  1. Mitch Leidner wasn't awful, but he wasn't very good either. Rodney Smith and Taiyon Devers had great games and are basically the reason for the win. A win is a win.
  2. Looks like Nick Gordon will be double-play partners with Yoan Moncada. That should be a fun team to watch. Austin Meadows is on the team too.
  3. Only the Twins would send two 25 year old guys to the AFL. Now, Melotakis is a fine choice, but it's just like them to send a couple old guys over there.
  4. Logan Schafer is starting in CF tonight. Yay!!! /s
  5. With all this talk of Blankenhorn, a mention of his impressive numbers on the season seems necessary: .314/.362/.549 (.911) with 10 HR and 40 RBI in 52 games, and he just turned 20 years old this month.
  6. 2-6 for Buxton... but 3 more K's yesterday. In his last 10 games, he's K'd 19 times in 42 AB's. He's still hitting .310 over that stretch, but this is not what I was hoping to see him do. Why can't we have nice things?
  7. On the College Gameday preview show this morning, Kirk Herbstreit picked the Gophers to win the West this year. LOLz and good luck with that. I would guess 3rd could be a possibility. Iowa is my pick, followed by Nebraska.
  8. Over/Under on Robbie Grossman's walk total against Liriano tonight: 3.5? I'll take the over.
  9. Tonight's lineup: Dozier Grossman Plouffe Sano Kepler Polanco Escobar Suzuki Rosario
  10. I hope it's not a pure numbers guy that the Twins hire. We saw what Friedman just did to the Dodgers in potentially upsetting the entire team right as they were rolling with the Ellis/Ruiz swap. I'm not saying Friedman is a bad GM (or whatever his title is), but there needs to be a balanced perspective at the top.
  11. So Wimmers was a great college pitcher, then forgets how to throw a baseball when bumped up to professional baseball. Berrios is a great minor league pitcher, but looks awful when in the majors. Byron Buxton is a total stud in the minors, but looks absolutely lost when promoted to the majors... Not that these are necessarily related, but I think there's a flaw in the system (possible understatement of the year) Oh yeah, good luck to Alex Wimmers. And throw the ball over the plate please!.
  12. 16 K's in his last 38 AB's, and hitting .237 over that 10 game span. Why can't we have nice things?
  13. He seems like a Kyle Gibson pitcher to me. A heavy fastball, with mediocre secondary pitches. I'm assuming he's nibbling around the zone and trying to get guys to chase, as evidenced by the high walk numbers.
  14. Hopefully the wrist problems were a big factor in his struggles this year. And hopefully he has a successful recovery too.
  15. My favorite part about this for Kennys was the double-header. He hits 2 HRs and increases his OPS to over 1.000, and then can't get into the second game's lineup? And then only gets into two more games before he gets sent down. That doesn't seem right.
  16. Tate and two other players only got Texas a couple of months of a 39 year old DH.
  17. His delivery is a lot more high effort in games than that. Look up some video of him in game.
  18. Passing on Benintendi hurts a little, but that was such a weak draft at the top that I don't think you can say it doesn't look good right now. Tyler Jay has a 3.33 ERA with good K numbers in his first year starting. The injury doesn't sound too serious, so I'm not too worried about him.
  19. I'll give you this quote about Carson Fulmer from Keith Law on his "Just Missed" list from before the season (Jay ranked 61st). "He has a very violent delivery and tends to work too much out of the zone to be a big league starter, so I project him as a reliever, as did many scouts who saw him dealing for the Vanderbilt Commodores before the draft." http://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/14731648/kebryan-hayes-prospects-just-missed-top-100-mlb
  20. He's got a 4.76 ERA and he walks a ton of guys. Plus he's got a weird, high-effort delivery that usually leads to pitching in the bullpen.
  21. Who many, if not most, thought would have to move to the bullpen. And his results from this year are showing that this is probably the case.
  22. Pretty harsh take on Kohl Stewart, a guy who has a career 2.88 ERA, while being over 2 years younger than the league average at every stop. In his first time repeating a level, he increased his K rate from 4.9 to 7.7 at Ft. Myers. Still not great but he's shown improvement, and even when he's not striking guys out, he's getting them out, so I'd say this has been an encouraging year for him.
