  1. I think Reusse's probably right. Gardy has always timed Mauer and Morneau's days off for games against LH starters, I assume he will do the same for Parmelee. Not quite a straight up platoon but at the least Parmelee will be filling in at 1B sometimes, if he's not the guy sitting that day. Its going to be a lot to juggle but Gardy's always been pretty good at it IMHO.
  2. It becomes moot if Hicks falls flat, it becomes moot if Hicks succeeds and the team works out an extension. It becomes moot if Arcia, Kepler, Buxton, or whoever else are ready to displace him within the next 4-5 years. It becomes more moot if the team can package him into a favorable trade. Hicks' service clock not a serious debate "industry observers" are having. This is a puff piece.
  3. Nobody budgets for 20 year commitments to their employees, that was the point I was contesting. No union will be able to bargain for that. And to repeat again, nobody's furture's are being compromised here. Heck some employees might stand to benefit from this. We certainly haven't heard any of the same indignation from the employees who will actually be effected by this. So where is the logic that says "they need to start blowing 2 percent of their wages on union dues!" coming from?
  4. MLB because no contract was broken and nobody was screwed out of any guaranteed money
  5. Something soemthing world's smallest violin. Get it in writing next time!
  6. This is how threads get derailed. To clarify, again. Nobody hates Correia. In fact, he is a pleasant fellow. The argument is only that Correia is neither: a "pretty darn good pitcher" an "innings eater" an improvement over the in-house options proved himself worthy of a job for 2013, much less 2014
  7. 1. Mauer and Willingham each receive MVP votes 2. Cole DeVries is the Twins leader in IP and ERA 3. Parmelee struggles to keep Darin Mastroianni from taking his job 4. Vance Worley struggles to keep a starting job 5. Kevin Correia struggles to keep a starting job
  8. I know it won't happen but I'd like to see them carry a 13th pitcher, Hernandez probably. So Gardy can micro manage the bullpen or just get his starters out before they face a lineup for a 3rd or 4th time if the situation gets critical. I feel like there's a lot of runs that could be saved that way. Plus if you look at pinch hitting, unless you're talking about Jim Thome, guys suffer a severe penalty. Someone who OPS's in the 800s as a starter will, in a PH role, OPS at or in some cases below the guys they are batting for. Look at the batting avg. and AB/HR stats for the last 3 years: 2012 MLB Team Batting Stats - Major League Baseball - ESPN Then again, the Twins had a winning record last year when Butera started, so maybe that is the way to go.
  9. The other thing is, when Mauer goes the other way, the ball tends to stay in the air. When he pulls the ball, that's when he hits it on the ground. Either way, mission accomplished. Runner advances.
  10. I was aware of Bauer, I think he'll be up soon because, its the Indians. Hadn't heard about Chapman. Oh well, whatever.
  11. Anyone else notice when they interviewed Maddon in the dugout yesterday, he explained how they looked at RBI opportunities, and found that the 4 hitter had significantly more opps. than the 3 hitter?
  12. Since you guys didn't get to see it evidently, the highlight of the game was probably in the bottom of the 4th, Dozier made a nice between the legs backup play at 1B http://i.imgur.com/lrJy0ay.gif

  14. They wouldn't even switch the channel for you guys? On one t.v? I have never understood that. Some bartenders are happy to oblige, others get all butthurt when you ask. Its a crapshoot. The worst for me was 1 time at Kieran's in 2010. If you don't know, that bar is 2 blocks from Target Field, it was packed with Twins fans for a noon game on Saturday, and because they're a Irish "pub" I guess, had world cup soccer playing. Refused our requests to switch to the Twins on one t.v. Haven't been back since.
  15. 1. Verlander 2. Strasburg 3. Chapman, 4. Darvish, 5. Sanchez, 6. Bauer
  16. The CBA might be making Boras's job more stressful but I would be curious to know if he has actually done any worse by it. He's not actually panicking about Lohse, that seems to be a media narrative. It seems like typically one of the big names has gone down with TJ by this point in the spring. Whenever it finally happens this year, that will be Lohse's opening and he will get paid. Someone will blink.
  17. Parmelee has looked confused by that inside comebacker all night. Phelps got him with two strikeouts and Robertson just got strike two with it.
  18. Hendriks looked good. His breaking pitch was working for him and he got at least one big swing and miss from Hafner with the change.
  19. I think the doctors have generally believed that the UCL is stressed more during supination, not pronation, correct? After all the TJs to sinkerballers recently, the medical community might want to take a closer look I guess. It doesn't seem like anyone is safe anymore.
  20. No, Donny. Lenin. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov!
  21. I am short on sympathy for anyone who thinks they have signed up for a 20 year commitment from their employer to never change their wages or benefits, or lay them off. The pension funds accrued to this point will not disappear and that's all you could reasonably expect IMHO.
  22. Don't forget all the things that went right last year: Fien, Burton, Perkins, Burnett, Diamond, Capps, DeVries, Deduno all outperformed their peripherals. Burton and Fien were healthy for a full season. Perkins' has a history of back and shoulder problems, none of which re-curred last year. I guess I'm not so quick to look at 2012 as some fluky deviation from the mean. In a lot of ways, we got lucky.
  23. I wonder how often teams would bunt, successfully, if Plouffe were allowed to play further back. I suspect it wouldn't be that much.
  24. Did the catcher at any point lose a call on a borderline pitch, call time, take off his helmet and do a lap around home plate so he could cool off?
  25. Someone in another thread asked, why would GardyAndy put a pitch limit on a 29 y/o journeman making min. wage anyway?
