  1. Before TJ stuff, Burdi had an upper arm bone bruise: http://www.twincities.com/2017/01/31/minnesota-twins-nick-burdi-changes-arm-slot-in-hopes-of-staying-healthy/
  2. Lavelle said "Indications are Twins will take on most of the salary." Wolfson said "Told as talks stand now, #MNTwins will very likely assume the remaining $4.7M on Garcia's contract." So there was a little wiggle room. Seems like there might be more to this than just the medicals of a Burdi level prospect...
  3. I wonder what the medicals could be, he just had the surgery 2 months ago...
  4. Breslow gave up an insurance run too. Really inexplicable that he is back/still on this team...
  5. The Braves just released reliever Eric O'Flaherty. His 7.85 ERA would have fit right in with the Twins...
  6. To be fair, the Twins have long been a final destination for many pitchers. Still could be, if Colon is any indication...
  7. Sources say Twins Daily is "close to acquiring" 15 copies of OOTP 18.
  8. How much could the medicals really impact this thing? It's 2 months, and Garcia is healthy and pitching now. I can't fathom how medicals could be a difference maker here (unless the Twins were already hoping to re-sign Garcia).
  9. We could throw in Rob Anthony. With or without the "h".
  10. FWIW, Garcia is scheduled to start for the Braves tonight (Friday) in LA vs. the Dodgers.
  11. So jokes aside -- what's up with this? Link still doesn't work, over a week into the promotion. Or are we possibly including these prizes in a Jaime Garcia trade?
  12. Starter ERAs are higher than reliever ERAs, though, so 100 is actually above-average for a starter. (Starter average is generally 95)
  13. Well, we only really have one "Gordon type" and the Braves have no particular need for him, so I don't think we have to worry. Could be we send them a pitching prospect and get a lesser prospect or non-prospect in return (like Busenitz last year).
  14. I think a Garcia acquisition now could also be an indication of what they plan to do in the offseason. If we get him now, even though he's a rental, there's probably a decent chance we'd re-sign him (not unlike Pavano, or how people were discussing Santiago a couple months ago).
  15. I don't think Palka counts as "pretty decent" anymore, does he? He'll be 26 in October, is taking a 40-man spot, and he only had a 108 wRC+ this year in AAA before he got hurt. I guess Seth ranked him #11 back in May, but that seems too high now. In the context of the Braves, Palka makes even less sense. They're obviously covered at 1B (Freeman and Adams), and in the OF (Enciarte, Kemp, and Markakis) at least through 2018. One of them could be dealt, of course, but the Braves top prospect (Acuna) is also an OF and has already reached AAA. I'm guessing Palka's stock is trending toward what it was when we acquired him. I could see him being part of a minor deal, or a second or third piece here, but he's not going to be the primary piece that would motivate the Braves to deal Garcia 10 days before the deadline.
  16. It absolutely would not be Park. Setting aside the fact that he costs money and has been pretty bad, the Braves already have Freeman and Adams and no DH spot to fill either.
  17. Palka's likely to be dropped from the 40 this winter (if not earlier). He's not in this trade as anything more than a secondary piece.
  18. Could still involve Melotakis, he is slightly more valuable now that he isn't using a 40-man spot. Assuming he wouldn't be selected in Rule 5 this winter. I doubt he would be the primary piece, though.
  19. It has not been announced as a PTBNL. The trade just hasn't been announced yet. I do agree it won't be a "top prospect" but it will be interesting to see who it is.
  20. For reference, to get Garcia last winter, Atlanta gave up their 17, 21, and 29 prospects. All of them appeared to be low-ceiling types, though. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/cardinals-trade-jaime-garcia-braves.html
  21. I don't know. Garcia is probably a decent match for Santiago last year -- better peripherals / FIP, similar cost, 1 less year of control. I'd guess they would wait until July 31 if all they were getting offered here was salary relief.
