  1. I think if you did it, Toronto picks 9 and 27 would be your target, giving them the chance to trade up and take Murray. Then of course, the question becomes how far does Valentine fall?
  2. He also tanked in 311 plate appearances in Rochester last year. He hasn't hit since 2014, and that's kind of problematic when your only tool is your bat.
  3. Ortiz was a stupid move because he'd actually was becoming a better hitter in his time with the Twins. His last year he slugged .500 over 466 PAs. The knock was could he stay healthy, and when he did he became a star. The problem with Arcia is he has spent the last three seasons regressing. It's sad, and maybe being DFA'ed sparks something in him. But you can't keep a player who refuses to evolve.
  4. Okafor for the 5 doesn't interest me. Russell for the five though...
  5. With Love/Towns. you'd have Towns in his strongest defensive position. With Okafor/Towns you'd create two problem defensive areas, akin to Towns/Dieng this year.
  6. I think that's the big wart on Murray. He's never going to be long or athletic enough to be a plus defender or a traditional point guard. The question becomes can he get good enough at dishing the ball to become a CJ McCollum-type of shooting guard. With Dunn, you trade out the defensive worries for the shooting and turnover ones. With Hield, you still have defensive worries and he's not as sharp of passer as Murray. On the positive side, his length and athleticism give him a chance at defending where Murray will probably always be a net minus. It's really pick your poison at the 5 pick. Or, more to the point, what type of team do you want to build?
  7. FWIW, NBADraft.net has us passing on Bender and Murray to grab Marquess Chriss. Which is a little too bold for my taste.
  8. 1. Ingram (from the Wolves standpoint) 2. Simmons 3. Bender. 4. Pull a name out of a hat? Murray, Dunn, Hield. They all have big strengths and equally big weaknesses-- the biggest one being we kind of need a small forward or power forward more than another guard. Still, you have to go BPA and my gut says Murray, Hield then Dunn.
  9. The new Bill Simmons project had an interesting article about Love last week. The key quote was: "In an ideal scenario, Love needs a more offensive-minded version of Chandler, a guy who can command a double-team and collapse interior defenses like his former teammate Nikola Pekovic, while still being able to step out on the perimeter and give Love room to operate in the post. In other words, Love needs a unicorn. A unicorn like Karl-Anthony Towns." With that said, I think Cleveland wants a new member of a big three if they trade Love and we don't have a lot of high salary stars right now. You'd need a three-team trade. Rubio/Lavine/Wiggins/Love/Towns would be a fun lineup to dream about though.
  10. I like the chutzpah in offering the 5 pick to the Bulls for Butler. I almost wonder if the better (and less costly move) long term is getting into the Kevin Love sweepstakes though.
  11. The overarching bright side is between Faedo, Bukakas, Houck, Wright and Beck, it's a good year to suck if your biggest need is a college pitcher with big upside in the 2017 Draft.
  12. I'm a big believer that every draft geek should do a Shadow Draft to remind themselves how hard this drafting thing is.
  13. Trying to read this thread made my head hurt. Or rhyme too much.
  14. My real hope is that next year when we pick number 1 there's an undisputed number 1 pick.
  15. You kind of have to feel bad for Kevin Love. He's going to be the scapegoat for the Cavs losing this series, and it really isn't his fault the Cavs have decided to turn him into Mike Miller.
  16. Twins scouts release footage of the front runner to be picked at #15.
  17. I always root for the Twins. But I readily admit the Giants have gone from my number 2 team to my 1B team.
  18. In an ideal world, they're looking to bring in a defensive-minded power forward and wing. And in a perfect world they both can shoot. Ibaka would be the perfect power forward to pair with Towns. Butler would be the perfect wing to pair with Wiggins and Lavine. But the five pick is the starting point for each of those players. My gut feeling is Thibs is looking to trade down for more picks, unless they're seriously considering Thon Maket at five. I don't think there's a wrong or right answer. Whatever they use it for, Thibs just needs it to work.
  19. An interesting article on translated three point% in moving from NCAA to NBA. http://www.canishoopus.com/2016/5/19/11718478/evaluating-the-shooters-of-the-2016-nba-draft
  20. IMO, with this draft there are two guys who could step into a starting lineup right away, and they'll be gone after the first two picks. At five, you're looking for a guy who can fill a role for a couple of years and potentially step into the starting lineup two years down the road. Hield or Murray could play 20 minutes a game with Wiggins and Lavine and space the floor so they can attack the hoop. You hope Hield lives up to his defensive potential enough to become a Wes Matthews-type or Murray gets good enough with ball-movement to be a James Harden type. Jaylen Brown is the three that might be available, but the flaw to him from the Wolves standpoint is he's too similar too Wiggins. From a power forward standpoint, you're looking for a guy who can defend the modern four, shoot and rebound to complement Towns. Ellenson and Sabonis can shoot and rebound, but they're probably never going to be quick enough to be good defenders. Chriss can shoot and defend, but he's a horrible rebounder. Davis can defend and rebound, but he's a questionable shooter. Bender might be able to do all three, emphasis on might. The old joke is good, fast, and cheap, pick two. It feels like that's this draft, to an extent on both potential wings and bigs.
  21. I could see the Celtics passing on Bender for Murrary or Hield. They lost their playoff series on three point shooting and the big man they need probably has to be strong and tall enough to defend in the paint. Phoenix would be less likely. I'd have to rank the remaining five: Murray Hield Ellenson Dunn Just About Anybody Else Brown
  22. To me, the question now becomes will the Celtics and Suns pass on Bender.
  23. In obvious news, the guy who won all the NBA Rookie of the Month awards to be named Rookie of the year.
  24. I wouldn't assume Dunn is a better shot than Rubio. He never cracked 70% as a free throw shooter at Providence and that's usually a sign a player will struggle at shooting in the NBA. I'd wager he finishes better at the rim than Rubio at the NBA level, as that's what holds Rubio's shooting percentage down. To me, if Dunn can cut his turnover rate in the NBA he can maybe be Rondo. If he doesn't, he's more likely MCW. I'd rather take a shot at Murray or Hield in that mock draft, though.
  25. Ugh, I'm really glad I didn't put together a list this year.
