  1. What's the point of those signings for the Twins? The small likelihood of any of those guys being good enough to get any sort of return is not worth them taking spots from Berrios, May, or Mejia.
  2. It seems like a better bet to sign guys to minor league contracts, like Burton or Abad for example, than give $5M or whatever to guys perceived to be higher upside.
  3. Are you sure those guys qualify as high upside?
  4. If the Twins had a bunch of veteran trade chips and were still bad, then yeah you should make some moves. The twins have basically 2 trade chips. No one needs a second baseman and Santana is their only reliable starter, so making a whole bunch of moves isn't all that realistic.
  5. Few reasons for hope? The lineup will have 2 recent top 10 prospects, a top 50 prospect, and a top 100 prospect. The staff could have guys like May, Berrios, and Mejia in it. Worrying about losing Suzuki and Plouffe is really weird.
  6. The Cubs have lost Aroldis Chapman and traded for an injured Wade Davis. They're bringing back basically the same team. Not that this has anything to do with the Twins though.
  7. Basically only 2 players met or exceeded expectations last year. I don't expect that to happen this year, and I'm looking forward to the young position players taking the next step.
  8. Here's one path to getting better: have more than 1 starter be better than completely awful. I think that's doable.
  9. Yeah Keith Law ranked Rutherford as the #22 prospect in the game. He has him ahead of the top overall pick, Moniak, who's ranked #30.
  10. Tyler Duffey, Tommy Milone, and Ricky Nolasco made a combined 59 starts last year. The best ERA of the bunch was 5.13. Topping that and losing 100 games again will be extremely difficult.
  11. Hopefully last year showed Sano that he has to actually try in order to be good.
  12. I've seen a few comments about a lack of excitement for the upcoming season, and I just don't get it. The opening day lineup will include Buxton, Sano, Kepler, and Polanco, plus Brian Dozier coming back shouldn't be looked at as a negative. The rotation is a little less exciting, but having Berrios and Mejia, and possibly May in the rotation near the start of the year is intriguing to me.
  13. Great Article Seth. Hopefully 2017 will be an injury-free year, and Tanner can show his potential as a 4th outfielder type player.
  14. I agree with this. Remember last offseason when so many people wanted the Twins to sign Bastardo or Sipp? That hasn't worked out too well.
  15. I think Berrios should be in the plans to start in the rotation, especially if shows good control during the spring. He's got to learn how to pitch to MLB hitters at some point. And he threw about 170 innings last year, so I wouldn't even worry about his innings count for 2017.
  16. Oh my bad. He's been off the ballot for 2 years now. How do the steroid voters not vote for him, with his numbers, and then vote for the other steroid guys? He was at 4.4%, which dropped him off. Still seems hypocritical to me.
  17. How can people include Bonds and Clemens, and then leave off Rafael Palmeiro? The guy had 569 HRs and 3020 hits. The hypocrisy with people who think steroid users should be in is pretty bad. Steroid users would not be on my ballot.
  18. Miguel Sano deserves some sort of a pass for the RF thing, but he was still disappointing last year, and a grade in the C range seems more appropriate.
  19. Brian Dozier had an .886 OPS and was 1 HR short of the MLB record for HRs by a 2B. That's a no question A+.
  20. I don't really see the match with the Giants. Their minor league system looks pretty bare, and I don't see anyone on the MLB roster that would make sense in a trade either. And Joe Panik doesn't look like his bat would profile well at third.
  21. Luke Weaver would be a nice headliner in a deal, especially if Alex Reyes is considered untouchable. It's definitely good to hear there's competition for the Dodgers to get Dozier.
  22. There's two recent top 10 prospects, a top 30ish prospect (Kepler), a top 50ish (Gordon), and a top 100 (Polanco) in that lineup. That doesn't seem too bad to me, especially with high upside guys like Lewin Diaz and Wander Javier who should be in the mix by 2020 as well.
  23. I'm looking forward to seeing what Brandon Lopez can do in a full season next year. You can't get too excited about a player's numbers when they're playing against younger competition, but he seems to have a good approach at the plate, and hopefully he can add a little power.
  24. It's a lot easier to be considered the team of the future when your prospects have yet to endure their struggles in the major leagues.
