I remember Ryan sounded almost disgusted when he talked about the new approach to drafting pitchers. Said something like: there's been this complaint for awhile we don't go after power pitchers so we did this year...the look on his face when saying it was like he was sniffing a fart...

Well, he also had a low ERA, 242 complete games, 60 shutouts, and was 3rd in Ks when he retired and still sits 5th. It's amazing he didn't get in much, much sooner.

You don't think Detroit is the clear and obvious forerunner? What with having the best team last year, having that great rotation for a full year this year, while getting VMart back and getting Hunter? Your breakdown of what the other teams in the division did is pretty, um, inaccurate. Not sure how you can expect our team, the worst in the AL the last two seasons, to somehow improve by almost 20 games after downgrading the offense and defense and filling the rotation with question marks.

The following post was written by another Twins fan but it matches my views and couldn't have written it better myself: If TR is going to blame 2011 on injuries, why on Earth is he building a rotation around surgery rehabs? Four of the projected starters are coming off of some of kind of operation, how does that make any sense at all? Not to mention that Correia is just plain awful. I do like Diamond, but his numbers didn't hold up over the second half, which is generally how it works for a lot of pitchers, once the hitters have seen your stuff, it's easier to hit it. I like the Harden signing, but let's see him break camp before we speculate on his role. I understand where this organization is from a rebuilding standpoint, but you can't call what's listed here a competetive lineup, and that's far from an effective rotation. Payroll is below $80 million, and the FO gets extremely defensive when the question is brought up, which rightfully raises an eyebrow. Either the FO sincerely thinks this questionable roster will win more than 70 games, or they just don't want to own up the disaster this franchise has become. Either scenario makes me a little bit sad, and I personally think it's a little bit of both.

yeah, but then again, no one said 'Yeah I can't think of one real "bust" that the Rangers drafted high'. Gonna come out with a comment like that, gonna get called on it...and it doesn't mater if other teams had the same issues. -

Unfortunately, for a team that values durability over effectiveness, they went out and got players who aren't durable...I mean, besides their worst acquisition (Correia)...and didn't get Saunders who is both effective and durable...

It's like in football...the guy who takes the shot first, gets away with it. Or, you know, maybe it's a matter of ignoring the person who takes the first shot because they agree with what he said (regardless of how he said it..and in Twerps case, extremely, over-the-top rude...deserving of getting completely slammed) and instead criticizing the people who take offense to such an offensive childish post.

That would depend on your definition of 'drafted high' and/or 'bust' -
'Q: What are you demanding of this new rotation? A: Health. If we're healthy, I think we'll be OK. ' So it makes sense he traded for a pitcher who was hurt last year (Worley) and signed a guy coming off TJ surgery (Pelfrey) and, of course, a guy with a healthy track record of Harden...

What would you say if I told you that over the last two seasons, Saunders and Anibel Sanchez had almost exactly the same ERA+ (107, 103 for Saunders...106, 105 for Sanchez) while pitching almost exactly the same amount of innings (392 for Sanchez...386 2/3 for Saunders)?

yeah, I mean, look at a guy like Ichiro. two time batting champ, 4 times with an BA of .350 or higher. only had an OBP in the .400s once. Mauer has been over .400 5 times.

Um, oh...steady....that's an interesting description of a player like Mauer.
