  1. nope....even when they signed Nishi, they questioned his arm and pegged him to play 2B...then there was an uproar of deciding it so quickly, especially after our shortstop was shipped off, so they backpedaled and said they'd determine who played where in ST (our famous ST battles), and one week into ST, magically, Casilla was the starting shortstop...kind of what we knew was gonna happen all along. When Nishi broke his leg, he was playing 2B and Casilla was at shortstop
  2. Hardy was moved cause Gardy wanted him gone. Gardy said, even before Hardy was traded, that Casilla would compete with Hardy for shortstop in part cause he wanted speed. Bill Smith moved Hardy because Gardy wanted him gone (or rather, that Gardy wanted speed and Gardy said one of the spots speed could be improved was shortstop). Smith made that clear.
  3. They overspent on mediocrity when they paid Correia what they did
  4. In 2007 (six seasons ago), our payroll was 71.4M. According to the inflation calculator at dollartimes, that equates to the buying power of 79.8M today. So we're gonna be right at where we were in 2007 in the Metrodome and baseball salaries have gone up a lot more than normal inflation. So, really, we'll be behind Metrodome spending.
  5. I want my best hitter and they guy who hits best with RISP to bat third. In this case, that's Mauer. I'll put my best power hitter at #4. If it's the same guy (like Pujols for years) I'll bat him 3rd.
  6. See my post right above. And I get what you're saying.
  7. Sites I normally chat about baseball in aren't keen on having links posted...some just get straight deleted...and I can understand why...especially if it's another news site. I have to get used to the fact it's okay here.
  8. I'll file your advice, given rudely as always, in the proper file. I believe it's round... hey, weren't you just complaining about somone insulting you on this site? Again, okay for you to do it.
  9. I figured when I put in the quotes, people would know I was getting it from somewhere else.
  10. yeah, if you google it, the quote I posted shows up...just copied and pasted. Google: Twins shut down Pelfrey. See what pops up at the top and what's written. It's what I put verbatim. In fact, here's a link http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=active&tbo=d&spell=1&q=twins+shutdown+pelfrey&sa=X&ei=a93hUPuDKMHLqQGO5oCQDw&ved=0CC4QBSgA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=a7e118819f5e1e5b&bpcl=40096503&biw=1260&bih=701
  11. okay, all I was doing was giving info. I'm not sure why all the shots. I figured most had read it already and for those who didn't, was letting them know.
  12. Pelfrey comes aboard just in time to be shut down | StarTribune.com
  13. 'Pitcher Mike Pelfrey officially joined the Twins on Thursday and promptly was shut down from participating in his offseason program. '
  14. Thought I'd share a quote from a person who listened to Sid Hartman interview Terry Ryan very recently: 'I'm totally fed up after listening to Ryan on Sid Hartman this AM. No more moves in the off season as he's content going into the season with what we have. He's so darn proud of all the pitching upgrades made this off season. To tout to us the fans the signing of two guys that pitched in a grand total of 3 games in 2012 as major moves.'
  15. Yeah, that'd be a crying shame :-) Like you, it always cracks me up to see people aggressively saying that the team SHOULDN'T go get players to make the team better...you know, aggressively defending the team's payroll cutting for a 2nd year in a row after two horrific seasons. Just boggles my mind. In this case, as if it's a guarantee Mays and Meyer work out and are good, that Gibson is very good, etc. If you end up with too much pitching talent(which we are in no danger of whatsoever), then that's awesome and maybe someday we can do what Tampa does, trade that for other needs using the pitching. Again though, there's no reason to believe we'll be in that situation any time soon...
  16. Did anyone read Gleeman's latest article on Mauer, dated Dec 28?
  17. Darren Wolfson had reported that the Twins were in constant talks with multiple pitchers, but never made any of them an offer. Joe Blanton would have come here for 3 years, but the Twins refused to offer him anymore than they gave Correia.
  18. Yeah, a buffoon...that he started as a bartender and has made himself into a billionaire. Yeah, what a buffoon... And the Mavericks are obviously worse off with him as their owner, considering they haven't missed the playoffs since he bought them in 2000. He IS passionate about his team, though, and is willing to do what it takes for them to win. It'd be HORRIBLE to have that kind of owner...
  19. When asked about whether or not the Twins were done looking for pitching: "I wouldn't day we're done," assistant General Manager Rob Antony said. "I wouldn't say were pushing hard. We have our feelers out there. If the situation is right, we could do something else. If not, we're O.K. too...''
  20. when asked if the Twins were done looking for pitching, Anthony said: "I wouldn't day we're done," assistant General Manager Rob Antony said. "I wouldn't say were pushing hard. We have our feelers out there. If the situation is right, we could do something else. If not, we're O.K. too...''
  21. I agree with you, he'd be great...but Reinsdorf wields some serious weight in the game and he doesn't want him as an MLB owner.
  22. As opposed to how you talked to me when we were originally having this debate? It's okay if YOU do the insulting...just not vice versa. And I'm kind of wondering how it is all these other people are making very similar points to what I was making on this same debate, some exactly the same, but you aren't overtly insulting them.
  23. Draft Pick Compensation 1. Starting in 2012, “Type A” and “Type B” free agents and the use of the Elias ranking system will be eliminated. 2. The current system of draft pick compensation will be replaced with the following system: A. Only Players who have been with their Clubs for the entire season will be subject to compensation. B. A free agent will be subject to compensation if his former Club offers him a guaranteed one-year contract with a salary equal to the average salary of the 125-highest paid Players from the prior season. The offer must be made at the end of the five-day free agent “quiet period,” and the Player will have seven days to accept the offer. C. A Club that signs a player subject to compensation will forfeit its first round selection, unless it selects in the top 10, in which case it will forfeit its second highest selection in the draft. D. The Player’s former Club will receive a selection at the end of the first round beginning after the last regularly scheduled selection in the round. The former Clubs will select based on reverse order of winning percentage from the prior championship season.
  24. Assuming the prospects work out or aren't stifled in the minors, you could very well be right
  25. No, originally when you jumped all over me, all I had said to the one guy who listed factors as to why quality pitchers weren't coming here was that money could be an additional factor since he hadn't mentioned money...and you jumped all over that calling the idea ridiculous and without thought and on and on. Basically you said that even if we were the top bidders for every quality pitcher, every single pitcher would pass since money is never a factor. I mentioned that, on occasion, maybe money is the issue...and you said that was a ridiculous notion. BTW, in all that research, how many of the big spenders have been in last place two seasons in a row? I asked that question after you turned it that way and never got a response. And since you say 'last two years'. What about LAST offseason? What was the excuse then? In any event, I have no desire to continue arguing with you...my response to him was accurate...there are people who believe this offseason isn't about payroll cutting. You are just one example.
