  1. It is said here that the Twins "certainly have the arms to put together a top 5 rotation". How do any of us know for sure that that is the case with the young pitchers, some will be fine, others not so much, we cannot assume anything along those lines especially on a March day in 2014.
  2. As mentioned here, saves per se are a complete joke and the rule(s) and/or stats governing them should be changed. For one thing why save your best reliever for say the last inning when your opponent's are sending up the 7,8,9 part of the batting order. Better to use them in the eighth inning when say 4,5,6 hitters are coming up with men on base. Plus on lousy teams that are not competing a "closer" is not even necessary. If a team has such a "closer" on their roster trade them to a contender for young building blocks. Plus aren't "our lads" as Reusse calls them always building anyway?
  3. I am 100 percent in agreement with this idea of dumping ALL of the assets and further building the farm system but are most fans on board with this? Plus we get mixed signals from ownership and management on the same subject as they both often are trying to build a decent product for the current year and looking to the future as well. I think it is impossible to do both well, so we'll see especially starting in 2015 when the so-called turn around is supposed to begin.
  4. It appears that 120 pitches in a start is required in Texas, why is that not so in Minnesota? Isn't their standard about 100? No wonder the Twins need so many relief pitchers in any given season.
  5. As I have said before about Turner vis-a-vis great shortstop defenders. If a college shortstop is truly a GREAT fielder (Marc Belanger like) I do not think MLB teams should give any consideration at all to their hitting. And many learn on the job about hitting, Ozzie Smith sure did okay in that regard. Good MLB teams rely on their big guns for hitting not their shortstops. If Turner is GREAT by these standards there is not doubt in my mind at all about making him your first pick this coming June if he is available. If he isn't in that category then pass.
  6. Isn't it almost implied in MLB circles that Burton and/or Duensing will be shipped thus no need for Twins management to be forward or not regarding the two pitchers? Sure seems to be the case in my mind.
  7. If Florimon cannot go wouldn't they simply use Escobar at shortstop for a few games?
  8. Is that analogous to known unknowns as Donald Rumsfeld has stated in his less than sterling second term as defense secretary?
  9. Hopefully both Bartlett and Kubel will be cut before the season starts I am thinking, anyone else share that thought or do you still hope for improvement from them this pre-season?
  10. Correct me if I am wrong on this observation - If both Turner and Gordon are outstanding fielders at shortstop and I'm talking Marc Belanger good isn't being a slap hitter okay? I certainly think so.
  11. I will not be in Fort Myers until March 24 - will this sort of action be taking place beginning that day and all through the following week? And if so can we as fans purchase tickets for it? I will be in Fort Myers until April 1 so does this activity continue through that day?
  12. With this sort of logic then the Twins two best pitching prospects (let's assume Meyer and Stewart but it could be others) should immediately be put into the bullpen when they finally surface in Twins' uniforms and then when they become starters the next two supposedly best pitchers drafted are put into the MLB bullpen. Have I got this right?
  13. "begins the pay off" is way too huge of an assumption in my mind, much will have to click for that to become a reality. Let's hope it does but it may not be 2015 either. Time for a little caution before we deem all of the kids all-stars.
  14. Perhaps I am wrong on this one but it appears that many posters are assuming that the minor league pitchers in the Twins system have to be either starters or relievers right from the get-go, isn't that counter productive in the first place? Should any of the young pitchers be pigeon holed into one group or the other? I certainly do not think so, use these young pitchers down the road where they will be most successful. Even if that includes high draft picks such as Gibson and Stewart amongst others winding up as relievers. Perkins on the present MLB roster is a perfect example of him not finding his niche until later in his career. Plus the way the game is played today mandates that all teams must have decent bullpens including set-up guys as well as closers.
  15. Isn't the proper function of minor league teams producing hopefully good MLB players and not winning necessarily if at all?
  16. ^^^Seth isn't May starting in September for the Twins predicated on his success or lack thereof at Rochester or New Britain, I would certainly hope so.
  17. How many other posters agree that this rotation "could be literally one of the best in baseball" and "lead a team to a championship"? There are quite a few rotations that are way better, at least I think so. Who else agrees with Trautmann13 or with me on this subject?
  18. "any offense at all" is the problem, I see no improvement from 2013 in that area, none. Perhaps by mid-summer I can put my rose-colored glasses on again but I doubt it.
  19. stringer bell - tearing up the minor leagues is not a plus now nor has it ever been. Some players simply cannot hit MLB pitching and it appears Colabello is on a long list as one of them.
  20. ^^^TheLeviathan - glad to see you put "if" in your statement about development, I think way too many posters assume "when". In other words they are swallowing the Pohlad Kool-Aid just as badly as some of the journalists are and we assuredly know which ones are doing that.
  21. How do the Twins stack up in this regard as compared to other MLB teams? I think they are behind, convince me they are on an even keel or even ahead of other teams.
  22. Why the Twins would consider using Polanco at shortstop only escapes me, doesn't that restrict their options in the middle infield severely?
  23. Is this building comparable to what other good teams are doing I ask. We'll not know that for quite some time in my estimation, who agrees or disagrees with my premise?
  24. The depth may be "crazy" but is it even "decent"? I for one certainly do not think so.
  25. ^^^It is said here "the contending team next year", I surely do not understand how that assumption can be made, please advise.
