    He’s hard to read, and it seems like narrative around him has changed. I read him last year as a potential high OBP guy, patient hitter, but the buzz this year is that he’s swinging for the fences and/or guessing on pitches.

    Jeffers had a nice AB. Took a low and away pitch back up the middle as opposed to taking a wild home run swing. Little things that give hope.

    So what you’re saying is that very small ST sample is projectable, and it would result in something materially worse than the near zero that we’re going to get with Santana or Margot taking those AB’s over the course of the season? Don’t you think that we’re going to need to see if AK can get his big boy pants on and be passable against lefties, or are we conceding that he’s only ever going to be a platoon guy? I feel like his career dies a little every time he gets yanked for a pinch hitter.

    Apropos of nothing… In yesterday’s game, they very briefly cut to a camera shot of hitting (?) coach Popkins talking with AK in the dugout while he was being pinch hit for by Santana. Here’s my version of how that went….. Popkins: Sorry Alex, but the Big Guy says until you start hitting lefties, we’re going to pinch hit for you. Alex: But Coach, if I NEVER get a plate appearance against a lefty, how am I going to be able to hit against them? Popkins: Er….you might have a point. We’ll bring that up in the off-season.

    Even when we get Correa and Lewis back, we’re still doomed with this roster construction and endless tinkering by the Manager, so realistically you’re looking at a 3rd place AL Central team IMO.
