  1. Personally I've always wanted to hear from Max Kepler. Aside from that, I like the idea of getting to know the top 10 guys. Eddie Rosario would be an interesting pick I'd have a feeling
  2. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all. Just wanted to get everyone's opinion/insights on sunday's game (4:15 pm) My online sports book has the line at GB -3 I'm really glad to have this one at home, quite frankly. I'm still worried about a motivated Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball with a bye on the line though. The guy is money, but GB has certainly looked mortal this year. I have a feeling this will come down to Ponder and whether or not he can just manage the offense, make a few throws and avoid any big mistakes. I'm really excited to see how our defense plays against GB- will we see the team that held Houston to 6 at home or will we get the D that let the Bucs drop 36 on us in the dome? I have a feeling we've matured defensively and will play some competitive ball. Again, I still think this game comes down to Ponder avoiding the big mistake down the stretch. Sunday's game might impact Ponder's future in MN. Not sure if AP will break the rushing record, but I think you can count him in for another solid performance. I'll be taking the Vikes +3 in this one. I see it going 23-16 good guys. Of course, our reward for such a result is a first round game at Lambeau assuming the 49ers don't choke one away against the Cards at home
  3. I keep seeing "oh, well if Liriano flounders he can just come out of the pen" ...Isn't 7M/yr a little much for a guy like him to be coming out of the pen? Obviously he is better in small doses, but his wildness won't just disappear. Comparatively, Mike Adams just signed for 2 yrs/12 M for the Phils. Adams isn't what he used to be but is clearly a step and a half above Liriano in bullpen value. I think the Pirates are expecting Liriano to start and continue to start for the money they are paying him.
  4. Please lord let it be Butera
  5. This thread has really given some good insight, thanks a lot guys
  6. I'd like to get an answer from someone who knows- which online baseball database/insider info site provides the best, most accurate information on prospects? On the majors? I'm looking for advanced statistical analysis that's accessible. I hear fangraphs/BA/BP/other names get tossed around, but which one is actually the most informative? I'm planning on starting a subscription, so I was hoping someone knowledgeable would be able to point me (and others) in the right direction. Didn't want to hijack the thread, but I feel like this info is useful to everyone.
  7. One more 50+ yarder this year and he gets the single season record for most 50+ yard field goals I believe. With our offense you gotta believe he'll get a couple cracks at it. Send him to the Pro Bowl
  8. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS #twins agree to terms with mike pelfrey. Expect him to be ready opening day. Still looking for yet another starter. Does this mean we have another bargain bin pitcher in the works to be signed?
  9. Have the terms been released yet? I forgot he was coming off TJ. Maybe 1 yr with a club option?
  10. Interesting observation. I don't really read too much into it- that's just the way things turned out. Clearly this was the OP's intention as well- to make a random observation some might find interesting. BTW, it's possible to make an observation regarding race without being racist, but I guess some people will never be able to resist the alluring chance to sprint to imagined moral high ground and charge others with racism.
  11. Glad to see this, sounds like he's a great guy. More importantly, if he can stay healthy it seems like he could be a solid ballplayer. I know it's been commented on, but I also love this guy's stache. Wish I could grow one like that
  12. How soon is the earliest we can expect to see a change in GM? That quote is ghastly
  13. The D Backs must've really not been hot on Bauer. Makes you wonder what the Twins could have nabbed him for. Really intriguing, this looks good for the Indians and Reds
  14. Any word on how well Sano's glove is playing?
  15. Can this really be happening...what's wrong with letting some of the scrubs we ran out last year fill Correia's spot at a far less expensive cost? 5M/year in addition to some of our offers out to guys like marcum/jackson/others might have made the difference and actually allowed us to sign someone who won't end up Blackburning at the bare minimum. I hope this is some kind of joke On another note: how did Correia end up making the AS game in 2011? Kevin Correia Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com That's almost as funny as us tossing him a multi-year deal
  16. Absolutely thrilled with this trade. We have the depth to make this trade, plus honestly I never saw Revere as part of a long term solution. A great guy, but this is about as high as his value could be- good work Terry Ryan on pulling the trigger. We addressed an immediate and future need in one fell swoop, dealt from a strength. I live with a bunch of Philly fans (both a blessing and a curse) and their reaction isn't ecstatic. They seemed to think May was due for a big year after last, the consensus being that a one-for-one trade w/ May or Worley would have been more appropriate. Definitely a general feeling of having overpayed I just hope these guys can stay healthy and contribute
  17. Panic? No. The Bravos were the most appealing trade partner, but certainly not the only one capable of providing what the Twins are after. I know it's been pointed out already, but it's important to remember that one fewer CF on the open market should increase Span's relative value. Other teams may start to become more desperate- something that benefits the Twins greatly.
  18. Any chance Butera is being sold off? My apartment building needs another doorman
  19. Pitching "slumps" far, far less than hitting. Good pitching never goes out of style. Play-in games aside, the playoffs are far from a crap shoot.
  20. To quote Reggie Jackson, it's because "they don't boo nobodies." Derek Jeter is the captain, the iconic yankee. I respect the man immensely for how he conducts himself on and off the field. I boo him because he is the face of the Yankees, a franchise that has dealt my beloved Twins many devastating blows over the last decade. It's not personal- it's just the way it has to be.
  21. I don't see Mauer moving- at all. I'm starting to get more excited at the prospect of moving Morneau, however, if he continues to show flashes of his old self. He could be a real commodity next year if he stays healthy and plays well enough. IMO, the Twins have to move him if this is the case. Enough with these sentimental thoughts of seeing him retire as a Twin. I like him, but this is a business damnit: if we can get solid prospects for him next year, we have to make the shrewd decision and ship him off. Hopefully the 1B market continues to be thin.
  22. It would be fantastic to get Torii back. He's old, but he's playing well. I'd much enjoy his veteran leadership back. The only question I have about him is can the Twins make room for another OF? Span would have to be dealt, barring an injury. Freddy Garcia is also intriguing. He's shown the ability to miss some bats this year. His ERA isn't pretty this year, however, and he hasn't thrown 160 innings since 2006. If he can be durable and post an ERA around 4, I'd be tickled pink. I see him signing for closer to 3M though rather than 3.5 or 4 this season. I'd be excited to get Joba. He throws hard and could thrive in Minnesota. If he's healthy he could be a real valuable asset and perhaps serve as trade bait around the deadline. I'd imagine he would have quite a few suitors this offseason though. Some guys just can't do it in NY and I think a bounceback is anticipated by many. Nice thread.
  23. Well said and excellent analogy- I've often argued that such a philosophy should also be applied to corporations and the private sector at large. If I had one word to describe the Twins the past couple seasons, without using profanity, I would choose "stagnant." Losing is certainly not all Gardy's fault, but sometimes in business you have to cut ties and move forward to get the results you want. Gardy should be let go after this season to inject new life and change the perception of this team. The organization still needs to put a more talented group on the field, no doubt, but Gardy needs to be replaced as part of an effort to revitalize this organization and get back to the promised land.
  24. Very true. The regular season is important, yes, but the playoffs are where champions are crowned. I really hope that most fans aren't happy to just sit around and gawk at AL Central Champion banners. It's not all Gardy's fault, but I would welcome any change that might clear out the haze of complacency I fear has hovered over the clubhouse.
  25. From the perspective that Morneau to the Dodgers would've been mainly just a salary dump, I'm glad the Twins held out. Morneau's production is picking up, meaning that there's a good chance we could get legitimate prospects for him next year if he continues to put it together. Sell high, my friends.
