  1. I don't really blame them for not fully committing to a rebuild. They probably suspect that they need to rebuild for a year or two, and especially reload the pitching staff. But there is also enough young talent (especially on the everyday side) that could pop at any moment, so there is some wisdom in at least keeping that door cracked. Might as well try to win in the immediate.
  2. Stop opening google doc invitations.
  3. We'll find out soon enough. I don't think there is a clear answer.
  4. Somewhat interestingly, exit velocity analysis will show that the best way to get hits is really hard or exceptionally soft (slow rollers, bloops, etc). The medium hits are converted to outs at the highest rate. So Mauer's exit velocity consistency, combined with a spray chart that can shifted against effectively, have conspired to make him really efficient at hitting into outs.
  5. I don't think anyone would say Berrios has no command. The second point is true, but not especially meaningful. And the correct answer is 30 teams would make that trade. The front office wants Berrios good for the long haul. The may be wrong in how they are developing him, but there is certainly an argument to be made for sacrificing some starts in the immediate to allow for more complete development. This doesn't mean the Twins value Tepesch as an asset more than Berrios.
  6. But to obfuscate what in this case? Who is being placated by saying Berrios is staying down? What advantage is gained? I won't argue that it isn't done, but usually it is for a purpose beyond just because they can.
  7. They don't need a starter until next Saturday, but it is 9 days, not 10. So miscounted.
  8. Sure, but usually it serves a purpose.
  9. Sure. But I give speculation from online posters a little less weight than direct words from the organization. Berrios now would be a stunning reversal. If I had to predict the next start is from Gibson.
  10. I'm on board with this, but it would be a pretty stunning reversal from the front office.
  11. Starting with Molitor and the front office.
  12. The whole staff is bonkers. There isn't even a clear reliever to call up.
  13. Gibson optioned. The long nightmare is over.
  14. He needed a better defense behind him. Probably would have held them scoreless.
  15. Plus they have already shifted some key roles, let some people go, hired some other scouts/coaches and hired a boatload of lower level people. This is not the same regime by any stretch.
  16. To be fair, the calling for a Gibson extension probably had a lot to do with the alternatives.
  17. Acquiring a #3 in a trade is a little harder than you suggested. Those kind of talents don't usually fly around in the offseason.
  18. What's interesting to me is not addressing pitching significantly in the offseason and still not calling up Berrios when he is (seemingly) pitching well in AAA and there is a clear need in the majors seem to be contradictory actions. I understand doing little in the offseason if you want to use the season to evaluate organizational talent. But rolling with a retread for a long term opening doesn't make much sense.
  19. It's not going to happen, but it would be interesting to hear the exact reasoning of keeping him down. The little I have gleaned is command and a desire for him to dominate/gain confidence. I would want a little more.
  20. Twins back in first place in the Central!
  21. So fun. Please, please, please get that k rate down, everything else will be golden.
  22. Oh come on, you want to risk another high draft choice by winning?
  23. The only grace I would give is that it is a new front office with a new set of ideas and presumably a new plan of development. In some ways the innings prior to this year might not matter a whole lot.
  24. I imagine we both agree that Berrios should be making his next start in the bigs too. I'm admittedly playing a little front ofdice advocate here even though I don't agree with the decision. I do find the thought process of the new front office worthy of investigation.
  25. He was probably right about Tepesch over Tonkin and Haley.
