  1. Doesn't really matter what you do and don't buy. The reality is they don't have one guy on the roster that is a sure thing to make it through the season as a productive OF. They'll want some guaranteed floor as a backup plan, or perhaps you haven't had enough of utility guys getting starts.
  2. They shouldn't and likely won't, but they will need a veteran OF of some type.
  3. And Cubs fans hate Castro right now, so pretty much the exact opposite on that account.
  4. The recall of Mauer and Gibson strike me as different transactions/situations. So, hypothetically, if Meyer blows out his arm next appearance in Rochester, he is put on the AAA dl and then is activated in the offseason and spends the entire season on the mlb dl? Assuming they don't remove him from the 40 man? I don't know the rules well enough on this specific transaction, but I also think it is 99.9% a moot point for a position player.
  5. Are you sure, I thought guys injured while optioned stay on milb injury lists. If someone is injured in spring training before being optioned, they would remain on the mlb disabled list, which is why the 40 man guys who aren't going to make the 25 man get moved out so quickly.
  6. Robinson is such a red herring in discussing Buxton. Teams aren't going to bring elite prospects up that aren't fully developed to play part time because they are better than 4th ofs (before September). This is player development 101. Even an incompetent org like the Twins can figure that out. People do understand how teams build depth with prospects and don't have them up in the bigs to play part time roles right? There is a reason that veteran players or low ceiling guys take bench spots for most of the year.
  7. You mean other than the 7 weeks he just spent not playing baseball? The fact he has serious injury concerns? Or the fact he struggled mightily his first go around? Do you want the guy to have the best chance to succeed?
  8. So you cite a backup of, a catcher with no alternative and messes that don't have a selected players locked in as the comps? I can't take that seriously.
  9. You acknowledge no difference between keeping up a struggling player and not recalling one?
  10. I think he has been a little reckless in his play and it cost him. I think all players should have to earn their spots, at least until they have established some track record.
  11. I would disagree with Seth very strongly on this point. He's certainly entitled like all of us to his own speculation.
  12. I know you are responding to posts, but Hunter has nothing to do with Buxton not coming up yet.
  13. Good. He shouldn't come up that quick. My take for why they optioned him was to motivate him to earn his way back. He's a great prospect but certainly hasn't proven anything at the big league level. People complain about how the Twins coddle players and on the other hand they want Buxton to get called up right away or at the very least get paid like a big leaguer while in the minors. You want up and the big league money/lifestyle? Stay healthy and dominate AAA for a couple weeks. One other thought on the option. If Buxton hurts himself again in Rochester while on rehab he would stay on the mlb roster and get paid/collect service time, possibly into next year if really serious. By optioning him the Twins do protect from another injury. Plus Buxton needs to get some live reps. So yes, no brainer and obvious.
  14. Because he's been out for 7ish weeks and needs to prove he can stay healthy and regain his timing. He's done nothing at the mlb level to be given the benefit of the doubt on either of these. The idea he's blocked is preposterous but the fact that he should be put in a position to be successful isn't. Let him have some success and then bring him up. If he stays healthy he'll be back soon.
  15. Not saying they haven't earned it, but people are really in a bad place with the front office when they are killing them for no brainer obvious moves like playing Buxton in AAA for a couple of weeks before bringing him back up.
  16. Sounds accurate. I will admit I went to the Espn active roster, counted how many players were 24 and under and reported my findings. I was intrigued by the critique the Twins had some shortage of young guys so wanted to do a quick count of teams to see how they compared. A much more detailed analysis is probably called for.
  17. I was counting under 26 for next year (in response to initial point), not this year, which is where the leaving group you cited comes in and the total numbers come from, and also reference to 40 man rosters later in the thread. But yes, I would say the Twins are slightly behind, but in the ballpark on this measure, at least relative to these two teams. Overall, I'm not especially concerned about the young talent on the Twins or near the mlb roster, the Twins are representative. What is killing the team is the veterans. Twins have over $55 mil committed in 15 and 16 just to Mauer, Hughes, Santana and Nolasco. That's not ideal. Might also explain some of the hesitancy to take on Tulo.
  18. Twins are getting acceptable results from their young guys this year. Player development can always be better, but doesn't strike me as a huge issue. The issue, relative to these three teams, is that the Cubs and especially the Astros are getting significantly better results from the more veteran guys, and a lot of this is from guys acquired from outside the organization. This is clearly where the Twins have failed.
  19. Twins have 7 additional guys on the 40 man not on the mlb squad at the moment that will be under 26 next year (though 1-2 might not survive), so again, relatively comparable. And that also doesn't count Berrios. Why would you bring this up and ignore the Twins?
  20. I agreed with this as well. I thought the timing of the need combined with fact only a a couple starts were needed and the fact he was being fed into the Toronto crucible made the decision to bring up Duffey more prudent. Not sure I would agree going forward if it is an extended look. Probably time to bring up Berrios.

    Abortion

The flip side is saying that isn't murder doesn't make it so either. Even taking into account your further explanation. This is why, even leaving aside the sexual revolution aspect, a certain percentage of pro-life people will never compromise. But doesn't mean that there aren't enough people that aren't willing to compromise for a clear decrease in abortion.
