and Smoak? All should be 1b/dh.
  7. So I think their ranking is Arroyo is who they really want Colon is a plan B to that Garza is the all in Pelfry is the well nothing else worked out route
  8. I will be happy if they sign him, 3 years is not ideal but may be what it takes. Right now the rotation still has 2 of Deduno/ Worley/ Gibson/ Diamond in it and while there is some promise to pull a solid back of the rotation guy out of that group I don't think it would be wise to hand 2 spots over them and hope they succeed. Gibson can be stashed, one can get the 5th spot, and if we really have to hold onto one more they can be the long reliever. I don't see it as that negative a thing they lose some warm bodies at the top of the 5th starter pipeline. Gibson, Meyer, or whoever makes a real claim for a spot can displace whoever wins the 5th spot or Corriea.
  9. I can certainly see NY pursuing him (his power would pretty well there) but I don't think they, or anyone, is going to give up multiple top of the org prospects for him. If he gets moved to the Yanks I think it would be more along the lines of Dozier for Pineda (maybe plus a throw in). With Rosario's clock being set back essentially 1/2 a year I doubt Dozier will be traded at this point. I think you see what you have in him and let Rosario take his time now, no need to trade the 1 possibly above average MI they have developed since Guzman, unless they are blown away of course.
  10. Chavez would be a great move in my opinion but I think they are going to just roll with Plouffe until Sano gets here. Plouffe has the potential to be a valuable piece but it isn't as an everyday 3b, his ceiling is Cuddy-lite moving around the corners in the IF and OF and maybe some 2nd. He has pop and he demolishes lefties but gets killed in his platoon splits, and since there are more RH pitchers once he starts slumping he keeps getting a heavy dose of guys he can't hit well. At the end of the year however he was looking a little better vs righties going the other way a bit, but sacrificed most of his power. If he can do that in limited exposure to them and still own lefties he could be a good piece to have.
  11. Would love it if they can get him for Burton/ Fien + an ok prospect. They need a lefty bad, hes a risk and a little expensive but there is a ton of upside. Or does a Travis Harrison or something along those lines get it done by himself.
  12. I like Deduno, I think he has the stuff too be part of a quality rotation. He looked to have really taken a step forward last year. If they sign 1 more pitcher and go with a Deduno/ Gibson back end of the rotation I will be satisfied, there will be potential instead of just cannon fodder on the mound. Heck if they both pitch well Corriea could be the one bumped down the depth chart for Meyer or whomever is demanding a shot.
  13. Hughes would be a good signing but I think there are some guys they should pursue first. Kazmir should be the main target right now, they need a good lefty and he should be in a similar price range as Hughes. I would also rather have Garza or Arroyo but I kinda doubt they will they will sign another 25+ million pitcher.
  14. I think hes just filler, they are thin on close to the majors left handed starters and he maybe profiles a little better than what they have, his line from last year is promising anyway. While the pen is much better stocked now and has reinforcements coming through the system already.
  15. I am fine with Deduno as the 5th starter if he wins the spot, in fact I like a 5th starter that is a little more of a gamble not just the pitch to contact "reliable" 4.5 era guy. Deduno has some nasty stuff when hes on but he has little control of it and when hes off its ugly. I was not a fan of Big Pelf I hope they don't bring him back, erratic control on a sinker baller is a bad trait. He has mediocre at best secondary stuff and while his sinker has velocity and good movement he has little ability to control it. Also maybe more of a pet peeve for myself but he pitches at an extremely slow pace which does not help his mechanics get repeated or keep his defense on its toes for when he finally lays a sinker over the middle on a 3-2 count 7 pitches into the at bat.
  16. Kind of an awkward situation to change the return, but I think this guy fills a more needed role. This team is thin on lefties that can start close to the majors but has plenty of bullpen help coming. Hopefully this kid works out his AAA line from last year is promising. w-l 10-4 ip 135 2/3 era 2.39 h 116 k/bb 94/43 opp avg .234
  17. Ideally I would like to see one of Garza/ Ubaldo, one of Arroyo/ Kazmir/ Hughes, and a flier like Johan/ Niemann.
  18. I think Frankie was happy to go somewhere else. I doubt coaching means quite as much as it gets blamed for in most cases, but I really can't see Rick Anderson and Liriano as having ever had a real good working relationship.
  19. Yes free agency is a big gamble, I would like to see them bet on a player with a little more risk and a higher upside. Nolasco has consitency on his side, but his consitency is more of a solid 3rd or 4th starter. The risk is low that he flames out or struggles too much but its also a low probabilty he puts up better numbers and becomes a 2. Ubaldo on the other hand should cost in the same neighborhood of years and money, comes with more risk but could be a solid number 2 even possible ace. I think consistency can be had for cheaper than dominance if they are going to spend big on someone take the risk and the upside.
  20. Hmm I was under the impression Kazmir was de railed more to injury than just losing it. I think he would be a good gamble on an overpay to get him here. Certainly could use a lefty and certainly could use a strikeout pitcher, even if he bombs 2 or 3 years isn't going to hurt things much.
  21. I think there will be a trade for a young pitcher, but it won't be anyone of Millers cost level. Buxton, Sano, Meyer, Stewart are untouchable, anybody else I would listen on. I would look to trade a package with a Dozier/ Perkins/ Arcia/ Rosario type centerpiece.
  22. The twins have been using this logic for years now trying to clone Brad Radke and it has led to the glut of 4th/5th/AAAA starters that have made up the rotation. Velocity isn't everything but it sure helps and at this point, at least for me, it would be nice to see them attempt to pursue it instead of pitchibility.
  23. He certainly could be a good fit, but I think it would be foolish for them to spend what fungible trade assets they have for a bat. There is no guarantee Pinto is ready to contribute but they can get a stop gap/ backup vet on the cheapish for a year or two to ease that transition and still have those assets to trade for pitching.
  24. Going for Pavano 2.0? They could use a workhorse but it scares me if they spend 10+ on Arroyo then he is going to be the "major" addition. I am having this dark nightmare where the starters on opening day are Arroyo, Correia, Vargas, Gibson, and Dedeuno and TR is saying see I spent money on the rotation.
  25. This is what I have been thinking as well. Now he is going to have his legs under him, get less banged up, and have a heck of a lot more time to just focus on hitting since he presumably won't be going to all the catchers meetings and what not. Sure he might not have the prototypical power for the position but he is still a hitting machine and Sano will be providing a lot of power from the other side of the infield soon enough.
