  1. I've been bad at updating this, but Pat Borzi of MinnPost and New York Times came on today and did a great job: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/mws-new-york-times-and-minnpost-writer-pat-borzi/
  2. These are not takes. These are #takes.
  3. Here's my final 25-man roster guess for Zone Coverage: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/projecting-the-minnesota-twins-opening-day-roster-last-take/ Thoughts? Reminder -- this is not necessarily what I'd do, but what I think the Twins may do.
  4. Hot take: I'd sign Jorge Polanco to a really cheap deal if he was willing. Something a little lower than Tim Anderson's deal.
  5. I think my ideal order right now might be: 1. Mauer 1B 2. Polanco SS 3. Dozier 2B 4. Sano 3B 5. Kepler LF 6. Buxton CF 7. Park DH 8. Castro C 9. Rosario RF
  6. It's not 1987 anymore. The two teams that won flags last year have Carlos Santana and Kyle Schwarber leading off. Get on base. That's your only job as a leadoff hitter. There are two things I'd factor into who leads off for me: 1. who gets on base most 2. at the end of the year, who do I want getting the most plate appearances on the team No. 2 is why I don't really have a problem with Dozier batting leadoff to end last year. Keep in mind, while we all seem to feel like he led off all year, he didn't really do so until Nunez was traded. Nunez actually led off like 65 times for the Twins last season.
  7. I'd probably bat Buxton fifth or sixth to start the season. That way he can still be a big part of the offense, but can also run wild with bottom of the order hitters behind him.
  8. Adrianza showed a bit more pop in the minors. His isolated power was nearly twice what Vielma's is, and Vielma still hasn't played at Triple-A either.
  9. Have said on Twitter multiple times that I just don't see him ever leading off. There's almost no chance that his eye develops alone without him also being a power threat. Basically, he's more likely to be a .320/.480 guy (OBP/SLG) than a .380/.420 guy. Or maybe more accurately, he's way more likely to be .340/.460 than .360/.440. If he develops on-base skills, he's a middle of the order stud.
  10. This week's edition is watching old #MNTwins commercials: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/twins-flashback-friday-lets-watch-old-commercials/
  11. I think that's pretty close, yeah. Basically, I think they should sell high on Grossman instead of cutting bait on Santana.
  12. That is because cretins like us aren't privy to who a guy like that might return. I would cut Danny before Robbie, FWIW
  13. I see the point there, but I also don't think his value has anywhere to go but down. He's got 3 (?) years of control and is coming off what I suspect will be his best-ever offensive season. If there was a Pat Light-type reliever available, I think I'd roll the dice on that, even.
  14. Wrote it up for Zone Coverage today. https://t.co/mEbXltEt7O Glad to chat about it here. Comments, questions, (friendly) critiques welcomed!
  15. If Haley doesn't make it, he has to clear waivers, then be offered back to Boston for a specific amount (more than before due to new CBA, but I don't recall how much). They can work out a trade, but what are the odds he's worth a trade but not worth keeping on the roster with the number of relievers they have in the system? I wouldn't say terribly high.
  16. I mean it has to be a distant consideration, but it would sort of be out of left field, wouldn't it? I think it might raise some eyebrows since he's been used pretty normally this spring.
  17. Wrote about this for Zone Coverage today: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/handicapping-the-no-5-starter-battle-for-the-twins/ As always, looking for good discussion and (kind) criticism here!
  18. May on the 60 (already done) Perkins on the 60 (possible/likely) Adrianza/Tonkin would have to be taken off 40 if they don't make team Haley also has to clear waivers
  19. I meant if he alone had survived. To your point...probably. But us saying he "made a mistake" isn't closing that gap, either. It's probably widening it. (edit: very minimally because nothing we do really matters)
  20. My dude Grant made a good point on twitter: Yeah he made a mistake, but he'd be in jail for a long, long time if he'd somehow survived.
  21. Eh. I'm not really sure how we've gotten to the point where society says you can't say things about people who make these tragic, horrific "mistakes." We don't go easy on everyday, ordinary people who drink, drive and kill others. It's probably a fine line -- that is, between pointing out what he did wrong and trashing him -- but I think we as a society are taking "c'mon, he just made a mistake" a bit too far.
  22. You can go old-> young. The alternative is young -> tire fire. (Albers, Dean, etc)
  23. I know we like our Twins history here at Twins Daily, so I thought I'd share an article series I've been doing at Cold Omaha/Zone Coverage called "Twins Flashback Friday." Here's the link to the category so you can see all the older posts: http://zonecoverage.com/tag/twins-flashback-friday/ This week, I went back in Twins lore to look back fondly on about the only positive thing to happen during the 1994 season -- Scott Erickson's no-hitter. Check it out: http://zonecoverage.com/2017/twins/twins-flashback-friday-scott-erickson-throws-a-no-no/ And of course, as always, please feel free to let me know what you think!
