  1. mlbtraderumors.com is reporting that Evan Gattis is a potential non-tender candidate, or in any event a trade candidate, given Houston's depth at catcher. I've been wondering about Gattis for quite awhile, and I've been surprised to see his name missing in the many threads that discuss the need to upgrade from Suzuki. While Gattis isn't likely to be the answer to life's persistent questions, he seems he'd be a definite upgrade from Suzuki, especially with the stick. Any thoughts? Here's the article from traderumors, which also talks about the recently departed Twins great, Dean Chance: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/al-west-notes-chance-gattis-castro-mariners.html
  2. Prediction: Berrios will finally be called up when Santana hits the DL after today's implosion. Diagnosis? Bilateral Arm Weakness. (full disclosure - I posted this same pathetic joke at hardballtalk...) I'm very pleased that May is returning to the rotation. I only wish he were swapping with Mike "Surely Saved Himself Last Night" Pelfrey. And I sure hope the severe inflammation and DL time off takes care of what ills Hughes.
  3. Yuck. Frankly, I'm not terribly confident in Duensing. Weird that the bullpen is our clear problem, no?
  4. Those curtains really tied the whole room together, man. Wait: That's 666. Not sure it's going to end well.
  5. These aren't terribly apt comparisons: Neither Maness nor Rosenthal are starting pitchers. Gonzalez pitched 13 games before getting called up, though not at AAA. But the Cardinals are in a very tight spot with two starters on the DL and a third, Shelby Miller (discussed above) having a rough season and now suffering a back injury (though it looks like he may avoid the DL).
  6. Ouch. Hope he's okay. Thanks for the update...
  7. What's up with the ump changes? I only have gameday going at the moment...
  8. Nice work, gentlemen! Now, see what you can do to get Bat-Girl back into baseball writing.
  9. Your mistake here is in thinking that Reusse and his minions ever use reportorial tools. Absolute hacks. Until the Twins Daily collective and Berardino showed up, we've had very little decent baseball reporting in our market, IMO. Reusse is utterly ridiculous.
  10. Love these updates, lightfoot. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
  11. Can Matt Guerrier go away now? I had such warm memories of the guy. :/
  12. This is easily the most depressing game of the season. To date. /bangs head
  13. I'm willing to pay up to $500-600 for a ticket. It's not quite a once in a lifetime event, but close enough, particularly at my age. While it's usually not a great game, etc., etc., I think it's worth it to see the spectacle and all of the amazing players collected into a single spot. It may just be sentimentality plus the fact that I can afford it, but I think it will be fun and I'm going to see if I can land a ticket or two. I might not be around the next time this happens, and it'll never be cheaper than when it's in my own hometown, I can ride my bike to/from the event, and sleep in my own bed at night.
  14. I think this Mauer kid just might work out after all.
  15. No, that's not what he said. The article stated this quite plainly: Never in our 50-minute conversation did Aaron suggest anyone critical of President Obama is racist. Never did he compare the Republican Party to the Ku Klux Klan. Simply, Aaron stated that we are fooling ourselves if we don't believe racism exists in our country. It's simply camouflaged now. And, yes, he feels sorry for his good friend, President Obama, and the frustrations he endures. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2014/04/14/jackie-robinson-day-mlb-hank-aaron-racism-still-exists/7723045/
  16. First, I agree with VodkaDave's points above. In addition, because we have no shortage of cash and nothing to spend it on at the moment, grabbing Drew on a 1 year contract and getting another "name" and a few more wins would put more butts in seats. It might be worth the 2nd round pick loss this year. Not sold entirely, but I don't think it's out of the question.
