  1. But I think they are now boxed into a position where they have to call him up even if they don't want to do so quite yet. There are no other options.
  2. I'm naive enough to more or less believe what they say publicly. They want this call up to be the last one. The thing he needs to tighten up is his command. Both statements are very reasonable.
  3. He is very likely one of the 5 best starters on the team, I don't think even the front office would disagree. That's not the primary concern or reasoning behind the decision.
  4. Though thinking about it, maybe Pressly is the one who goes down when Berrios is recalled.
  5. I imagine they would if they had an obvious replacement.
  6. You might not be alone, but you are crazy. A first round exit is much preferable to the atrocity we've watched the last 6 years. However, 4-5 first round exits in a row...
  7. I'm suggesting that Santiago and Kintzler, the two pending free agents with any trade value, won't bring back much. It would be something, but more a depth guy than any sort of impact guy. I'm wondering if that return is worth more to the franchise than keeping the two of them and finishing the season strong, especially if they are fringe contenders at the deadline. If the Twins fall off significantly (which is certainly possible), then they should trade everything that makes sense. But I would be more hesitant if they are playing decent ball.
  8. I'm not expecting greatness this year. But realistically the best trade candidates are Santiago and Kintzler. Neither of those guys are going to net the Twins all that much at the deadline. If the team is hovering around .500, I'm not sure it is worth it to move them when a strong finish to the season could be more valuable to the franchise long term. Of course, if they really start to falter, Dozier and Santana could be on the table too, then it would potentially be worth it to gut the whole thing as much as possible.
  9. You have to start somewhere. Why not this season? The pitching is no good, and they'll have some ugly games when the bullpen gets smoked, but the lineup is good enough to remain respectable all year. And it might even get better as the year goes along.
  10. The Twins and Yankees are in quite different positions. The Yankees have had 20something years straight above .500 but had grown stale. Another year of close competition without a deep playoff run would do nothing for them. Made sense to turn over an aging roster. The Twins have been brutal for 7 years, selling off when they are borderline competitive for bit pieces would not be received well. If they drop off significantly that's a different story.
  11. Harvey's k rate has also dropped to just above 5, worse than Phil Hughes. And he doesn't have the low walk rate to compensate. He's probably been unlucky on his hr rate, but he also has a low babip allowed. He's probably just not all that recovered from TJ and TOS surgeries. Don't think he makes it through the year healthy. I'd absolutely consider a flyer for next year though.
  12. This I could have gotten behind. I am a little surprised they don't use Duffey more like this But man, I'm not going to think much about using Belisle over Kintzler (I know you didn't say this). There just isn't much there with Pressly in the tank.
  13. Much more likely in the offseason. Teams don't really have a surplus of mlb pitching at this stage.
  14. If they had signed legitimate relievers from the outset, the flux of the 5th-7(8)th guys in the pen would have been much less of a deal. Heck, they might even be more willing to rush a guy from AA and hide him for a month or two.
  15. I won't ding them for their AAA depth signings, but the poor mlb relief pieces they added this offseason is easily their biggest mistake. Really no reason not to aim higher, both for more wins now and potentially better value added if flipped.
  16. I don't necessarily want McKay, but a #3 isn't his ceiling. He could certainly be better. There isn't a surefire ace in the draft, and there isn't an obvious bat to take instead. Greene has the highest upside, but there are obvious risks.
  17. What was wrong with yesterday? He had his second best reliever out there to start the 9th. Molitor isn't the best, but he isn't exactly working with top shelf talent in the pen. Only so much he can do.
  18. This is the route I think I prefer. Wright or McKay #1, followed by at least one upside hs arm at 35/37.
  19. Turns out nominating a run of the mill center leftist with minimal baggage keeps the establishment right from voting with the crazy populist. Or at least should.
  20. Single payer of some sort is coming. Just going to be a lot of madness and unnecessary suffering on the way.
  21. Once you get past the top handful it really, truly is a crapshoot. I don't buy a top 30 international list. Being in on a top 3 guy is a good thing though. Or they're saving their money for Otani...
  22. The should fire the person who oversaw the franchise while it developed such a poor farm system.
  23. Belisle is a fine complaint, but those last 2 were minor league depth signings thrust into the majors. They aren't signing better free agents for that role.
  24. This is nonsense. Pay money and promise them a role, they can sign a better player than Belisle and Breslow (though Breslow was an acceptable minor league deal). Guys they should have pursued went to teams like the Rockies, As, Reds. Those teams weren't exactly World Series contenders last year.
  25. They may be the wave of the future, but they aren't ready yet. Perhaps soon.
