  1. Ryan in saying "I have a feel for it" and "but I'm not going to divulge it" speaks volumes about how the Minnesota Twins general manager runs the outfit. The logical conclusion is "quite poorly" I'd say. I have never heard a MLB executive frame something in such a way, added proof that Ryan is running the team off of the top of his head. But that's okay, the results show it, do they not?
  2. Also two Hall-of-Fame pitchers Whitey Ford and Greg Maddux were quite small, weren't they? If Berrios puts up numbers half as good as those two he will be the number one pitcher in any sort of rotation for any team. Oops, forgot Glavine also.
  3. I thought Honeywell was no longer headquarted in Minneapolis.
  4. Won't either Sano or Buxton or both be on the 2016 Twins' roster?
  5. We're missing somebody important but for the life of me I cannot think of who it could be, some old-timers help me out please.
  6. lightfoot, if you had indicated 2017 or 2018 I think it would be closer to the truth and perhaps Dozier will be a trade chip by then with either Santana or Polanco at 2B. And perhaps one of the kid catchers instead of Pinto as well.
  7. diehardtwinsfan - regarding Pino, cheap and cost controlled is what mainly concerns franchise ownership, isn't it, that is simply how the Pohlads operate. I doubt that will ever change, remember this is a franchise that ownership would have folded when it was suggested in some circles years ago for contraction of MLB not expansion. Would Calvin have entertained that notion? I doubt it.
  8. Marginal players also equals insignificant ones as well, why do the owners continue to spend such large sums on these types? It simply defies the imagination, doesn't it?
  9. Kudos to Smalley for his insight on a hitter's approach in this situation, I have thought that way since I was a kid and watching players try to go deep in a situation which only calls for a single or in some cases just a fly-out. Real quality hitters comport themselves in this manner in any era. To carry this further how many quality hitters are around now as compared to times past?
  10. Some budding comedy writers on this site, wonderful. "Common Man" needs some competition.
  11. tobi0040 - you have articulated the situation expertly in my mind and I would think almost everyone that comes to this site would agree with you 100%. With the current state of the franchise now more than ever the handling of young players is imperative for the health of the team going forward.
  12. Great, funny stuff, folks, keep it going please!
  13. TwinsTerritory - The Twins already have marginal players in their system, why would they need more? And Sam Fuld is even on the MLB roster. And they have already gone through Presley and Mastroianni and found both wanting. Marginal prospects would be fine but not players of the ilk you list, please.
  14. And how many years down the road will that playoff team be that Meyer will be the starting pitcher in? May I hazard a guess - 2018 and that is being charitable. That also predicates that Meyer will be the Twins best starter from their current crop of young pitchers, I posit perhaps Berrios or Stewart instead.
  15. TwinsTerritory: Regarding the four players you have traded - you do not have their replacements listed on your roster or even speculation as to who they will be. Please advise.
  16. Although not specific to this thread what is the status of both Meyer and May in regards to pitch count - both in specific games and for an entire season? And is it important to their future progress? For sure Bert and Kaat do not think so, rightfully so or not?
  17. Interesting lineups all but hopefully come spring of 2015 any of these predictions will be wrong or next season will easily be another 90+ loss fiasco. Plus just about everyone is predicting that when Sano and Buxton and Meyer and May are up for good (2016 & beyond) a contending team will ensue. It will take much more than just those four players for excellence to start happening at Target Field. Hopefully Twins management can cobble it all together effectively.
  18. Isn't it foolhardy to not do what twinsnorth49 states? I sure think so and I would think most posters here will be in agreement. What other MLB team is constantly signing old players and hoping for the best? I can think of absolutely NONE!
  19. Doesn't Suzuki have to stay on the roster even into next year simply because Pinto is not much with the glove? Or will his bat make up for that? Personally I do not think so.
  20. That is an awful rotation for next year and will probably mean instead of losing 90+ games they will probably only hit 85 to 87, the drought continues then, not acceptable to me nor should it be to any other fans as well.
  21. "sounds OK" to whom exactly? The five man rotation you name here is another recipe for disaster in 2015 in my mind. And who exactly would be a free agent to replace May or Meyer and which one of those two do you not promote then? Pelfrey is not a relief pitcher by any stretch, he would not accept that situation anyway, simply not in his makeup.
  22. Quite a few interesting ideas floated out there in this thread. However, the Pohlads are content to bring back the old gang of management year after year, we know who they are, don't we without naming them. And we also know they are simply not very adept at managing either. But until Jimmy and family decide to bring in some real baseball management types it will all continue, won't it?
  23. To continue this thread in a slightly different direction - Why are pitchers such as Nolasco and Correia and way too many others, innings eaters all, but not very proficient at actually pitching well, given the outlandish contracts they are given? If that is the norm then the owners that pay these outrageous salaries for poor to mediocre performances should certainly wake up and realize they are wasting their money on such "performers". Trust others will chime in on this subject, please!
  24. We Twins' fans are probably the only ones in MLB that have the opportunity to watch the team's "ace" pitcher throw in-game batting practice, isn't it fun?
  25. Almost every place one goes Pinto is viewed as a not very good fielding catcher so I posit on a team that is building albeit slowly a different option will have to be found.
