  1. I know the issues with scouting the stat line, but minor league numbers: Florimon - .250/.322/.359 Vielma - .264/.327/.309
  2. Not having a future stud tells me they need(ed) to get ready to get at least one very good player in FA. I favored Heyward -- shoot me, I can handle it -- but I think they'll have to find one really good player to supplement Buxton and Sano in FA.
  3. Good post. I'm convinced Sano's issues at third are focus and reps based, not physical issues. That's why I think he can overcome them.
  4. Vielma is like Pedro Florimon 2.o. I just don't see him as a future starter.
  5. Latest episode with Jon Becker as we break down MLB moves this offseason. Bright kid: http://coldomaha.com/2017/twins/mws-offseason-signings-and-fits-with-jon-becker/
  6. ....who throttled lefties last year, while Toles is a LHH. Weird comment.
  7. He can hit righties. He'll make a potentially nifty platoon with either Murphy or Garver. I wouldn't hate Gimenez getting some run either. He seems to be fairly intelligent, even if he doesn't offer much with the bat.
  8. Who? Glen Perkins comes to mind -- and that's about it.
  9. Here's Michael Tonkin: http://coldomaha.com/2017/twins/2016-minnesota-twins-report-card-michael-tonkin/
  10. Look I get what you're saying, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on specifics. All good.
  11. It took 89 wins to reach the playoffs as a Wild Card last year. 80 wins isn't really close to that. In fact, one-third of the American League (five teams) had at least 80 wins but didn't reach the postseason.
  12. A team that is close to the playoffs can't risk living with the floor that duo provides. A team who is likely to win 75-80 games -- or fewer, if you like -- can.
  13. I wrote for Cold Omaha today that I think the Twins will win 80 games this season. Discussion, as always, appreciated: http://coldomaha.com/2017/twins/the-minnesota-twins-will-win-80-games-in-2017/
  14. Latest episode with Mike Berardino https://t.co/xoqHJw3oah
  15. Here's Hector Santiago https://t.co/iCtz4qY6Jb
  16. Don't forget about Quintana's team options. His trade value is many, many times higher than Brian Dozier's right now.
  17. No, but Perkins also throws for a living and is in his mid-30s. I'd be putting Profar through a physical, too.
  18. He's young, plays short and has big league success. He's still very well regarded in the prospect community.
  19. He started out hot and faded down the stretch. Seems to me it might be difficult for him to keep up with rigors of playing everyday. I think it'll be easier this year.
  20. Doesn't really add up. They want to start Trea Turner at short.
  21. Yeah, who'd want a 24-year-old top prospect for far less than he'd usually cost because he's been hurt?
  22. Hot take alert: move Ervin to Texas with whatever else it'll take for Jurickson Profar.
  23. I'm not sure why the contrary to what I said would be "no veterans" but I'll indulge you anyway. I think having more veterans would help. I think Torii's role on the 2015 team was keeping certain guys in line. That's something I think a Mike Napoli could help out with. To me, the identity of the 2016 team was that when things went bad, they snowballed -- and quickly. That's a hallmark of having young players in prominent roles all together.
  24. No. I just don't think it's as cut and dry and WAR makes it seem. As in, obviously no player is worth 10-15 wins -- other than Mike Trout -- but I think having vets can keep things from snowballing.
  25. Relievers I think they should be interested in: Aaron Barrett Joba Chamberlain Santiago Casilla Louis Coleman Neftali Feliz Jim Henderson Luke Hochevar Sergio Romo Shawn Tolleson Fernando Salas Drew Storen Junichi Tazawa Travis Wood
