  1. Look at how this past year's team played. Basically the same roster from 2015. I think there's some truth to having veterans who can stop things from snowballing.
  2. Before tonight's Twins Town Hall, FSNorth showed the Blyleven-Smalley feature in which they were talking about, among other things, at one time being traded for one another. Bert was chronicling the trade that brought him back to the Twins, and something stood out to me. *Paraphrased* "I just wanted to get out of Cleveland, so GM Peter Bavasi asked me where I wanted to go. I said Anaheim, because that's where I was from. He said that wasn't happening, since they weren't willing to trade Don Baylor. Ultimately, it ended up being Minnesota, and that was OK, too." Cool story, I suppose, but.....uh.... Blyleven was traded back to the Twins on Aug. 1, 1985. Baylor left the Angels as a free agent following the 1982 season to sign with the Yankees. Not only was Baylor not with the Angels, he was a few months away from being traded to the Red Sox. Just seems like a weird thing to mis-remember or fabricate, no?
  3. I wrote this up today and would like to start a discussion. http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/warne-finding-a-trevor-plouffe-landing-spot/ I wouldn't do this for just any #OldFriend, but he was well-respected and I think most of us hope he lands on his feet. Where do you think he'll end up?
  4. He's not a good hitter by 80s, 90s or 2000s standards.
  5. He's hit .230 or better once (!) in the last FIVE seasons. There's no way.
  6. Agree he'd be a good target, but hard to imagine Twins meeting the price. Have mentioned it on Twitter a few times.
  7. Ryan Howard would be 10th on my list of nine DH-types to look into
  8. Check the splits. I'm not sold on Vargas despite taking big strides. He absolutely throttled lefties but was pedestrian against righties.
  9. Meant to put Revere in there but didn't. Not sure about him leading off though.
  10. Falvey and Levine mentioned early on that they may like to supplement the young roster with some capable veterans. I took a look at who some of them could/should be: http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/warne-finding-supplementary-veterans-for-the-twins/ As always, commentary appreciated.
  11. I loved him, then hated him and now find myself listening again now and then. But he's an entertainer. Maybe 20% of what he says for sports takes are serious.
  12. Is this the new "three-year deal for Scott Baker?"
  13. I think one writer who hasn't been mentioned yet that was incredible in this market is/was Tom Pelissero. Not Twins, but man he was really good. More of a national scope now.
  14. The website also has a reputation to maintain, as they're quoted on Rotoworld from time to time, etc.
  15. Can't see the Twins having any interest in Calhoun.
  16. Logan Forsythe is basically who Brian Dozier was before this blow-up. And the fact of the matter is, you don't look to replace the production. You move a new player to the spot and see what happens. "Replace the production" is a hot air phrase that doesn't mean anything.
  17. Get your Brian Dozier trade talk here! Dustin Nosler from Dodgers Digest talks LA's offseason, and specifically what he'd be willing to move to get Dozier http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/mws-dustin-nosler-from-dodgers-digest-talks-brian-dozier-trade/
  18. Today on Midwest Swing, Dustin Nosler said he'd do something like Puig, De Leon and Lux. I'd do that in a New York Minute.....which is seven seconds.
