  1. Perhaps it is my long history of following the Twins ass they have tried to develop pitchers, only to see their elbows unravel, but I am terrified of prospects lauded for their velocity. I think an important element to any fastball pitcher is how much movement there is on that fastball, and how well you can play off of it (i.e. Johan and his change). Ultimately, I am hoping that Falvey's accolades as a development guy are well warranted, and down the road we are discussing some of the later round picks from this draft just as much as the top end talent.
  2. After those two, you would almost certainly say Nick Gordon, and "I sure hope someone really surprised us"
  3. With the daily moves of late, this is an important series to spend time reading. Thanks for the updates! We'll see 75% of the people mentioned here by the tie the week is through.
  4. Nice to see Chris Paul hitting those doubles, but it would be nice to see a few clutch triples too. Did you know that Chris Paul is also the name of a basketball guy?
  5. One thing I think is lost in all the criticism of Mauer... what would the Twins have done with that extra money? How many fans would have left if they hadn't re-signed him in his prime? 23 million dollars would have been good enough for what, 2 Ricky Nolascos? The contract had to be signed, both for baseball and PR purposes, and hasn't really negatively impacted the Twins' payroll as much as some people allege. I'm glad he isn't too old to bring on a good season now, to boot, mostly because that means I might still have a little bit of gas in the tank too.
  6. And to think, I was upset when Josmil Pinto left.
  7. If I am this excited about a "solid #3" I can't imagine what I would be like if the Twins developed a true ace
  8. I can't be mad. The Twins have enough strikes called on them, enough swings and misses, there was really a better than 30% that the next pitch would have been a legit strike three. This gets fans to Huberts a little bit faster
  9. So much big catcher news this week
  10. I'll be interested to see how Gonsalves did after last year and now, a subsequent injury. Will he bounce back? now, with Berrios and Mejia clearly better than their triple A counterparts, and the next in line, but the rotation here to date proving themselves capable, I feel more of intrigued in his development rather than anxious and in desperate need for hope.
  11. I think right now the rotation hasn't really given a reason to make a rapid change. If Buxton sees less of the field, or is sent down, I think the flaws in the staff are exposed, and then you might see Berrios
  12. Byron Buxton is at the same time one of the most vital reasons the Twins are successful, and one of the biggest areas of concern. Interesting. At this point, you can't possibly bench him or send him down, so what do you do to straighten out his bat? I don't know. I can live with it so long a he doesn't take it to the field.
  13. Rosario drew the second at about the time a Pegasus soared past with a shirtless Nick Punto standing on its back. Rosario doesn't walk a lot is what I'm saying
  14. Call me crazy, but I don't think they will lose the first 9 games of the season this year. Even a 4-5 start will make the whole season that much more palatable
  15. No matter how good or bad your bullpen is, it will be helped exponentially by a rotation that can work deep into games. I'm more concerned that the rotation still doesn't seem to have much positive momentum than I am that the bullpen is still underwhelming
  16. Kind of a tough week all around. Good thing there will be a whole bunch of opening day stuff next week
  17. "2001 Cretin-Derham Hall graduate and 2009 American League Most Valuable Player Joe Mauer officially signs his eight-year, $184 million extension during a press conference at the Twins’ Spring Training facility in Ft. Myers, Florida. The contract, which locks the hometown kid up through 2018, is the fourth-fattest in major league history at the time." Literally the end of the Twins as we know them. The only thing standing between the Twins and a world series title* *Dripping with sarcasm
  18. I think we will know what kind of front office the Twins have if Justin Haley breaks camp with the team. He hasn't done much this spring, and there are probably better options, but he was also one of the very few players the new regime added. Will they be OK returninghim? Or even paying to keep him on the roster? Or will they have too much pride and bury him on the roster all year, a la JR Graham? I'm sufficiently intrigued.
  19. The outfield defense will function as offense, but it is quite possible the infield defense will be offensive
  20. I see a lot of Carlos Gomez' development in Buxton. Yes, he's fast, but also, there is a lot of lean strength and the potential for power. Let his skills across the entire range on offense develop. I like that there is an open competition for the top of the order, and Buxton will be given the opportunity to be a middle of the order bat just as much as a traditional lead off hitter.
  21. i think with a growing team like this one, we should all expect all of these guys to get some run at the lead off spot. Who sticks is less likely to come down to performance in that particular, important role. Also, I always appreciate when a writer can find an image with the three exact guys he wants in the same picture. As someone who has dealt with the Getty Images lotto, kudos.
  22. Thanks for the write up. With season tickets, I find that I have grown oblivious to all the marketing efforts of the team.
  23. If everything works out, that's a serious glut of players coming next year. It will be nice if the Falvey hiring really does pan out in the Twins' ability to develop pitchers. I'm not saying anything new, but there is definitely a difference between having talent and converting that talent to useful productivity.
  24. Congratulations, 5 years in internet time is about 1000 years in the real world
  25. What is the likelihood that he even sticks at short? Doesn't every position player start at short?
