  1. I've not read anything suggesting McKay has mid-90s velo. 90-94 was/is the book on him. But there's been no mention of a cutter until recently.
  2. Yeah in lieu of injury I think its possible, maybe likely the 88-90 velo readings were the cutter, which could be a welcome development actually. BTW in that start everyone is so concerned about McKay did throw 5 shutout innings, striking out 7 (3 walks, 5 hits). Part of the love/hate following this stuff thirdhand.
  3. Wright's definitely got some helium. I'd like to see him finish the year strong and separate himself. Right now his YoY trends are relatively flat, McKay's are more explosive. Wright should have one more regular season start then at least one in the SEC tourney.
  4. Has the inverted W stuff been debunked though?
  5. I'm really baffled why Adell isn't in the conversation for 1-1. Kid has 22 home runs, most in the country. He has 7 strikeouts IIRC. Buxton ran a 6.57 60-yard dash. Adell runs a 6.60. Clocked at 97. Won the Perfect Game HR derby last year. Multiple dingers in the 100+ exit velo. Hit one 448 feet (a record). ??? Why isn't this guy on the front page of SI?
  6. Maybe I'm just following this class more closely, but it looks like a good year to do just that. Especially if McKay continues to slide and the consensus #1 becomes less clear. There are a ton of guys in the 6-22 range on Callis's board I'd love to get (plus Rooker). Have to think we could make a deal with a few of those guys if we have the $$.
  7. Dunno about O'leary, but gotta think he'd like Sam Carlson's hand position at planting:
  8. Trevor Rogers' stats on maxpreps: http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/trevor-rogers/vFIgNaD7EeOzMAAmVebBJg/gendersport/baseball-stats.htm K-rate 2016: 45.2% 2017: 60.1%
  9. Callis put a mock up last Friday: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/229743034/jim-callis-mock-projection-2017-mlb-draft/
  10. None of that I'd consider very likely. Kinda sobering. I want to believe but maybe the smart move is to sell this year as Law says.
  11. Since joining the Red Wings Granite has gone 9-29 with 0 walks, 2 k's, 4 steals, and 0 CS's. A double is his only xbh. Last Friday against the Pawtucket Red Sox, Granite hit an 0-2 curveball off Jamie Callahan to give the Red Wings the lead in the top of the 9th. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=1379127283&sid=t534
  12. Keith Law weighs in on the Twins early success on Buster Olney's podcast. @ 15:40 http://play.podtrac.com/espn-baseballtonightwithbusterolney/c.espnradio.com/audio/3354214/baseball_2017-05-15-105614.64k.mp3?ad_params=zones%3DPreroll%2CPreroll2%2CMidroll%2CMidroll2%2CMidroll3%2CMidroll4%2CMidroll5%2CMidroll6%2CPostroll%2CPostroll2%7Cstation_id%3D641
  13. I would love to see what Gibson could do in 1 inning bursts. Hughes is pretty crafty, a lot craftier than I expected before the year. I'd give him some leash.
  14. Press will come around, his stuff is too good. He's not a 2.2 HR/9 pitcher.
  15. Haley, Wilk, and if possible Breslow. That's an easy one Doc!
  16. Kintzler and Rogers have each thrown 3 days in a row. This is the second time this year for Rogers. Its borderline if not definitely overuse and these guys are going to burn out. The solution is two fold IMO: one, add one legitimate bullpen weapon to expand Molitor's options (like Robertson). Two, institute a policy as Girardi has in NY: No pitching 3 days in a row and no pitching 4 out of 5 days. Duffey was available today, he could have thrown. Press could have thrown. With a 3 run lead he didn't need to lean on those two for the third day in a row.
  17. Rooker continues to pace the entire NCAA in slugging. Now sits at .409/.509/.898 (1.407). With 20 home runs he only trails Ben Fisher of Eastern KY and Niko Hulsizer of Morehead St (who have 21). edit: Jake Burger (Missouri St) also has 20.
  18. McKay's teammate Drew Ellis is having a hell of a year. Redshirted in 2015, he's in his second full season of action. 6' 2, 192, R/R, plays 3B, corner OF and 1B. He hit .309/.426/.468 in his first year. This year he has improved to .392/.486/.722 (1.208) with 13 home runs against 31 strikeouts in 211 PAs (14.7%). He was 3-4 last night with a double.
  19. Friday night notables: FL vs AL Faedo: 7.0, 3, 1, 4, 8 Louisville vs Clemson: McKay: 0-3, 1BB, 1K McKay: 5.0, 5, 0, 3, 7 Vandy vs. AR Kendall: 1-3, 1SB, 2K Miss St. vs GA Rooker: 2-3, 1HR, 1BB, 1K Oregon St vs OR Peterson: 5.0, 4, 4, 4, 5 UCLA vs. Wash. St Canning: 7.0, 10, 4, 2, 6 VA and UNC didn't play.
  20. Well this should be fun. Kintler the day after a five out save.
  21. Like a Quintana + Robertson trade?
  22. Is that actually true?
