  1. I don't think anybody said this was the definitive championship roster. After this season though, when Garnett and (maybe) Pek come off the books, you'll have plenty of money to play with and a better understanding what the team's holes are. And, (hopefully not) another lotto pick to add another piece plus New Orleans' second rounder to add some talent. Given the 2017 free agent class, you won't land Steph Curry. But there's plenty of good 3s and 4s about to hit the market that will cure a lot of problems.
  2. I really need to try Phlegm's restaurant if I make it to St. Cloud in the near future.
  3. Lavine keeps the team in it. Wiggins hits the game tying 3. Rubio forces an airball on the last shot in regulation. Dieng hit the three that stretches the lead in overtime. Even Bjelica played a great game. I love it when everyone maligned comes through.
  4. I'd also add to that I'm not sure it would be possible for the Wolves' wing defense to be any worse this year. To illustrate:
  5. And as George Hill continues to dominate, why Dunn is the point guard of the future.
  6. I would also point out this fourth quarter is showing exactly what Rubio brings to the floor, and why he is the point guard of the present.
  7. All hail the bizzaro second half.
  8. I think part of it though is the main lineup consists of one point guard, two shooting guards and two centers. There are always going to be mismatches to be had, and coaches making millions are going to be smart enough to exploit them. Boston came back because they found the mismatches (Brown on Wiggins in the post and Towns/Dieng chasing Jerkebo outside) and the offense seemed too gassed to take advantage of the Jerkebo mismatch on Dieng/Towns on the other end of the court. The next big piece this team needs is a guy off the bench who can be a big ball 3/small ball 4 so you can put Wiggins at the 2 when needed or sit Dieng and have a guy who can chase stretch fours outside. If it were my team, I'd be looking to drop Lucas for a D-Leaguer who fits that bill. Four point guards and four wings isn't smart roster construction.
  9. I kind of wonder how much effect the minutes Wiggins and Lavine have had to play with the injuries to Rush and Muhammed came into play the last two games. Boston erased a 15-point lead in about seven minutes with a lineup that had Jaylen Brown on the floor last night. It seems the next piece this team needs is a great defensive wing off the bench. You have to wonder how long John Lucas is going to hold on to the last roster spot with three cromulent point guards on the roster and a dearth of wings. On the bright side, the Timberwolves draft slot on DraftExpress right now projects to OG Anouby and Jonathan Isaac on NBADraft.net-- both of whom could be that great defensive wing.
  10. I love this Wiggins write up from last-night's game: https://theringer.com/james-harden-has-great-chemistry-with-the-blazers-8ac496e7c7ce#.gs685om5n
  11. If you told me at the beginning of the year Wiggins would take a big step up in rebounds and assists, that Bjelica would take a step forward and even Payne would resemble an NBA player, but the Wolves would start 4-7,I don't think I'd have believed you.
  12. Because it needs to be said, god damn, no good, third quarter.
  13. A 3-1 stretch over this four-game homestand would be nothing to sneeze at. Clips tonight are the toughest out. Lakers and 76ers are kind of must wins.
  14. Things will be better when Rubio is back. With that said, I'm starting to wonder if Tyus is going to be the backup point guard when Rubio comes back over Dunn.
  15. I think it's more of an understanding that a rookie point guard is probably going to have to be Hall of Fame/50 Best Player quality to step right in and lead a team to the playoffs. Very few rookies have an immediate impact. That isn't a knock against Dunn. It's saying you need Dunn learning how to be a starting quality point guard in year 2/3, with Rubio giving you your best chance at current success. We really have missed Rubio the last couple of games, with the possible exception of that game where Memphis was playing a skeletal crew.
  16. I still want to know what's going wrong in the third quarter. But tonight was the first game they had no chance in. The next step forward is getting something resembling defense out of Wiggins and Lavine. That Bazzy seems to be the best defensive wing so far is kind of frightening.
  17. If the NBA would just abolish the 3rd quarter, we'd be undefeated.
  18. I think you have to caveat it that both Dunn and Tyus are better than Wade Baldwin, and there will be people ready to trade Rubio after this without noticing that Conley isn't playing. With that said, you can't deny Dunn's athleticism and defense.
  19. Given the first two games, I'm curious how they blow a 26 point lead at half.
  20. It's tough to say that a 4.7 MLB BB/9 rate is an outlier for a guy who averaged 3.5 in his minor league career. Maybe he's not Hoey. But then again, it's not like he's had pinpoint control coming up. I'm going to let this one play out.
  21. If this doesn't make for an interesting year, I don't know what does.
  22. Ben Bentil just hit the waiver wire. The Wolves have a potential roster spot. I wonder if they make a move there or if they're looking for more of a wing.
  23. I know it's preseason, but I'm not sure I can remember the last time the Wolves had a 37 point lead.
  24. It's kind of amazing to me how much better the defense looks so far in the preseason. Dunn, in particular, is really bringing it to the defensive end of the floor.
